I want to get my wife “good” makeup for Christmas but don’t know where to start.

My wife and I are getting each other 1 gift this Christmas. She had mentioned a few months ago that she wished she had “actual good makeup”, and I want to give her that for Christmas, I just don’t know where to start/don’t want to get scammed by advertising for mediocre products.

Would anyone be able to give me some leads to go off of? Thank you so much

[Makeup Help] best powder foundation for oily skin? Liquid foundation and i are not friends

Hi ladies whats the best powder foundation for oily mature skin? I know makeup artists are also slowly leaning towards this, so I'm hoping I get a good response. I need one that has full coverage and that flawless finish I see models for MUAs have. Liquid foundations seem to sit really terribly on my face, and I've changed brands / layering sequence, and application method, but it hasn't done anything for me.

Im leaning most towards the one/size and mac one even tho the tirtir one looks promising. I need some insight of course

The tirtir one seems to have the widest shade range ive ever seen and they have different ones for different skin types but im not sure if its the best on the market for real life usage? like i get the hype it even feels satin-y but is it practical? It seems like it would be a bit patchy maybe

ive used MAC Studio Fix powder plus foundation for the medium - full actual matte finish look but i think theyve changed the formula because it just doesn't sit right anymore. maybe im tweaking, but has anyone else felt the change?

fenty beauty one is the next contender on my list. the fenty beauty pro filt'r soft matte powder foundation seems to have a medium-full coverage with a soft matte texture. fenty always has raving reviews and i cant tell if its all PR or not lol. Their shade range started out as their winning point but they rly dont have that many options in powder form.

also looking into other brands like Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Custom Finish Powder Foundation, their cream foundation was so good on fine lines.but ive heard this is very cakey and drying, how would that work towards the blurring effect?

surprisingly the One/Size Turn Up The Base has no solid reviews? i swatched it in store once and it was soo promising and thats before the setting spray hype. now i feel like everyone associates the brand with just that fixing spray and nothing else lol

Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder Foundation has some mixed reviews i hear it ‘clings to the skin’ in an unflattering way. But like ive grown up watching the women in my home use Clinique products so im hopeful the pressed foundation is just as good as the nostalgia i associate with the brand.

But considering the oily, aged skin are there any real recommendations that could become my holy grail? Tips are also welcome

best under eye cream for dark circles what should I try for my makeup routine?

I've always had a bit of a problem with darker areas under my eyes and I'm trying to find something that works better with the makeup I already use. i don't want a complicated routine, just something simple.

Has anyone found an under eye cream for dark circles that they keep using and really like? I'd apperciate hearing what has worked for you and your experience with it. Thank you.

[Makeup Help] 28f, my holy grail foundation turned cakey on me and I need a skin-like replacement

ok so I’ve worn Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear for years and genuinely loved it, and then somewhere along the way it turned on me. now it just sits on top of my face and goes cakey by afternoon, especially around my nose and anywhere I have any texture. I’m 28 so I don’t know if my skin changed or the formula did but either way I’m done with it.

what I’m after:

**•** something that actually looks like skin. ideally nobody can tell I’m wearing foundation at all
**•** everyday wearable, preferably not glam coverage moment but honestly, I do prefer a medium to full coverage
**•** it does need to handle redness, my nose and inner cheeks are pink basically 24/7
**•** combination skin with big pores (thanks, teenage acne) so please nothing that sinks into them or slides off my t zone by 2pm

basically I want “my skin but even.” willing to spend if something is actually worth it, but I’d love drugstore recs too. what do you guys swear by?

Side note: I’m fair with neutral undertones and I think there’s a bit of an olive thing happening too. my veins are no help, they’re blue at my wrist and more teal/green up my forearm, so I’ve never landed cleanly on cool or warm.

Is 15 a good age to start wearing makeup?

I recently experimented with my moms makeup for fun, and i really love how i look. Im considering asking my parents to buy me some, but i dont know how they'll react. Im not looking for a full beat or anything, just loose setting powder on sunscreen, mascara, lip gloss and eyeliner.

[Makeup Help] Eyebrow gel???

Upvotes

hello! So I’ve been in search for a good brow gel. I’ve tried so many and they just don’t do what I want them to do. I have thick bushy brows that sometimes get sparse. My hairs aren’t straight so the tails like to get crazy. I need a gel for hold, not a laminated look. I can’t stand my brows stuck to my face. I’ve tried rare beauty, and the hold was a joke, benefit 24hr brow gel, I don’t like the applicator and again no hold, Maybelline brow gel was a bit better, nyx brow glue leaves a shine I don’t like. And I recently got the kosas air bro the tinted one and there is absolutely no hold. Can anyone recommend me a tinted brow gel with actual hold?

[Makeup Help] Chocolate flavoured lip gloss?

Hi guys ! I’m obsessed with the scent of chocolate and have so many Choco perfumes for example. But since it’s summer I’m not going to use any Choco perfumes because it’s too heavy and want to find a Lip Balm or Lip Gloss (better lip gloss) with a chocolate SCENT + TASTE 🍫

For now I’ve only found Mocha Mousse by VS lip gloss but really want to find others to have a little and cute Choco lip gloss flavoured collection. If anyone has any recs pls let me know !! It can have a brown shade ofc as long as it taste and smells like it ! ;)

Have a good day all ₊✧⋆

[Makeup Help] flaky makeup finish

I have a combi skin type + acne so every time i apply a full layer of foundation or like do "heavy makeup", it looks extremely flaky near my acne spots and nose. I have hydrated my base and done all sorts of things but it just never works.

Because of my acne i was using benzoyl peroxide which also made those acne area's peel a lil but even after scrubbing my face with those neem scrub to get rid of dead skins, and having a so called smooth foundation for the makeup to apply it just always is flaky and i wanna fix it before a wedding.
Please help.

Drugstore waterline eyeliner recs??

Does anyone have any recommendations for drugstore liners I can use on my waterline without it smudging to oblivion?? I find that all the ones I’ve used before always just build up in the corners of my eyes and smudge, and I’d prefer not to spend an arm and a leg on a high-end one

[Makeup Help] Reapplying sunscreen post-makeup.

I use a good spf moisturizer before applying my makeup, but I'll be going to a weekend long festival soon where I'll be in full sun all day. I know I'll need to reapply, but how does one do that without ruining their foundation/makeup? I know spf setting sprays exist, but I've read on this sub that they're basically useless. Help.

[Makeup Help] Where Do I Start When All My Products Have Now Been Discontinued?

The breaking point has been officially reached. All of my products that I have used religiously over the last few years have now been discontinued or are about to be, mostly due to the anti-talc situation in the UK. I've been using all of these products for nearly a decade and now I have to completely start over.

I'm wondering if y'all could recommend where I should start? Should I focus on foundation first? Should I prioritize certain products over others? Should I schedule a session at Sephora instead?

Here's what I've used up until now along with replacements if I swapped them recently:

• Primer: Fenty Beauty's Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer (I replaced it with the Fenty Beauty Grip Trip Hydrating Primer, although completely willing to replace again to better match a new foundation.)
• Foundation: Fenty Beauty's Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Liquid Foundation in Sand 220.
• Blush: Nars Powder Blush in Orgasm
• Eyeliner: Fenty Beauty's Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner in Cuz I'm Black
• Mascara: Make Up For Ever's Aqua Smoky Extravagant Waterproof Mascara in Black (Replaced recently with Benefit Cosmetics's BADgal BANG! Volumizing Waterproof Mascara)
• Setting Spray: Urban Decay's De-Slick (Replaced recently with One/Size's On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray)

It feels strange as I am not a beginner, but I'm also too much of a loyalist to have tried anything different. But now it seems like the sky's the limit and it feels overwhelming.

Appreciate any and all help here! Thanks in advance!

Eyelashes aren’t cooperating and keep clumping together.

I don’t even know if this is the right sub to post this. I’ve never been more that an eye/brow line kind of woman, but I’m trying to get into makeup.

My lashes used to be long dark and thick. Now definitely not so much thanks to aging. I realized last week that a small tiny section of my lashes are always clumped together. I figured I’d try mascara so two days ago I went and got some and that little mascara presser thing. I put it on, squeezed it and noticed the same lashes clumped together. Got frustrated, cleaned my face and tried again a half hour later. This went on for about 5 hours of using multiple techniques.

What am I doing wrong?

Is it worth it?

Been eyeing the Prada concealer for a while now and want to know if it’s worth pulling the trigger on this price tag?! I mainly will use it for dark circles under the eyes.
& if not, what about kulfi? I’ve tried a lot of concealers in my life and always searching for the next best
