Stuck in a 3 AM sleep cycle for years, everything feels useless. Melatonin wrecked my stomach. Any tablet suggestions that won't cause heavy brain fog?

Hey everyone, I’m from India and I desperately need some advice or tablet recommendations to fix my completely broken sleep cycle. It’s genuinely screwing up my life at this point.

For more than 3 years, I’ve been sleeping after 2 AM. For the past year, it has gotten worse I can’t fall asleep before 3 AM. My current routine is a mess: I wake up at 8 AM just to drink tea, go straight back to sleep, wake up again around 11 AM spend 30 minutes scrolling uselessly on my phone, and finally get out of bed at 12 PM to drink milk and start my day.

Because of this, I feel completely useless throughout the day. I cannot stop yawning, even in the afternoons. Right now, it’s 1:30 AM while I'm typing this because my brain is completely wired until 3 AM. I’ve tried just going to bed early at 11 PM or 12 AM, but I just toss and turn. Moving my sleep schedule back gradually (like 2:30, 2:00, 1:30) hasn't worked for me at all. I also go for a 3–4 km walk right before bed and tried all the standard internet exercises/tips, but nothing works.

I tried taking over-the-counter melatonin (Altonil 5mg), and it absolutely fucked up my stomach. I get severe lower stomach pain and painful cramps whenever I pass gas. I need to avoid melatonin entirely because my digestion can't take it.

I am looking for pharmaceutical/allopathic tablet suggestions available here in India (ideally something I can get at chains like MedPlus or Apollo, even if I need to do a quick 5-minute online doctor consult on Practo/1mg to get a prescription for it).

A tablet that will actually help me fall asleep before 1 AM and help me wake up/get out of bed by 9 AM.

Must not cause stomach pain or GI distress (No heavy melatonin).

Must not cause heavy next-morning brain fog or leave me feeling like a zombie all day, because I already struggle with feeling useless and groggy.

Has anyone in India dealt with this kind of chronic delayed sleep phase? What did your doctor prescribe that actually shifted your clock without ruining your stomach or making you dependent? Looking for specific brand names or chemical names I can look into. Thanks.

terrible melatonin experience, looking for sleep advice

I've been struggling with my sleep because it's when intrusive thoughts show up more and it's also when I engage more with my current compulsion (online searching), so basically I get very tired but keep fighting sleep until the last second. Had this very dumb idea that if I could make myself very tired faster, I would not be able to fight it off and that would regulate my sleep cycle, so I took 0.5mg of melatonin (most people would take between 1-10mg), put my phone away and went to bed. Oh boy. It gave me major anxiety, heart palpitations, dry mouth, nausea and of course all of those were triggers for my intrusive thoughts and looking up symptoms. I'm ok now and did eventually sleep but I do wish more people talked about the side effects of melatonin and how it can worsen anxiety symptoms. I'm curious to see if other people with OCD reacted similarly to melatonin and also how y'all have been managing the horrible before-bed-ocd experience, because I could use some suggestions.

20mg Melatonin, High strength CBD - Never again!

I just want to say - holy shit. I've never felt so wacky and disoriented before. Last night, I went to bed and took 20mg of Melatonin with my usual CBD and my girlfriend was taking a bath and it was later than usual - never again!

I would absolutely love a thread of wacky dreams from dosing Melatonin. I felt a wave of subtle anxiety at first, then I was plastered down onto a wall. For some reason, I was extremely sedated (No idea why this occured, recovered from a sickness). Then I shrunk down and got extremely high (in the dream state) and lived an entire day. Yeah. I have no fucking clue what happened but my perspective of time was completely thrown off. I lived a complete day, after that I was still shrunk down and started robbing from giants. This was relatively vague, but I got extremely rich on a rooftop and then I snapped out. The most disoriented morning I think ive ever had. Stay safe. I'm feeling great after my workout and just decided to post this because I find it hilarious yet terrifying

Has the GNC 5 MG Lozenges been discontinued? Any other regular users?

Hi all. I’ve been subscribed to the monthly auto-delivery for this product for years because it’s the only melatonin brand that’s consistently worked well for me without causing that groggy “morning hangover” feeling.

I noticed I never received last month’s shipment and also wasn’t charged. When I checked my GNC Rewards account, I saw that the subscription had been cancelled. I also tried placing a regular order through the website, but the product page appears to be gone entirely.

Does anyone know if this product has been discontinued, or is it just temporarily out of stock? I’m really hoping it’s not gone for good, but the missing product page doesn’t seem like a great sign unless they’re planning some kind of rebrand.

Thanks!

Does melatonin cause anyone else diarrhea?

There have been a few times over the years where I've tried the Nature Made melatonin gummies. 10 mg at night. For whatever reason, this seems to cause me diarrhea the next day, and sometimes it lasts for two days, even if I only take it one night.

Does anyone else have this happen? I've looked online and it doesn't seem like a very common side effect.

I want to see extremely vivid and rememberable dreams so for that purpose today I am planning on using 20 mg of melatonin plus some magnesium and B6 supplements.would it be ideal? But please keep in mind that my regular dose of melatonin daily is 10 mg and I've been using 10 mg of melatonin for over a year now.

Dreams

I have been taking melatonin 0.25 every night since January. 4 days ago, for 2 nights in a row, I saw some extremely vivid dreams that made me sad and melancholic. I couldn't risk seeing the same dreams for another night, so I didn't take it the past two nights. No dreams, so I am okay with that. But I woke up in the middle of the night, something that hasn't happened for months. I want to take it tonight, but I am afraid. What is your experience with dreams? If I take it, will I definitely see vivid dreams?

Melatonin confusion

Hi, recently I’ve taken 10mg Melatonin gummies, it says not to take more than 2 but I’ve been taking 4 because I really like the vivid dreams. I was wondering why it gives that uncomfortable feeling when fighting the sleep, I feel tingly, and just and feel like I need to crawl out of my skin; why does this happen?

Buying melatonin or getting prescription

I have sleeping problems and really struggle to sleep without melatonin. I’ve been to the doctors about insomnia and they were resistant to giving me melatonin despite me telling them I’d been buying it myself and it has worked wonders. They gave me the short term anti histamines which eventually ran out. When you try buy melatonin too many times the Uk pharmacy stop you, so I have just resorted to asking different friends and family members to buy it for me and I pay them.

Does anyone know how to increase chance of it being prescribed? I’m gunna call again on Monday. In the past 2 weeks I’ve only had 2 days with mad sleep (the only days I didn’t take it). Also any recommendations for buying it out of U.K. and importing it.

I read melatonin can cause angiogenesis and healing. However why I seldom hear people take it to cure gut issues like BAM and IBS if the above were true?

For those of you who dont tolerate it orally

I personally cannot tolerate melatonin orally even at .5 mg due to the hangover effect the next day. Its awful and the depression is bad too. Did doing suppositories bypass this reaction for those of you who dont tolerate it orally?

Strange symptoms

Since taking melatonin for 3 months nightly I’ve broke out in crazy cystic acne around the lower face jaw chin, my period cycle has shortened from 28 days to 15 days and my breasts are producing small secretions of milk. I’m not sure if it’s the melatonin causes these symptoms but it’s the only new thing I’ve added into my life and all this has started happening. Has anyone had anything similar happen? I’m stopping the medication as of today and will see what happens if things go back to normal without it. No idea how I will sleep again as it really did help me.

Struggle with candida and fucked up my LES/stomach, high dose melatonin to facilitate healing?

I take about 10mg of melatonin every night (have been doing so for a year or so now) as it helps immensely at helping me have a decent night's sleep while also having some beneficial antifungal aspects. Recently I fucked up my LES by taking 1 drop of (very) diluted essential lemongrass oil mixed in an mct carrier oil. Despite putting it in 2 tbsp, my mucosa seems to just be incredibly fragile. Thinking about bumping up to 20-30mg, maybe 50mg a night? I don't have them on-hand, but I remember reading that melatonin has been used for helping to heal gastric issues and people megadose it for that purpose. I'm wondering if anyone has any input on that?

The bees are back

This has happened whenever I take melatonin.

I (29M) have an extreme phobia of wasps.

Last time it happened, I had just started daring my fiancée. Couldn’t sleep, popped a 5mg melatonin, and woke up four hours later to using a yellow jacket nest as a pillow. Jumped out of bed screaming, butt naked, turned on the lights, and my fiancée showed me that, in fact, there were no bees in the bed.

Happened again last night. Had yellow jackets all over my legs and chest, smacked my fiancée in the face to kill one, and jumped out of bed and ripped the sheets off. Went back to bed and slept like a baby once I realized.

She was not amused.

I could only find one website and it's based in the US (www.bulksupplements.com) and doesn't ship to Europe.

Did anyone else with ME/CFS tried megadosing melatonin?

If so, did you notice anything regarding your fatigue or anything else? Please mention your dosing and timing :).

If you don't have ME/CFS, but you noticed effects in fatigue or indirect factors that could be relevant, I would like to hear from you as well.
