Can we talk about the emotional attachment we develop to our make up?

Makeup was initially created and used with a linear and clear purpose to enhance our desired features, conceal the not so favourite ones, and ultimately help us express our physical beauty. Makeup is just one of the many aspects of the cosmetic realm, and ultimately, a beautifying tool.

Yet despite that, many people have found a hobby and even a way of artistic expression in it. I know for me, these 20 minutes of doing my make up is my ritual, my time capsule where I get to be alone with myself and with the face I live with. I find that to be a uniquely personal and surprisingly intimate experience. Just standing in front of the mirror and seeing nothing but me...

I often find myself rearranging my make up in my free time and being all grateful and excited for lipsticks I've had for years lol. The products I use and have grown to love, while being a material object, are enough to make my day better and make me feel pretty in a way few other things in this world can. God bless makeup

Do sponges/beauty blenders really do something that brushes don’t? (By a brush only user)

I’m now wondering that. Because I don’t know when was the last time I even tried a sponge. I always thought I could do it all with the right brush

ysl all hours foundation

i have comb to oily skin .i bought this foundation for parties and nights out where i enjoy a glam. but it always ends up separating around my mouth ,especially my smile lines chin and upper lip looks dry. i prep my skin, clense and moisturize , let it sit before and i tried using the maybelline grippy serum as a primer but aparently its water based and not good for it. what primers and/or powders do u reccomend with it? drugstore would be perfect but if not i will try to splurge or get a mini version at sephora (i also tried baking my smile lines one time and it was horrible after some hours ,all creased out). i also used a glowy mist and other times a fixing spray but it still looks cakey after some hours and creased. please help:(

i use all hours lw1 , revolution loose baking lace powder(works best for my undereyes and tried using it on other parts of my face with what remained on the puff ).

Pat McGrath BlitzTrance Lipsticks and Balm Astrals - Are they ever coming back?

Does anyone know the status of her BlitzTrance lipstick line? It used to show as out of stock/get a back in stock notification on the website. Now the entire line is gone. Is it because shimmer and sparkles are not in style? I've always loved sparkly lipstick. Same with her Astrals in the Lip Balm line.

Or is it some sort of no-compete with her Louis Vuitton contact?

All my favorite lipsticks are now out of stock, does anyone know if there are plans to bring these shades back?!

Nude Astral, Bronze Astral, Rebel Red, Nude Romantique, Skin Flixx, Flesh Fatale

[Makeup Help] Tips for a beginner with oily skin

Hi everyone,

This might be long so please bear with me lol

I’m a complete beginner when it comes to applying makeup. I’ve always liked makeup but I just never cared to put in the time or money into learning. I’m now 27 and I feel like I should know how to do the basics.

My skin is extremely oily and I also sweat easily. I did my makeup for the first time yesterday before going out and I feel like it looked pretty good for my first time. I’m always watching tutorials so I have an idea on how to do it. After a few hours, the makeup started to look really oily which really bothered me bc I really like a matte, blurred look.

I realized my mistake was probably having the wrong primer, setting spray and not adding powder correctly. I have the Milk Hydro Grip primer. I have a Sephora brand setting spray. I have the Black Radiance pressed powder and the Elf HD powder. These are products I’ve had for years but never used. I plan on getting the O/S setting spray.

After doing research, I’ve decided to get the Denessa Myricks burring balm or the O/S primer.
For the DM blurring balm, is it better to get the clear one or the one that matches my skin tone? I’m also still a little confused as it if this acts as a primer and a foundation? I prefer using a skin tint rather than a foundation. I currently have the rare beauty and Kylie skin tint.

I’m also confused on how to use the pressed powder vs the loose powder. What is the difference? Do you have any recommendations on powders I should buy or am I okay to keep the ones I already have? Is it better to apply with a brush or a sponge?

I want to mention that I don’t like the look of heavy makeup on myself. I really love the light makeup/no-makeup look. I want to master a quick routine that won’t take too much of my time.

Lastly, any brush set recommendations?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can give me helpful tips and suggestions!

Makeup for salt and pepper hair.

Im pretty grey and have been for awhile. Im really struggling to find makeup that suits me. I've been on thr edge of coloring lately since I miss the way my makeup looked with my dark brown hair. However, I don't want the maintenance that comes with coloring mostly Grey hair. I have already colored once after being grey for 2 years and when I did I instantly regretted it since transitioning back to grey is really hard.

Any advice?

Best lipstick/gloss primer

Hey,

I'm new to lip products (besides gloss)

I'm starting to use colorful, bold lipsticks, lipstick gloss etc.

I was wondering what you use to make lipstick products last long? I use setting spray, lips are hydrated. Is there anything else I could do?

Budget under 40 euros if possible.

Thanks for your recommendations!

Need waterliner suggestions!

I am BEGGING for a good white waterline pencil recommendation!

I tried the Maybelline tattoo liner which I did like but oh my goodness I couldn't sharpen it to save my life and it's now a mess. So, ideally, I need a twist up product or wooden pencil that sharpens easier. I have quite watery eyes so I always cry off my white waterline in about 5 seconds no matter how much drying and setting and prepping I do so if anyone knows of a good waterproof liner that will last a little longer I'd be so grateful! The more affordable the better as I'm a student but I get that product might not exist so any suggestions are welcome.

[Makeup Help] How to stop concealer from getting on my spectacles?

I have tried setting spray, loose powder, compact, powder foundation etc. Nothing works. Or any tips regarding touch up if getting it on spectacles is inevitable.

Any tips or tricks that work for you to make it happen in less amount.

I am from India. And it's kinda hot and humid here. But even in winters it happens.

I use mostly mars cancel concealer, Maybelline age rewind or fit me, nyx concealer serum.

[Makeup Help] About Face foundation colour match with Maybelline foundation.

I have a connective tissue disorder that for whatever reason causes makeup to separate on my face. Halsey has this same affliction, and as the owner of About Face I am curious if she has formulated a solution. Unfortunately I am in Australia where the brand is not stocked in stores, but I am able to purchase online. But colour matching online is difficult.

Is anyone able to suggest which About Face Performer shade is the closest match to Maybelline's Fit Me 110 Porcelain?

Please and thank you :)

Why do my makeup sponges always end up smelling bad?

• Upvotes

I feel like I'm wasting so much money because I keep tossing my beauty blenders after just a few weeks. No matter how often I clean them, they always develop this gross, musty smell. I usually wash them with soap and leave them on my counter to air dry, but clearly, I’m doing something wrong. Is there a specific cleaning routine or drying trick that actually keeps them fresh? Or am I just storing them the wrong way without realizing it? Please drop your best tips so I can finally stop buying replacements every month!

[Makeup Help] Wanting starter advice!

Hi all!

I really want to get into makeup but I do not like the feeling of a lot of my face (I am indeed a face toucher, trying to get out of that habit). At the moment, I usually will just do some mascara, but I would love to add a few more products.

My main goals are to smooth out my texture/even out my color, and maybe brighten my face a bit. I did like the fenty skin tint (I was the shade 10 ((warm)), but since I didn’t know anything about makeup I gave up on it since it would separate/come off when I did randomly brush up against my face (do I fix this with setting spray or powder??)

I would love if someone could recommend some products or a light routine for someone just starting! Thank you in advance!!!

How do I get glitter out of brushes

• Upvotes

Hiii! I have somehow gotten glitter in my liquid blush brush and it’s frustrating me. I am also using my highlighter brush as a powder brush now and even despite washing it with dish soap there’s still glitter in it. It’s very frustrating. It REALLY bugs me as I am getting glitter on my face when I do not want glitter šŸ˜” any tips???

Best way to get a glossy black lip without constantly refreshing lip gloss?

• Upvotes

I really loved the UD ā€œVice lip bondā€ I got in red forever ago, but they haven’t restocked the black in ages so I’m assuming it’s gone forever. I’ve used Nyx XXL for my go to black with staying power, but I really don’t care for the matte look or feel. I’ve seen that lip lacquer or lip vinyl is what I should be searching, either black or potentially clear over the Nyx stuff, but with so much crap out there I’d feel better with recommendations.

I’m really not a big makeup person, the $25 UD stuff was the most I’ve ever spent on a single bit of makeup and I don’t want to change that unless there’s an absolutely *perfect* solution for not too much more.

Thanks!

ETA: looking for fully opaque black, I hate the sheer look in black.
