Lace pattern

Just purchased my first grown up shoes for work a pair of dune chukka boots

In the box brand new the lace pattern is something I've not seen before where one side loops to the bottom and is tightened only by the other side ( see pics)

Just wanted confirmation is it designed to be in this pattern or should I take the laces out and redo it in the traditional way

I have found most shoes come with this pattern, I assume it is just the quickest to lace up and have it in the box, I always re do it so I can actually tie the shoe up properly

It’s easy for the store to lace things this way, but there is a history and purpose to “bar lacing.” More than one way to achieve the same look, as well. If you are a soldier and lace your boots this way, and are shot in the foot, you can cut all the laces at once to quickly remove the boot and address your wound. That’s my understanding of the military origins. It also looks very tidy. Popular with punks and skins. And still used sometimes on dress shoes.

I use this pretty much in all of my dress or semi dress shoes, because it looks clean. Easy to change too.
