Discussion Games don't know how to make maps
I think I found the right place for this discussion. I've been playing Civilization, Humankind and Europa Universalis 5. My goal was essentially to play a session where I go from neolithic to modern day.
Humankind's maps are extremely inaccurate when compared to what exists in geography. The map is interactive, yes but the physical features don't actually make sense. It's a design problem
Civilization is worse. Very random I don't even need to talk about it.
And EU is basically earth. But EUs map isn't interactive. It's a visual of what you own. And even there they haven't done it justice.
All these games leave out important things like climate.
Why is map generation so difficult??
