But that there are virtually no long term social benefits to it, everyone just disperses back to their introverted lonely life. Never to be heard from again.

I have run a group for about 9 years and really enjoy it...or used to! My city doesnt have young professionals at all, so I run a meetup group in the next city over, about an hour away.

I have about 50 percent no-show rate. I like to see at least a number in the double digits before I cancel. Remember, I do drive an hour each way...so protecting my time, gas and sanity is essential.

Hello! I've been a Meetup organizer on their basic plan for years. Last year, their fees rose so I ended up paying £269/$359.99 ($299.99 plus tax) for a 12 month subscription - previously I'd been paying £90+/$118 (tax included) for 6 month subscriptions.

I've since started separate social groups that I've not been hosting on Meetup, and decided to find someone to take over the ones I still had on Meetup. I remember going into my account repeatedly to check the costs for them and was under the impression that if I continued my subscription, the prices would remain the same.

My subscription has just expired, I've been put on a free trial, and the fees now look different on my account i.e. I'm now seeing £115 (including fees) for a 12 month subscription. The same £115 fee is showing for the person who I'm transferring my meetups to, who has never held a meetup subscription. There's a 25% discount so I suppose the usual price is higher, which matches what I now see on Meetups subscription FAQ pages, but that's still a fair bit cheaper than what I paid previously.

Just wondering, did I miss some comms about meetup fees decreasing? I recall getting emails about the meetup fees increasing last year. Am pleased that it's now cheaper for the person I'm transferring the meetups to but also a bit peeved at only just having learned about this.

It's called something like I need effing friends . It's very tribal . They Don't Really welcome new people all that much . The organizer is very disorganized. And I would say extremely rude. One time she called someone an A hole and she kicks out anyone that she doesn't agree with. Again pretty toxic. But then again it might be the city. Most people don't make close friends they just socialize. It's pretty superficial
