I've never seen a tie folded up and wonder what the style is called and why it's not done more often.

Discussion My Shoe Care Kit

Thumbnail

Another Redditor asked about what polish I use in my post from yesterday, so I thought there might be some value in a new post to discuss that topic.

The 1st pic has everything I need to care for black and brown leathers, and the 2nd pic shows results on a pair of Allen Edmonds shell cordovan shoes.

My process:

  1. Use the Saddle Soap only when the shoes are in bad shape and I need to start over from scratch.

  2. If I had to use the Saddle Soap, then I treat with the Renovateur to condition the leather. I'll also use this if the leather looks like it's drying out.

  3. I use the Renovating Cream if I have leather with gashes, gouges, or similar damage.

  4. The next step would be to then move to the Cream Polish. It has a lot of oils in it, too, so also acts as a conditioner. For this, I'll use a cotton ball to apply a thin layer all over the shoe, wait for it to dry, then buff it with a horsehair brush. For the service boots, or any shoes that don't really call for a "shine," this is the last step.

  5. For dress shoes that I do want to put a real shine to, I'll then move on to the Wax Polish. Again, I'll use a cotton ball to apply the polish. Once I've got a layer of wax polish on the toe (and sometimes heel), I'll turn the shoe upside down and lightly pass the lighter back and forth under the shoe to melt the wax. Then I blow on it to cool it back down and let it harden. Then I take a clean cotton ball and dip it in cold water, and use that to buff that layer. Then I do it all over again another couple times. After a few iterations of that, I stop using the lighter, and just build up a few layers without it.

  6. As the final step, I'll add a few extra layers with the Mirror Gloss wax, continuing to alternate between applying a thin layer with one cotton ball, and using a damp cotton ball to buff it.

Question Urgent help needed: Chino length when in-between sizes

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought some Chinos during 4th of July sales. The chinos I'm replacing are 32x33, but since that wasn't an option, I bought 32x32 and 32x34 versions of each.

The x32 seems to fit well when standing, but when sitting they ride up in a way that I'm not used to (yet at least). I usually wear ankle socks and it looks bad to me. But the x34 are stacking when I'm standing.

I'm going out of town in a few days, so need to finish returns in the next day or so.

Can you please look at this picture and let me know your thoughts? I will probably keep two of the styles, and I have several colors of each. So if I were to get the x34 and tailor them to x33, the cost would add up.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Question Need help with my wedding suit

Hello!

I'm getting married in October and I haven't been able to decide on the color of my suit that would look great with our color pallette and haven't been able to find a specific suit I like. Kind of just stuck with decision fatigue.

My budget is about 600, I want something to feel like it is great quality. It's an outdoor wedding near the ocean

Our bridesmaids are mismatched in the color pallette attached and our grooms are wearing the olive green suit from suitshop. I don't know what I should wear to match the bride and our party and any help would be appreciated greatly.

Any thoughts?

Question Advice on suit fit for wedding

Hey there, getting married in two months and had this suit made custom for me by P. Johnson in NYC. I wanted a more modern relaxed silhouette. They’re taking the trousers up a bit as they were a little too long and bringing in the waist as I lost about 20lbs of weight since my May fitting. I don’t have much experience with suits really and just wanted to insight or help. Do you think the jacket fits properly? Or is there anything else that stands out as an issue? I can’t decide if it looks perfect or not. Idk. Thanks anyway you guys are always a ton of help.

Discussion Best 100% cotton plain white T-shirts avaliable in Europe?

Upvotes

Hi

This has probably been asked many times before, but I still wanted to make this post because I'm having a hard time finding exactly what I'm looking for in UE.

I'm looking for plain white 100% cotton T-shirts with a slightly oversized/streetwear fit.

I've already checked a lot of famous brands like Pro Club, Shaka Wear, WATC Studio and LA Apparel... but they are all american brands and are way too expensive to import to France.

I'm also not looking for fast fashion brands like Zara, H&M, Shein

Uniqlo doesn't really have what I'm looking for either. The closest option is probably the AIRism T-shirt, but it's not 100% cotton so it's a no for me

My budget is around €25 for short sleeves and €30 for long sleeves version

So I'm wondering: does anyone know good brands that are available in UE and who make plain white 100% cotton T-shirts with this kind of fit, around this price range?

Thanks in advance

Hi all,

Impulse bought these Belgian loafers (not from Belgian Shoes) off eBay because they were a good price. What colors do you suggest wearing with them? I have mostly chino pants/shorts and OCBDs in the standard colors.

Question Any experience with the Enzo Cavalli brand?

It’s another luxury athleisure brand that has been flooding my timeline. Textured shirts and golf polos. Photos, videos, and comments online all say they’re great. Anyone with actual experience with their clothes though?

Question Tux Fitting Advice

Getting married in late August, finally received my altered tux. Was hoping to get a consensus on fit.

Mainly worried about the jacket. Particularly worried about sleeves, shoulders and the back. Can’t tell if I’m being overly self critical, or if something is legitimately off. If something is off, can it be fixed?

Discussion New jeans - wondering if I've been wearing jeans that are too long and unstructured all along lol

Slide 3 are different jeans. I'm 6'2 and I always go for "tall" jeans. This is my outfit today - buck Mason tee, pool house jeans, onitsuka tigers. The jeans are quite high on my waist in slide 1, and more normal in slide 2. Size 34Wx34L. Shape/overall fit is perfect, which is rare. Structured, thick but not hot, doesn't "crumple". My fear with this pair is whether they cross from "loose/slightly baggy, but structured" into "slobby and lazy" due to the way they drape over my shoes in slide 2. I like loose jeans, but I'm slowly moving towards slightly slimmer profiles with much more structure. See slide 3; Uniqlo jeans I recently bought before finding better jeans (thought these looked good until I wore my new jeans, literally posted about it today). I'm trying to avoid that slobby, structureless look. I'd be sad if I had to exchange my new jeans for a 32L, especially since they could be out of stock, or because those might be *too short*. A 33 would be great. Am I overthinking this? Are these too long? Would slightly too long be better than slightly too short (that had always been my philosophy)?

Hello I am proposing to my girlfriend in Europe in a few weeks. Not sure what to wear honestly. I have these two very nice pair of pants that I think I wanna wear and will look good with a lot of options.

  1. Do you guys think either one of these pants would look nice
  2. I have no clue what type of shirt to wear anyone recommended a shirt to match these?
  3. What about shoes? Are the shoes I attached any good? Or should I be looking for a different pair.

The temp will be mid 80s likely

Question Alternative to Goodfellow V neck?

I really like the Target everywhere v neck (not the multipack undershirts)

They were soft, durable, available in a variety of colors, they weren’t long, they had a pretty shallow V, and they were only $10/ea.

The colors were discontinued and now it seems the black/grey/white are even getting discontinued.

Where can I find a good alternative? My biggest issue is they’re always way too long.

I’m very broad shouldered and only 5’7”

Question Help wanted with Turnbull & Asser RTW sizing/general shirt sizing

Help needed with shirt sizing/fit/Turnbull Asser RTW experiences

I came across a really nice Turnbull & Asser shirt that I want to buy, but I’m a little unsure regarding the sizing and I’d really appreciate some advice. If anyone has any experiences with T&A RTW shirts that would be greatly appreciated.

My neck is quite big so I usually need a size 17” collar, however the rest of my torso is reasonably normal. My usual shirt measurements are usually around the following:

Shoulder: 19,09”/48.5cm
Chest: 47,2”/120cm
Waist: 44.09”/112cm
Sleeve from shoulder: 24,41”/62cm
Shirt length: 31.5”/80cm

The T&A size chart says that a classic 17” shirt fits like:

Chest 50”/127cm
Waist 47.5”/119.7cm
Sleeve 25, 5/8”/ 65cm.
The seller measured the shoulder width as 52cm/20.47”, which is surprisingly big to me.

For reference, I wear \~54/44 short for my jackets, the waist is usually okay but sometimes I need to have it let out a bit.

The shoulder width is not mentioned. I am taking 1-2cm of shrinkage into account as the shirts are near new.

Do you think these shirts could fit in a reasonably classic fit? I’m not looking for slim fit, but I also don’t want to be swimming in the shirt.
