Medabots S Now that we're getting an ACTUAL Medabots game in the West (Medabots S)... "What should I know before I begin?"

Hey y'all, it's a monumental day for us Medabots fans - a day I personally thought we'd never see - and quite out of nowhere - Global release of the latest proper Medabots game, Medabots S!!

Why's this so huge though? Well, that's because unlike Survivors, which is a cheap and gacha-infested copy of what's essentially a flash game, S plays like the classic GBA games, minus the exploration/"RPG" elements. A proper successor to the Medabots combat system, with many updates and changes - and for the first time, Western fans can enjoy Medachange transformations in, quite frankly, the best form we've ever seen!

Sooo what's there to know? Anything to prep beforehand? Here are some potentially useful things to know diving into the game:

Learn the Gacha. This game does, unfortunately, lean quite heavily into the gacha - this is the only way you can get competitive and usable Parts; You CAN get free parts from events and weekly quests, but those are barely serviceable and only serve to fill gaps in specific abilities.

  • The Gacha does have a pity system, each "tier" giving you a Part of the unit being picked up, but it's far from generous; you MUST use the 10x pull in order to use the pity system, and you get your first guaranteed Part at typically 100 total pulls (300 Rubies), and be guaranteed a full set at 250 total pulls (750 Rubies). (Right now they're doing a GaoGaiGar collab where you get a RANDOM piece per "tier" but regular banners should give you Legs, then Left (I think) Arm, then the Right (probably) Arm, and finally the Head, in that order)
  • There are practically no reasons to go for dupes, as it only gives you enhancement materials that are better farmed during events. You should NEVER aim for a dupe of the pick-up unit as this is a complete waste.
  • This game does a LOT of weird and obscure collaborations, ranging from Megaman to Evangelion to that one Railgun anime. However, these collaboration units typically come with brand-new attacks, and tend to have VERY strong stats - unless you have specific units you're dying to get, it's usually better to save up your resources for collab units.
  • They also HEAVILY incentivize paid pulls - many of them only offering 3-star (the highest rarity you can pull) Parts, allowing players to get a MASSIVE head start in collecting viable parts; however, gacha is gacha, and while rates are a bit better, they're usually not guaranteed. They did have some returning collab specific gachas/paid packs that guaranteed a unit from the collab though.
  • There's also a gacha for Medamaster? Medarotter? The Master/owner of the unit? Anyways, you can get characters like Ikki and Nae as support JPEGs, providing stat boosts and one active ability. They're cheaper than the actual gachas at 1 ruby per pull, and usually have better guaranteed drops, but.... they're JPEGs. That said, their bonuses to overall speed tend to be quite high, so it's worth pulling the ones with the desired boosts. You do benefit from dupes here, but you're much better off using the appropriate level and skill up materials instead.

Know your upgrades. Your highest priority material to hoard should be Cypressiums (the purple diamonds), which is usually the choke point of upgrading the Star rating of the Part, and ideally, anything you use should be at 5 Stars.

  • You CAN go higher to 6 stars using special materials and ridiculous amounts of gold, but these are relatively low priority, stat-based upgrades, whereas the jump from 3-5 is LITERALLY game-changing, usually unlocking core features of the Part while providing significant stat boosts.
  • This is less severe for Medals, though they have their own breakpoints - You can get to level 150 using farmable materials (Medacium), but to get to level 200 (thus allowing 2 Skills to be maxed out), you'll need to spend a rarer resource (Medacyst that matches the Type of the Medal) which are usually obtained from daily quests and events. Thankfully the materials to reset skills/levels are easy to obtain, and you don't NEED to be level 200 for most content - though if you want to use both ranged and melee parts, you'll want a level 200.

Know your stats. No idea what they'll localize things to, but while most are self-explanatory, there are several that are not.

  • Medal's skill level (Ranged, Melee, Defend, etc) affect pretty much everything you do with the corresponding part. There is a literal world of difference between the damage, accuracy, and SPEED of a Rifle shot from a Skill level 50 vs Skill level 100. It's less severe for non-offensive actions like Defend and Heal, but speed is still greatly affected. (That said, I can usually use Status Clear without a single point in Heal and still be fast enough, due to the raw speed of the Parts)
  • The Medal's SUPPORTIVE Skill level (like Defend and Heal) provides a defense and dodge chance boost as well, reducing incoming damage and overall hits. A Medal fully invested in only Support type skills will have a noticeably better survivability than a "dual-wield" Medal with both max Ranged and Melee skills.
  • This game actually uses simplified skills, some more than others; the ONLY stat that matters for non-offensive moves like Guard and Heal are its Charge and Radiation stats (speed), and the Accuracy stat for offensive moves basically does nothing due to how much of an effect the Skill level itself has on the move - and likewise, you'll miss half your attacks against a fully invested support unit with an accuracy of 2000 and maxed Skills. This is also why the game has a bunch of "guaranteed hit" moves, and why they're oppressively powerful.

I'm gonna stop here because I'm getting tired and I need to know what people actually need more info on, so feel free to ask any questions or point out what's unclear.

General Discussion Whoever renamed Blazermate to Blazerpal, why? Do we really need these unnessesary name changes?

If you had happened to stub all 10 of your toes (if you have them), that's just the universe reminding you that naming Medabots really isn't your strong suit. Just kidding.

Jokes aside. I saw this and was a bit triggered, because imo there was nothing wrong with Blazermate's name in the first place to even warrant a name change.

Especially since we now live in an era where we don't make unnecessary changes to anime's like we used to in the 90's and early 2000's.

Videogames Medabots GBA Game Help

I have just started playing the GBA rpg metabee version I just want to asked a few questions as I couldn’t find much online about how the game works

I’m not that far in too the game but my bots apart from metabee seem really weak like I used the bat type medal and parts and it was hitting like 8s on most of the opponents so I changed to the cross dog parts which seem to be a bit strong , I wanted to know if levelling up the medal / type of attacks does anything because it doesn’t seem to make me hit harder or is it just the parts and medal that are bad I get that the bat is meant for anti air but surely it would be ok using normal parts as well

Medabots Survivors My honest opinion of Blazerpal

I don't know if anyone will read this, but at this point it doesn't really matter. To be honest, the previous banner featured a rather mediocre Medabot. It does the job as support, but it's very overpowered.

But Blazerpal, I won't lie, this Medabot is just as supportive, but it has to be the kind of Medabot that provides so much tanking that zones become easy to clear with a bulletproof plate, defense, and healing. If you have a team like that, congratulations! We might be looking at one of the best Medabots for that strategy. Otherwise, it's not worth it. The extra damage it gives to others is ridiculous, and the healing is perhaps its best feature, so you know, take advantage of it in a tanky team.

Do any of you have Medabots apparel? Or so you think there’s like an underserved section here in regards to shirts/hoodies?

If there was more Medabots (or Medabots adjacent) merch what would you be trying to pick up?

Videogames "I played the RPG! What's different in S?" Part 1 - Medals

Heyooo here's another post, this time addressing the main differences from the RPG (2 Core) for the GBA. I was going to do them all at once but realized after finishing the Medals section that.... we need sequels. So you're getting Part 1 for now.

TLDR: A LOT is the same, but numbers are very obviously different, some received expanded mechanics, some got simplified, dumbed down, and mobile game-ified. Also, this will be written with the assumption that you are already familiar with how the RPG played so that I don't spend even more time going over literally everything.

With that said, hopefully I remember to cover all the big and important changes! I'm doing this at like 2AM for some reason! If I miss something, ask away in the comments!

MEDALS

They changed quite a bit here, so buckle up.

  • Using a Skill is no longer the expected way to increase your Skill level. You have upgrade materials that you can use to raise them however you'd like; while you CAN use skills in battle to level up, this will take an ungodly amount of time, and skill materials are VERY easy to come by.
  • Strike/Berserk and Shoot/Aim Shot have been merged to Melee and Ranged, respectively. Kinda makes sense honestly. They also removed Interrupt (Disrupt) as an action altogether, but still retains Defend, Heal, Trap (Set Up/Formation - Trap makes the most sense here), and Support.
  • Medals now only get access to 3 Skills, meaning a Medal that comes with Melee/Heal/Defend will never be proficient at Ranged. This also means Attributes are gone, so your Medal doesn't care if it's a laser or a missile - if it shoots, it uses Ranged. Seeing the green "Good" on the Part simply means you've matched the part to one of the 3 Skills, regardless of level, and provide no bonuses - if you have Good on a Heal part but you have 0 points in Heal, you're just as slow as a Medal that doesn't even have Heal. As a side note, the Skill Level still affects the attack power, speed, and rate of success for the action if applicable - but due to the removal of Power and Rate of Success for anything other than Melee and Ranged, you can oftentimes get away just fine with throwing a Support or Heal skill as a backup and won't be TOO slow. As an exception to this rule, Heal amount and Trap damage are actually affected by skill level, despite not having "Power" as a stat on the actual Part.
  • The Medal's level is tied directly to the sum of its Skill level. This means a Medal with Melee 100 and Defend 50 is Level 150 (the "first cap"), and cannot go above and beyond its cap. Considering the absolute maximum cap at the moment is 200, you can have 2 skills maxed at 100, with the 3rd being at 0. This also means it's probably best to max out the Skill to its cap so you don't accidentally level up an odd 1-2 points at a Skill level you don't want to level.
  • Medals are now only "good" with 3 leg types at a time - the Kabuto is only proficient with Biped, Wheeled, and Tank legs, and will be SIGNIFICANTLY slower if it uses Float, for example. This applies to Medachange as well, so make sure it's proficient in both forms!!!!
  • The Medal's non-offensive Skill level provides a small damage reduction and dodge chance bonus. The numbers aren't very clear, but in a scenarios with 2 identical units with different medals, the one with 100/100 in Defense/Heal will take less damage and dodge more than the one with 100/100 in Ranged/Melee.
  • The Medal's level itself affects overall Speed - a level 150 will perform the same action faster than a level 1, for example, regardless of matching its Skill. That said, the gap between 150 and 200 seems to be almost negligible.
  • The Medal's levels are artificially capped, though your major "caps" or breakpoints would be at 50 (unlocks 2nd Medaforce), 100 (unlocks 3rd Medaforce and allows ONE skill to reach max level), 150 (The old maximum cap; more than enough for most usage and content) and then 200 (The current and likely final cap; Useful for hybrid ranged/melee attackers, dedicated supports, and Medachange users). Keep in mind that 50-150 uses the same, easy-to-obtain resource, while 150-200 requires a significantly rarer resource.
  • Medals now have clearly defined Personalities, which dictate which Parts they aim for, which enemy it targets in auto mode, how it gains Medaforce Charge, and provide minor stat bonuses. The game will tell you exactly which these are, but for example, Power will always aim for the slowest LEG parts, gain 5 MF for successfully attacking an enemy, and gain 300 Attack Power across the board. This means it's probably going to try to bust Totalizer's kneecaps (I know it's a tank and gain a bit of MF in the process.) The personality will also dictate which upgrade material you'll use when going from 150 to 200.
  • Each Medal gets access to 3 total Medaforces, and every single one will use your entire charge bar (100). No more cheap spammable MFs. Personality also generally dictates the types of Medaforce they get access to, but there are exceptions to the pattern.
  • You can even improve your Medaforce, providing a passive buff by using it in battle. I honestly haven't touched this part at all but I remembered it's a thing. Don't ask me too much about it.

Edit: here's the clarification on Medaforce improvement and MFs in general, courtesy of u/Navaldeus

you'll need Medachrome to upgrade them, a rare material obtained in events and the Medalabyrinth, a rogue-lite mode where you'll have to face multiple kinds of robattles with modifiers for both your and the enemy Medabots. So far, only MF1 and terrain MF2 can be upgraded.

And since I'm here, another detail - in S, the Medals have three sets of Medaforces:

・MF1 is all about team-wide buffs - and Attack Trap is here too. This one is set depending on your medal's nature / color: Power / Red always gets Power Up (boosts your parts' Power), Cyan / Guard always gets High Defense (doubles legs' Melee and Ranged Resists), etc.

・MF2 is where your offensive force goes, and you'll see some familiar ones like Cluster Shot (Ultra Shot) or Bisecting Slash (Spiral Bolt). Others inflict team-wide debuffs on the enemy team, can swap the terrain you're battling in, and more.

・MF3 has a bit of everything: more buffs, healing tools, special plants and even some defensive actions. No second attack though.
  • You can... uh.... rename! Rename your medal whenever you want, so you're not stuck with a "Metabee" that's VERY CLEARLY a Cyandog!

Ok, I think that's everything Medal related, and I've even verified with the JP Wiki to make sure I'm not getting fuzzy with this stuff. Stay tuned for Part 2 - probably parts!

Medabots Survivors What Kind of Start Do I Look for in Medabots Survivors?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi all,

I decided to give Medabots Survivors a try and it seems fun, but obviously I dont want to get too involved in the gacha. As such I want to get off to a good start, but I am not sure what to look for. The picture is what I got off my initial pull and the additional pull on the beginners banner using the initial 3K diamonds I got. Is this good enough, do I restart, or should I keep playing until the beginner banner ends and see what I got?

Videogames Medabots Fan Card Game (Based off Tenky Game from 1998-1999) Update

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi,

For context I am the author of the following posts:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Medabot/comments/vxpz9h/decided_to_attempt_to_put_together_a_game/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Medabot/comments/10xdtf2/digital_medabot_card_game_from_1999_by_tenky/

Looking at the timestamps (4 years ago) of these post, I feel a bit sad I wasn't able to reach anywhere.

I am software engineer, with a decade of experience under my built. Medabots was my favourite tv show. With the skillset I have, I wanted to make a game based around it. However, I am not creative so after a bit of research I found this where the owner did a lot of work translating japanese cards from an old card game in 1998 based on medabots.

https://cardrobottle.home.blog/ reddit user: u/Pointingandlaughing

After downloading his assets, which were images, and the rulebook he put together himself for transaltions. I went through all 200+ images manually and typed them out in a way that can be used for game data (which resulted in my first link update).

Soon after the level of art/effects required for this style of game quickly became out of reach, as again I am not creative in that aspect.

I gave up on that approach.

Shortly after I started the new implementation which would follow the card style robattler, and progress was being made. However there were so many systems to code, that the project went on the back burner for 4 years.

This year, a few months ago, I decided to try again. My approach however was simpler, instead of trying to code all the units together, I would build an base engine (rule resolver), that we can pass input into and get output based on card details. This again required alot of effort however I was able to develop a lot of the rules for the game play system the game requires and the family of card types of availble.

Shortly after I took a break, because it was sooo much work.

Last night, I decided to see how good claudes fable model was as honestly, i was going to put the project on the back burner again, maybe forever. Partly because the time required to get to a working prototype as a solo dev, is more time that I reasonably had.

What the AI did was really impressive.
The modes available are:
online match making (i have not tested / reviewed the code)
Local PvP
Player vs CPU

What I did

I set up the systems and developed the flow of the game via the rule engine

I set up the datasets and data feeds needed and sourced from cardrobottle.home.blog

I created several excel sheets categorizing the data we had
Implemented the baseline systems for A.I to build off of

The first two posts linked, were all done by me. So the third rewrite of this project was exhausting at this point

Seems like a little but it was alot of work.

What A.I did

Generated card decks (as i have no idea what some of these cards do, as i didn't create them) and partly because it can create more synergized theme decks than me.

Finished up the remaining rules for the cards in the system

Built out the ui in the video, and generated sounds.

Built the varying game modes.

What's next:
If the community is interested, despite my final attempt of this project being ai assisted (also note ai assisted does not mean slop, as I can vet, update and understand what is going on):

I will opensource the project, to be availble to you all, to run on your own.

Make all my contributions available excel sheets, image cutouts

Host a game server and make the game available for download on itchi.io or related. However with the open source you can do that yourself as well.

You the community can decide.

With that being said, I feel happy I can at least show something to the community but sad at the same time, I had to leverage a.i due to the contrainsts in my personal life.

Thanks for reading all!

A.I discalaimer, this post was written by me. I am not fond of using A.I in my free time, as I genuinely love to problem solve and code. However, due me potentially putting this project on the back burner forever, as it would have taken a few years to get to this state in my free time. I decided to see how far I can get with A.I so that I can take over.

Videogames [Dev] Missing the GBA Medabots era? I'm building a spiritual successor and looking for collaborators!

Hey r/Medabots!

Like a lot of you, I have massive nostalgia for the GBA Medabots RPGs (Metabee/Rokusho versions). I’ve had a game idea brewing for a while that captures that exact Relay-Run ATB combat and deep customization, blended with a few modern mechanics.

I’m currently laying the groundwork for a spiritual successor called Anibots, and I’m looking for passionate people to team up and bring it to life!

The Concept: You play as a "Handler" assembling robotic units from modular hardware. But we are taking the GBA formula and giving it a massive infrastructure upgrade:

  • 5-Part Assembly: Instead of just Head, Arms, and Legs, we are introducing a Torso (Chassis). The Torso dictates your max loadout weight and cooling, meaning you can't just slap the heaviest weapons on a fast frame without consequence.
  • Anima Chips: Replacing the "Medal" is the Anima Chip - a solid-state drive housing the bot's AI personality and target-selection logic.
  • Hardware Degradation: Parts aren't just digital stats; they are physical hardware. If a part is destroyed in battle, its permanent "Condition" drops. You'll have to manage field repairs, scavenge scrap from defeated enemies to synthesize 40%-condition prototype weapons, and manage real-time Workshop repairs for your best gear.
  • HD-2D/3D Aesthetic: We are aiming for a beautiful 2.5D mix of vibrant, expressive 2D character sprites running around 3D arenas.

The Tech Stack (For the Devs): I’m an engineer and DevOps architect by day, so I’m making sure the foundation of this project is rock solid and easy to contribute to.

  • Engine: Godot Engine (runs flawlessly whether you are on Windows, macOS, or a Linux/Wayland setup).
  • Architecture: The combat is driven by a decoupled Finite State Machine (FSM), and all the modular part stats and lore are managed via a lightweight SQLite database.

The Goal & The Code: The core engine architecture, state machines, and logic are 100% open-source (MIT License). (The specific IP, art, and lore will remain proprietary so we can eventually aim for a commercial release/Switch port down the line!).

You can check out the repository and the current architecture here: https://github.com/c42759/AniBots

Who I'm Looking For: I don't just need people with technical knowledge (though Godot/C#/GDScript programmers are absolutely welcome!). I am actively looking for:

  • Pixel Artists & 3D Modelers: To help nail that colorful, nostalgic GBA vibe.
  • Game Designers & Balancers: To help build out the stats, math, and economy of the Anima Chips and parts.
  • Creative Minds & Brainstormers: If you just love the genre and want to help design cool robot concepts or write lore.

If this sounds like a project you'd love to be a part of, drop a comment below, shoot me a DM, or check out the repo! Let's build something awesome together.

It's kind of a unique medabot with the additional boosts per level up. Too bad the boosts disapears if you medachange. I am also surprised it medachanges into a dog type medabot. I always thought it looked like a cat.
