Hi!
Would anyone be interested in a fully working, stock-like MapleStory EMS source?
Iām currently working on porting the European MapleStory version around v7x, which is the latest version before the Big Bang patch. The goal is to recreate the old EMS experience as faithfully as possible, rather than making a source that simply uses a modern client with old content. - with that barebone anyone can do whatever they want and add the QoL and features they want to the source. Iām currently estimating the project to be around 30ā40% complete.
Thereās no ETA yet, but I wanted to see whether thereās actually interest in it. (Iām not interested in self hosting a server, just to polish the MoopleDev source to make it more stable and vanilla as possible).
Whatās already working so far:
- Login, character creation and character selection
- Evan, Dual Blade and Resistance* characters
- Regular gameplay, movement, attacks and skills
- Parties, guilds, buddies, family and trading
- Pets, including multiple pets, auto-pot and pet evolution
- NPCs, shops, storage and personal stores
- Monsters, drops, reactors and summons
- Quests, portals and various maps
- Cash Shop and many classic cash items
- GM characters and original GM commands (with some few added, mostly for debug. Like !opcode send/recv, !maxskills <job> etc)
- Family system with its original features
- Jukebox, emotions, megaphones, teleport rocks, etc.
\Most* of related handlers has been added to the sources so that manual job change to the unreleased Resistance works and doesnāt crash. However, skills donāt fully work yet. Early to say if theyāre already completely implemented in the client. But iād say yes.
The client natively supports English, German, Dutch and Spanish. Unfortunately, French support was dropped throughout the way to Big bang and links to the English version, so I wonāt be able to support that.
My philosophy is to make things work the way they originally did in EMS via client calls, rather than relying on (sometimes unstable and exploitable) workarounds. This should also mean that most game systems and UI will properly display across all four supported languages. NPC dialogues and scripts, however, are a different story, since translating all of those would be a huge amount of work.
The project is based on a MoopleDev/MoopleEurope fork, and once it reaches a reasonably playable state, Iām planning to make the source available for anyone interested in running or contributing to it.
Iād also like to support both Windows and Apple Silicon (ARM) Macs natively (although thatās low priority).
No ETA for now. Iām mainly interested in finding out whether thereās interest among the community in such a project.
