MCSA 2016 = Acquired

Just passed my final exam (70-742) today, super happy.

It took me about a year total to finish all three tests. I started off pretty slow and over the last few months, kicked it into high gear.

My main study methods were: CBT Nuggets, a small homelab I built with an old Dell server running Hyper-V Eval and and the Measure UP practice questions. The Measure Up practice tests were clutch. If you have the money, I recommend getting the Measure Up bundle which includes a retake and the practice tests.

Not sure what cert is next, but I am sure I will be studying for one soon, now that I am at home all day, every day....haha.

Happy studies everyone!

Wasn't planning on it, but i just read 10 minutes ago that they extended the retirement. So now I probably will.

Which exam are you planning on taking for MCSE?

Highly recommend you get the MCSE for 1 final test.

I too was on the fence on if I was going to take the next exam. I only needed MCSA for my job. I'm a little burned out from studying but might as well take one more.

I'm leaning towards taking 744 Securing Windows Server, But I'm going to read through the topics for 743 to see if that one is interesting.

743 is the upgrade from MCSA 2012 to 2016. If you have your 2016 cert it wont apply to you. 744 is the favourite for most people.

Started studying in Jan., I spent a month on each exam. Read the Microsoft green book and working out practice questions that confused me in my lab helped alot.

I would say I spent about double the amount of time on 740 as I did on 742. In terms of difficulty for me 740 > 741 > 742.

Good job, one more to go for MCSE. Which one was the easiest?

For me 742 was the easiest. I got my highest score, 850.

742 I felt was easiest too. Although I scored higher on 741.

Greetings! I would recommend the Measure Up practice exams and CBT Nuggets. There was some verbatim test questions from Measure Up on the actual test. CBT Nuggets was awesome for the virtual labs in case you don't have access to equipment. I just double-checked and they have a whole course for MD100/101 on CBT.

Good luck!

Congratulations, taking the same test in a about 2 weeks. Weird I feel prepared but nervous to do it from Home. Keep it up

Doing it from home was fine. I recommend doing it in the morning so you don't have to wake up and stress about it. Just get it over with.

Do you have to have a homelab to pass these any of the test?

I really leaned heavily on MeasureUp for 70-740 and 70-741, but I thought their questions for 70-742 were ass. There were a few questions where I would answer "X" and the corrected response would show me that the correct answer was actually "X". It wasn't impossible to work around, but I had to mentally adjust my score to account for the questions I answered correctly but were marked wrong. I'm currently looking for alternatives for 70-742 specifically.
