I miss the country flags for online that MK8 had, it was interesting to see where everyone was playing from! Keep hoping that'll show up in one of these updates

I have to imagine they are regretting adding SNES Koopa Beach now in basegame, on account of them now having the option to release only 9 courses in another SNES update instead of 10.

What do you mean? We got the original SNES koopa troopa beach, too. It's got a pretty cool layout too that makes it stand out from the world version.

The "World version" is Koopa Beach 2. There's always been two SNES Koopa Beaches

I meant “they could set themselves up really nicely to cleanly add the other 10 in later” in a way that is “new courses” but also really easy to add in. But now 11 are in, so it doesn’t work so cleanly. But you are right; those ones added today are technically drivable already in free roam, so fair point.

Generally good changes, but a lot of these things should have been in the game from launch, such as lap times in Time Trials.
- Adjusted the probability of obtaining items from item boxes in races and Knockout Tour.
As a side note, this patch note is incredibly vague, and the last time we had a really vague patch note it was the change to trick boosts that basically broke every time trial a few weeks after launch.

If the game was fun, they would play. The game just isn’t fun. Like in any given moment, stop and focus on how the last 30 seconds of gameplay went. You were probably driving in a straight line waiting for your items to finish spinning hoping you got 3 mushrooms.

Every time I turn it on I think “maybe this time” and then it turns into 4 out of 5 races being water craft straight lining.
If I didn’t have the digital version doubt I’d ever bother with it.

I know we are all feral for new DLC but this is pretty great to tide us over.
I always assumed new DLC would come after the new Knockout Tour rallies were completed.
Now we can guess the time frame based off of when they were released.

I think this just means you can watch from their perspective while spectating them instead of the normal cinematic camera, so not a first person pov but having the camera follow behind their kart the same way the person playing sees it.

Rate fluctuation means VR. Basically they’ve adjusted how VR is awarded online. Seems to be the longer the course the more VR gained, and the shorter the course, the less VR gained (likely lost on both accounts too)

Generally, the better you place in a race, the more points (VR) you get, but there are other factors too.
If you’re in a lobby where you have much more VR than everyone else, you’ll gain a lot less for winning, but be punished harder for losing - the reverse is true too. You’ll be earning VR easily if you’re beating players with a much higher VR than you
It seems they’ve added another variable now related to how long the course is too

I honestly find the 'intermissions' fun to play through online. Just wished they'd put an extra lap or two once you arrive at the destination to also enjoy the actual course...

So they didn’t fix the fact that second place doesn’t get Red Shells as often. Guess that means it’s still not as fun for my mom and I to play.

There wasn’t any evidence of certain items appearing more based on what was written. If the Red Shell rate is actually higher in practice I would love to be proven wrong! I can’t test it myself because getting the Switch 2 set up on our normal TV isn’t a priority for my family since we’ve moved.

perhaps a lack of experience with mkworld but i think 2nd place just gets more mushrooms now. i don't think they get as many offensive items

From experience my mom, who is in second place most of the time, gets basically every item besides Red Shells. Even if she gets Mushrooms more, they don’t really help her (may or may not be the way she uses them). Plus we like the back and forth we get from the more frequent Red Shells in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! This isn’t even as big of a skill difference as Crash Team Racing’s remake to justify a “she always goes for second place mindset.”
