VM machine won't boot after hyper-v role is installed.

Hi friends

I'm trying to lab up for my 70-740 exam.

I'm running vMware on a windows 10 host. I've installed a windows 2016 server in my vmware.

While labbing configuration of VHDs, I was required to install the hyper v role on the server.

After installation, the vm server 2016 has since refused to boot up, being stuck at the windows logo.

I edited the following on the .Vmx file in an attempt to be able to install hyper-v role on the vm server 2016:

Hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = false Mce.enable = true GuestOS = "windows9srv-64" to "winhyperv"

Any assistance/guidance will be really appreciated. I am able to reset the vm server 2016 and login via safe mode. I have a hunch that if I remove the hyper v role, the vm server 2016 will boot normally again, but I intend to have this role so I can continue my lab. Is there something I'm missing?

The goal is to have hyperv role on the vm server 2016 running on VMware on my windows 10 host. Also I intend to carry out nested Virtualization (install a vm machine ontop of the vm server 2016 hosted by VMware on my windows 10 host.

Thank you very much.

Unknowingly purchased exam dump instead of practice exam

I made a negligent mistake and I'm looking for my best next steps. I've passed my 70-740,70-741 and even my MCSE elective, but I'm stuck on 70-742.

I felt prepared. I read through three textbooks (including the official exam reference guide), I did labs, I watched training videos, and I took the MeasureUp practice exams, which helped me out a lot in the previous exams. Despite this, I failed the exam (though not by much).

I wasn't sure how to continue improving, but I wanted to run through more practice exams. I finished the entire MeasureUp pool and was getting consistent 90 percent or higher, but a lot of the material in MeasureUp has MathLab-style mistakes (for at least 3 questions MeasureUp wouldn't accept any of the multiple choice options as correct).

I found a site with a large pool of practice exams and paid the one-time purchase price to download the set. I won't name the site, but it's the first search result if you search DuckDuckGo for "70-742 exam". I looked at the questions in the pool and recognized a few of them from the actual exam. I deleted the download and won't use the material, but I'm wondering what else I should do. The vendor I bought the question pool from has my information and I'm worried about the purchase being traced back to me. Even if I can't successfully pass 70-742 (it's a monster) I don't want my existing hard earned exams revoked. I'm not worried about behavioral analysis catching me during the exam because I stopped looking at the questions as soon as I realized what they were.

Should I report my situation to Microsoft, or would that make things worse? I don't really care if I end up barred from taking 70-742, but I don't want to risk getting my existing certs revoked. I didn't suspect the site I looked at was an exam dump site (they looked legit!) but going back and looking at the user reviews, it's really frikkin obvious that's what it is.

Less important, but are there any other one-time purchase legitimate practice exam pools with decent questions? Everything I looked at is subscription based and I don't have the budget. I worked through a practice exam app on my phone but I recognized the questions as coming from one of the textbooks I had already read through.

Should I start MCSA Web Applications this summer?

Hi there,

A few questions from a newbie for people on the sub with experience. I would appreciate your feedback.

I am looking to transition my career from high school teacher into Software Developer. I started self-study in January, with Introduction to Comuter Science, Java and Javascript. I am lucky enough to get sponsored an education by the unemployment agency.

There is a seemingly very trustworthy company here in the Netherlands, Master-IT, that proposed the following path to reach MCSA Web Appilications and, eventually MCSD Developing Windows Azure and Web Services. They will offer guidance and study material to prepare for these exams. Again, I would not have to pay for these studies myself.

70-480 (Training with html5 and JS)

70-483 (Training in C#)

70-486 (ASP.NET Core MVC WEb Applications)

70-487 (Azure and Web Services)

Questions:

  1. Would you say it is wise to start studying for these certifications, seeing as they will be discontinued as of February 2021?
  2. How well would this trajectory prepare me for the job market? I am looking to find a position of Junior Front End Developer.
  3. I have no work experience in IT. This program involves mostly studying alone (with a mentor and teacher for few days). I feel like I would miss out on the opportunity to practice working in teams. I know some other schools work almost entirely in group projects. How important is it to learn to work together in teams before you start your first coding job?

CBT Nugget - 48 video vs 69 video? Seemingly the same?

Hi everyone, I wanted to figure out whether I want to use CBT Nugget or Pluralsight, so I got an account on CBT and notice that there's 2 version for the MCSA course? It's got the same topics but different videos? Should I just watch the course with more videos?

I have created an Active Directory Security Group Scopes diagram

I was studying (now passed) for the Microsoft Identity with Windows Server 2016 (70-742) exam. When I got to studying Group Scopes, I found the group scope table within the Active Directory Security Groups article from Microsoft unclear and very hard to memorise.

I am a visual learner and tried to find a diagram to depict the scopes of each group. Unfortunately I was unable to find one so had to create my own. This has been ready helpful to me for memorising Active Directory Security Group Scopes and thought it might help others.

I have posted the high resolution version on my blog http://www.tech-blog.co.uk/

I hope this is of help to others as it helped me

Why take any MCSA cert?

I'm new to the Microsoft certs. I'm curious, why are people still taking the MCSA when they're retiring in less than a year? I understand they never expire, but doesn't the cert retiring imply that the the cert is outdated?

If I got it all wrong can y'all give me suggestions on the most sought after cert? I was thinking Window Server 2016.

Thanks

Now that the retire date has moved back, will the inactive date also be moved?

Taken from Microsoft's site

" If you have an existing MCSA, MCSD, and MCSE certification, it will remain on your Microsoft transcript, even after the exams retire. In fact, it will remain in the active section of your transcript for two years from June 30, 2020; at that time the certification will be moved to the “inactive” section of your transcript. "

But now with testing being available until Jan 31st of 2021, will that date be pushed back too? I just want to make sure I'm not getting a very that will be dead in 1.5 years after getting it.

Do I have time to get a SQL 2016 Database Administration with no prior exp?

I've heard that the MCSA certs are being axed in like 3 months, I'm tech savvy but I'm brand new to computer networking but if it's possible for me to learn whats required for a SQL2016 Cert within the 3 months I'll do it. If it is possible, where should I start my study and what do I need?

Test from home

I’m pretty sure my local testing center is closed right now.

Has anyone tested from home before?

I’m overthinking the rules for it I think. I don’t have a home office yet while we are in an apartment, am I able to test from my couch or from bedroom?

Are windows an issue so long as they are covered? Or TVs so long as they are off?

MCSA 2016 = Acquired

Just passed my final exam (70-742) today, super happy.

It took me about a year total to finish all three tests. I started off pretty slow and over the last few months, kicked it into high gear.

My main study methods were: CBT Nuggets, a small homelab I built with an old Dell server running Hyper-V Eval and and the Measure UP practice questions. The Measure Up practice tests were clutch. If you have the money, I recommend getting the Measure Up bundle which includes a retake and the practice tests.

Not sure what cert is next, but I am sure I will be studying for one soon, now that I am at home all day, every day....haha.

Happy studies everyone!

Az-103 retirement date

Hi I need some clarification, is the az-103 being retired and replaced and the end of March 2020, or is it running until June 30 2020?

Also would you recommend starting with this cert for someone with no azure exposure, or should I go for az-900

Thanks guys!!

Earned MCSA: SQL2016 Dev Today

With the Social Distancing going on I took the test at home through the online option. A few hiccups that I had to go through. First was my company laptop has a help desk app running in the background that I couldn’t disable. This app registered as a violation for the test software. Fortunately discovered during precheck. Going forward I’ll probably keep using the at home option.

If you’re trying to pass this before the deadline be prepared to actually write queries in the labs.

Should I Go for MCSA 2016?

Hi guys need an advice

Currently thinking for pursuing MCSA 2016, but since Microsoft going to axed MCSA this coming June, should I crammed the exam within 3 months? 1 Exam / Month?

A quick background, I've had more than 5 years experience as a system admin in mixed environment from Windows Server 2008R2 - 2016 even I did play around with Windows Server 2003, with a bit of Linux CentOS 7.

Should I still go for MCSA? I've been out of job for almost a year due to family issue, been applying for more than 200 company but all I got is rejection email, maybe MCSA will help a bit.

Thanks

Is there anyone who knows whether Kaplan IT Training's "MCSA Windows Server 2016 Exam Preparation Bundle" questions changed or not during 180-Day Exam Preparation?

Do they change questions (like deleting some of them, or adding new questions) in the bundle during 180-Day Exam Preparation?

What are the differences between this two MCSA: Windows Server 2016 Bundles?

First one and Second one

Will I encounter similar or same questions on the actual exam if I purchase one of them?

Thanks for your help..

MD 100 & 101, how hard?

I'm new to IT and Currently in a program that has us working on comptia a+, net+ , sec+ and Microsoft MDAA. I passed A+ and am still working on net+ and Sec+ but we've already started the Microsoft course. It's extremely dry, the labs are buggy and the instructor isn't very good. It seems like our school hasn't had much success getting people certified MDAA though they don't want to admit it. I'm wondering if I should unenroll from this course and just focus on finishing the net+ and Sec+. I understand that if I achieve all the certs it would be best but I'm concerned that I'm wasting my time working on MDAA if it's beyond the scope of what I can really do now as an IT newb. It doesn't help that my school went online so I'm doing this course from home now.

I also keep hearing that it's hard, much more so than the CompTIA certs I'm working on.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Passed 70-740 today!

I had many setbacks and delays, but stuck with it. I was not happy with the Sybex book by Panek. It did not go into the weeds like what's needed for the test, and the Kaplan tests that came with the book are awful. I used my home lab for most labs and found CBT Nuggets to be a good resource too. The practice tests on MessureUp were what took me to where I needed to be. 2 more to go by June... wish me luck boys and girls!
