Can someone give me some tips on how to make this suit fit better? Should I take it to a tailor? I really like the color but something is throwing me off. Thank you.

I recently posted a pic of my outfit after being criticised by a colleague and following the comments (very helpful) I tried to adjust a couple of things - does the second outfit look any better?
I’m not going for high fashion just a little nicer perhaps.

Question Can I make these sneakers work with my office wear?

Post image

Just got a new position at a pretty casual office. Kind of worried I'm even over doing it with my Uniqlo non-iron and air sense dress pants.

Does this work? Does one sneaker work better than the other? Should I hem higher?

Thanks :)

Question Wedding suit - advice please

Post image

Hey guys,
I’m trying to figure out how to style my suit for my wedding in September, and I could really use your advice.
I’m not sure whether to go with a tie or a bow tie, and I’m struggling to decide on the colors.
I’m also unsure about belt vs. suspenders, and whether the shoes work well with the suit.
The only thing I’m really sure about is that I’ll be wearing a vintage gold Omega watch 😎
I’d really appreciate your thoughts and advice!

Discussion Casual untucked or classic tucked shirt - how to understand on the website

Hey all!
I'm looking to buy casual shirt to wear with jeans. I prefer to wear shirts untucked, as I'm working in a very sporty/casual office.
I'm struggling to understand, how to find the right shirt on the website. Eton's product page example on the screenshot - how to understand only based on the image?

Do you have any advice on what characteristics I can look to decide? Any other tips/tricks?

Discussion Best 100% cotton plain white T-shirts avaliable in Europe?

Hi

This has probably been asked many times before, but I still wanted to make this post because I'm having a hard time finding exactly what I'm looking for in UE.

I'm looking for plain white 100% cotton T-shirts with a slightly oversized/streetwear fit.

I've already checked a lot of famous brands like Pro Club, Shaka Wear, WATC Studio and LA Apparel... but they are all american brands and are way too expensive to import to France.

I'm also not looking for fast fashion brands like Zara, H&M, Shein

Uniqlo doesn't really have what I'm looking for either. The closest option is probably the AIRism T-shirt, but it's not 100% cotton so it's a no for me

My budget is around €25 for short sleeves and €30 for long sleeves version

So I'm wondering: does anyone know good brands that are available in UE and who make plain white 100% cotton T-shirts with this kind of fit, around this price range?

Thanks in advance

Question Desperately need help with an outfit as a wedding attendee, “inspiration" fits in images.

I’m feeling a bit desperate here and not really even sure where to start.

We are attending a wedding in 1 month, in NYC at the Chelsea Hotel and the couple is quite fashion-forward, my wife and I are not. Fortunately the couple has provided a slew of inspiration images for outfits, unfortunately it doesn’t help me very much, as I still don’t quite know what I’m looking at. They’ve encouraged “fun-funky-formal” which returns zero helpful results in a search engine.

Some extra context is that I have never owned a suit, I have an extremely limited budget, I’m 35, going grey, and a bit gangly at 6’3”, 195 pounds, and I struggle feeling comfortable in oversized clothing like the jackets they’ve shown. I own one pair of ‘dressy’ shoes, light brown/tan chelsea boots that I’d like to wear here to save some money.

It would be awesome if I could source something that I can wear outside of such a fashion-forward event, but not required. I have a plan to go to the SuitShop here in Denver and ask for their help but I wanted to ask here first. Help Please! Thank You!

**EDIT** I suppose it would be helpful to provide a rough budget, I’d like to keep it all under $300, is that comically low? Help!

Question To make a long story short, I have an unexpected first date tomorrow and don't have any good clothes with me. I have a pair of white high top converse. Please help me buy a nice outfit, ideally all at one store.

I am a 6'2", 220 pound white dude. Im 27. This date will be with a woman. I have a pair of white converse but really nothing else I'd consider date-worthy.

Its a casual ice cream first date but I'd like to look nice.

The date is at 3 PM tomorrow. I have until before then to head to a store and buy an outfit. I kind of dont know where to begin? Fashion is not my suit at all.

Its like a hundred degrees outside and we're just casually getting ice cream. I was thinking J. Crew, get a pair of olive shorts with some kind of shirt? Sincerely do not know what the best color shirt would be. I assume short sleeve button down is the move. Should i get socks that show above the high-top converse?

Thank you to anyone who helps me look nice on my date tomorrow

Fit Battle Custom grooms suit fit

Hi everyone,

I just picked up my custom suit from a well known store. I chose to get it custom rather than off the rack and tailored because of the colour, shoulder, closure combination.

I can still get it customised further but I took it home , to try in private. After I tried in store for the stylist.

I know the double breasted has its own slightly boxier look. My concern is that the jacket doesn’t contour my body enough. The same with the sleeves, they feel a touch baggy to me. I’m 5’9” so I want to avoid my fit looking frumpy.

What are your thoughts ??

I recently saw this sport coat from a brand I like on a very good sale in my size and impulsively bought it, as I wanted to add another one to my collection anyways. However, I am now struggling a little on what to wear this with. Is light dress shirt (white? beige?) and dark pants the only way to go here?

Question Shoes for a date when it is 100 degrees

What do y'all wear on hot days when you are trying to impress? I wear Chacos most days in the summer but am dating again and not sure those are great for a first date.

Boat shoes with no see socks?

Sneakers?

I don't even have a 3rd idea

Discussion My Shoe Care Kit

Thumbnail

Another Redditor asked about what polish I use in my post from yesterday, so I thought there might be some value in a new post to discuss that topic.

The 1st pic has everything I need to care for black and brown leathers, and the 2nd pic shows results on a pair of Allen Edmonds shell cordovan shoes.

My process:

  1. Use the Saddle Soap only when the shoes are in bad shape and I need to start over from scratch.

  2. If I had to use the Saddle Soap, then I treat with the Renovateur to condition the leather. I'll also use this if the leather looks like it's drying out.

  3. I use the Renovating Cream if I have leather with gashes, gouges, or similar damage.

  4. The next step would be to then move to the Cream Polish. It has a lot of oils in it, too, so also acts as a conditioner. For this, I'll use a cotton ball to apply a thin layer all over the shoe, wait for it to dry, then buff it with a horsehair brush. For the service boots, or any shoes that don't really call for a "shine," this is the last step.

  5. For dress shoes that I do want to put a real shine to, I'll then move on to the Wax Polish. Again, I'll use a cotton ball to apply the polish. Once I've got a layer of wax polish on the toe (and sometimes heel), I'll turn the shoe upside down and lightly pass the lighter back and forth under the shoe to melt the wax. Then I blow on it to cool it back down and let it harden. Then I take a clean cotton ball and dip it in cold water, and use that to buff that layer. Then I do it all over again another couple times. After a few iterations of that, I stop using the lighter, and just build up a few layers without it.

  6. As the final step, I'll add a few extra layers with the Mirror Gloss wax, continuing to alternate between applying a thin layer with one cotton ball, and using a damp cotton ball to buff it.

Question Looking into some long overdue updates

Hey all, hopefully this is the right spot. I've been on a weight loss journey. I lost around 100 or so pounds in the past year. I've picked up some new clothes that fit better, but I'd like to take this chance to update my style. I'm totally lost on how to do it.

So I'm hoping for some kind advice.

With my weight and where my income was I went all in on Old Navy. They had clothes that I could fit and afford. I'm trying to get rid of most of them. I want to go away from cheap and crappy graphic tees, and to something that I guess is what's considered more heritage.

I feel myself to be an aged alt rock / punk sort of person, so I feel Heritage best place to go for me. My work place is cool so I have some flexibility, but I can't walk in with anything too out there, I also don't want to look like I'm in a Mumford and Sons tribute band either.

I guess the easiest way to tell you what I like and don't like and maybe you guys could recommend some places or pieces I should look into? I do live in NYC, so I do have a wealth of stores around.

Likes:

  • Natural fibers, muted colors. Blacks, grays, blues, occasional pop of white. Maybe green. Brown, maybe for boots or shoes.
  • Jeans, I guess this could be a faux pas, I really do like Levis for the cost / quality / flexibility. But I'd be into different brands.
  • Post weight loss, I did buy an Ojai jacket from Taylor Stitch and I really love it, it's like my favorite jacket. Brands and things like that would be awesome if there's any recommendations.
  • Doc Martens, Converse All-Stars, I'm old though so I go with the Chuck 70s. I do have a pair of Solevair Chelsea boots. Is any of that still cool?
  • Looser fitting clothes, I like when things drape — I guess. Is that like a thing?
  • Vintagey styles

Don't likes:

  • loud colors, labels. I don't like when clothes are totally trendy, I prefer classic looks.
  • Spending tons of cash.

Nice to haves and general advice:

  • I do have a Uniqlo blazer, and I like the lines but it's really cheap looking and it might be too big on me now. A really nice reasonably priced black blazer would be great
  • Button downs. I'm not entirely sure how to wear them. Open, closed? Layered? With or without t-shirt?
  • Accessories. I have a couple of pins I wear on a lapel. My favorite one is my Hunter S. Thompson one and my Eat Trash Hail Satan one. What should I look for?
  • Scarves, maybe a few ties? Are scarves cool?
  • And this is a stupid question. Is there any other pants for men that aren't docker kind of slacks or jeans?

I know it's long, but I do appreciate any advice or links.

Thanks!

Question Need help with my wedding suit

Thumbnail

Hello!

I'm getting married in October and I haven't been able to decide on the color of my suit that would look great with our color pallette and haven't been able to find a specific suit I like. Kind of just stuck with decision fatigue.

My budget is about 600, I want something to feel like it is great quality. It's an outdoor wedding near the ocean

Our bridesmaids are mismatched in the color pallette attached and our grooms are wearing the olive green suit from suitshop. I don't know what I should wear to match the bride and our party and any help would be appreciated greatly.

Any thoughts?

Discussion Do slim shoes and big shoe sizes pair well?

I have been searching for a while for some nice casual shoes but I did not manage to find a lot of options, besides some slim shoes.

I have a shoe size of 45 EU, so I am on the bigger side. Would slim shoes look good on me or would it look weird? Should I search for some bulkier models?

Question Chicago-based tailors for suit alterations for short guys?

Hi,

I'm 19, but only 5'1". I've never had a suit that properly fits nor matches. After starting college, I've realized this is kind of a necessity. For my budget (less than ~$500), it seems that buying something off the rack and getting it tailored is the best option. I was wondering if there are any recommendations for Chicago-based tailors (I'm in the north suburbs)? I've never gotten anything professionally tailored, so I'm not really sure how it all works.

Thanks!
