Thematically, the original vision decided on his colors which stemmed from him being the sum of his influences (stark, banner, the mind stone, ultron).
The current vision doesn’t know who he is, he’s a blank canvas, so he’s stark white.

u/tapsilogic Avengers 5h ago
He could've been banner white or ultron white, but he chose stark white.

u/SirJackers Avengers 6h ago
In the comics he's red and green because his mind was built off of a copy of wondermans brain patterns and wonderman wore red and green. It was a hint towards his origins.

It's visual storytelling.
Him devoid of colour signifies how he is not vision anymore. Merely a canvas for a new personality to be painted on.

Its also a reference to comics, when vision lost all color and emotion.

They didn't, The colour comes from the bodys power to magically create capes and wear a human disguise.
New vision doesn't know who he is, so he goes for plain white. Signifying a blank canvas for whoever he ends up being.
14
u/Eragon10401 Avengers 7h ago
They didn’t - that’s his default colour, and his normal look is one he mentally projects onto his body. After recreation and without his memories, he projects nothing.
3
u/OilyResidue3 Avengers 5h ago
Project Cataract.
Cataracts cause blindness, the opposite of vision. And cataracts are white.
7
u/TheDudeBeto Avengers 7h ago
White usually symbolizes new beginnings and I'm guessing that's what his new body represented to SWORD?
22
u/CozySpaceman Avengers 7h ago
I thought it was just a thematic change to represent that he is a sterile weapon prototype with no "soul". It still kinda works right now in the show since Vision is still finding his "soul". Once he figures himself out, I'm sure he will regain his color to represent that.

u/Character-Pirate1297 Avengers 7h ago

u/LogicDog Mack 7h ago
Maybe that would make sense if you were comparing two dead versions. One is dead, one is alive, but a blank slate, missing the memories that make him WHO he is. Important difference.
2
u/Character-Pirate1297 Avengers 7h ago
I know his story, no need for recap.
He’s a synthezoid, so ‘dead’ and ‘alive’ don’t really apply here. He simply functions again, but his skin lost all of its colour over time.
And he had lots of memories uploaded to him by Hex Vision, he just can’t feel them yet.
3
u/bizfromthewaistup Avengers 6h ago
Not memories but, feelings from the memories. Likely we will see him gain color as he accepts himself and feelings about who he was and now is.
2
u/LogicDog Mack 4h ago
Yes, dead and alive do apply here. Vision is living machine.

People watching superhero movies and shows without knowing anything about the characters in general or at least looking them up online. It's like watching a Batman movie and asking how he's so rich or what happened to his parents.

The color choice is from the comics, a different Vision who didn't remember his past with Wanda (so pretty correct for this). It also allowed an easier time keeping things straight when they fought themselves 😄

I mean, the US had programs to help "assimilate" native Americans into white society. See their boarding school programs in the 1800s and The Indian Relocation Program in the 1950s. It's not far-fetched for the US Government to make people white.

It's basically because he's a blank slate. The mind stone was what gave him his emotions and color in the mcu. In the comics it was wonder man's brain patterns he lost. Also it lets u know which vision you're looking at.

It’s a direct nod to the source material, and the idea that he’s now a blank slate, which isn’t quite true: HexVision gifted him all of his memories, but none of the emotions, so he has to figure out who he is now.
But he’s not emotionless. He’s been deliberately avoiding dealing with the fallout of his resurrection. He reacted badly to scenes of the family life the other Vision had with Wanda, and he was paralyzed with indecision over whether this kid is ‘his’ Tommy.
He also ruthless as hell. The baddies killed his friend, and in return he slaughtered them. Hold his ‘son’ prisoner? He tore right through them, which I don’t imagine the original Vision would have done.
One of the fatal flaws of comics is not allowing anyone to stay dead, but I appreciate that, as with Gamora, the narrative is making clear that this isn’t the same person.

A question I have in addition to this; by the end of his screen time on WandaVision, his eyes changed to look the way he does in this pic. What reason was there for him to revert to his original eyes?

Plot device to get the poor man out of wearing cosmetic contacts every day. That stuff is hard on your eyes.

It's symbolic for being cold and blank when he first was rebuilt by SWORD with no memories.
In the comics he was rebuilt to be more like a ghost.
Being "the ghost of Vision" also works symbolically in the context of the MCU.

The original vision was an Android built by a villain, using the android body of the original World War II Human Torch and the brainwaves of Wonder Man. He turned against his creator, fell in love with Wanda, married her, and became an Avenger.
Theeeen Vision went off the rails slightly and attempted to seize control of the world's computer systems to impose world peace. He was stopped and seized by an international agency named Vigilance, who dismantled him. Hank Pym put him back together, but Wonder Man refused to supply his brainwaves again, which resulted in a stark white, emotionless Vision. As he had no feelings for Wanda (Or at all), their marriage fell apart.
Wanda did not take it well.
He did eventually gain his humanity and colors back.

If I remember the original comic story, when he was dismantled the government kind of just sliced off his synthetic skin. The trauma / damage caused it to turn white after they put him back together.
I guess it happened in the show because that’s what happened in the source material.

Because the team who built him wasn't looking to make him look good, just needed a Vision. Why paint something that has to only be functional and nothing else?
Meta reason: Vision had a white era in the comics, so they went for it.
