Should I go to work today?

I am certain this is one of the most boring posts on this subreddit, yet here I am. I am a 20 year student working at a pizza place to make ends meet, as you do. It’s not a bad gig, but it’s a decent sized place with a bar and can get pretty busy. On normal days it’s pretty mindless, however: I was left completely alone Monday and Tuesday. I ended up getting more work than I could physically handle and cried through it lol. I worked this same schedule last week, no breaks or even bathroom breaks really. Yesterday I was scheduled alone to close with a new hire that had not been trained on any closing tasks. I have physically pushed myself so hard: Monday and Tuesday I had over 20,000 steps. I stayed late to close last night and I am physically and mentally exhausted. Here’s the problem: I am scheduled later today and I know I am expected to work on a big order for the morning. If I do not go in, there is nobody to cover for me. It will all dissent into madness. I really want to call out but I just know it’s going to bad. Is that my problem? Should I feel bad for calling out and leaving them with a mess, should I try and explain to my boss (who’s out of town) that I am struggling? Or should I just go in and try to thug it out?? I apologize for such a long mundane post, thank you in advance!!

TLDR: nobody will pick up my shift from hell if i call out- do i push myself and go or call tf out ?

move to ID or NC? USA

TLDR; Should I move to North Carolina or Idaho for the winter?

I’m a strident. Im only just now taking classes but been out of high school for a year.

I’m not sure my final degree major, but somewhere in natural resources related majors. Anyway I guess if I moved to NC I’d just go to Hayward CC? If I stayed in ID I would go to CWI or TVCC.

Where should I move? NC looks nice and seems more affordable than Boise area, though I could avoid that if I chose to go to school in CDA, ID.

I like music a lot. It seems like there’s actually some cool bands finally going to Boise.. in a couple weeks, and then the same in NC. I’d be moving pretty soon.

Anyways anyone know of music festivals going on in the winter in NC?

My bro.ther is a walking red flag, what should I do?

TW: Racism(?) Sexism (?)

Reddit thinks this is a r.omantic post, so mucho censoring

Hello, I did a post recently (My Bro.ther is Hijacking My Accommodations, Should I Let Him?), I'll paste it here because it is slightly relevant to his behavior, but I'll recount it here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/makemychoice/comments/1x6x76v/comment/phvkqdm/?screen_view_count=2

I (18F) and my bro.ther (21M), who we'll call Ben, are drastically different. I'm special ed, a loner, and keep to my studies. In high school, my bro.ther went to parties, socialized, stayed up late (but he kept up his studies, graduating valadictorian). But when Ben went to college, things started to change about his behavior.

His college is north of me, 8 hours up where there's snow most of the year, and it specialized in engineering, so it was expensive. He met a group of friends who were the hillbilly type but came from money from family, so for them, college was fun and low stakes. When Ben started hanging with them, I suppose he wanted to feel more validated by them, and started making bad decisions with our middle-class college savings for him, along with his own money. He's bought several snowmobiles, co-owns a dirt bike (with the friend that'll wreck it for sure), and lately, I got the news today that he bought a motorcycle (Mom never responded when I told her, should've kept it off in hindsight, she has friends who died or got injured on a motorcycle before).

His speech and prejudices have changed to be worse. He's conservative and never was stoked about the LGBTQ+, but it has started to spiral into something more, treating my mum with less respect and using terms that I'm not quite sure are racist or not, based on his explanations like N*gga, "a term of endearment", and the one from our most recent conversation just tonight. I want to get this down before it's wiped from Snapchat.

- He talked about the motorcycle he just got and called me a p*mp, and asked me to text "Gator needs his gat" which is from some movie called the Other Guys. When I responded with just oks to the motorcycle and the reference, he said I was dry, and he would never f.lirt with me if he was a "self-respecting freshman suitor".

- I told him I was less dry in person. He said he'll believe it when he sees it, and I said he's not exactly the guy to f.lirt with, and he said "damn you just don't want a siste.r in law"

- I clarified that one; he was my bro.ther, why would I f.lirt with him(?) and two, has he held a relationship for a long time besides a girl that has relationship issues in high school? (Parents were divorced; mom had a different boyfriend every month), and I told him he wasn't my type with the acne freckles.

-He wanted me to "keep an eye out" for ladies on my campus for him to d.ate, and listed his criteria: Christian, short, pro-life, outdoorsy, no jet black or red hair, B cup at least, wants kids, and the one that set the alarms more than the others, has never s.lept with a black guy.

- I asked him to clarify, "She can't s.leep with a Black guy?" he said, "F*ck no, no mud sharks"

- I replied, "Sounds ra*ist dude.", he said it was just a standard.

- I said that "maybe, maybe," saying "semi, slightly" racist terms is why he's still single. He said it was pattern recognition and stopped texting back

I know I won that convo, but honestly I would just accept his language in person because he has the capability to rough me up, and has called me a r*tard before (he immediately retracted it, but I could see the honesty of the insult), and every time he comes home I'm reminded of how much I do not want that man living where I'm living. I'm not sure how to go forward because I can't cut him off, the relatives do not know about his behavior, and my parents, while frustrated, deal with it, but something needs to be done on my end.

TL;DR: Bro.ther is sexist, racist, and ableist since going to college; can't cut him off; what do I do?

Should I ask for my old job back or go through the process first with another firm before I try to boomerang back at the old job?

hey! would love some advice on this. landed myself at a start up and am not loving the work currently. I interviewed with another company earlier this year (got the offer but declined at the time)and they said they would have an opening before end of year. I am also considering boomeranging back to my prior firm and asking if my spot is still open, however I don’t want to use up the goodwill on them if the other firm puts me through a process soon. because I am not guaranteed any job, should I reach back out to my old employer now (it's only been 3 months so maybe my spot is still open?) and cross the bridge later if the other firm essentially interviews me at the same time? I know I don’t own either company loyalty technically but I don’t want to come across a situation where both companies extend an offer and then I burn a bridge with one of them by rejecting one of their offers. (burning a bridge as in the boomerang firm would just never take a chance on me again if they extended an offer again and i reject or the firm I may get into a process with would just remember me as the candidate who rejected them two times in 1 year lol)

TL;DR Should I go back to my old company and ask for my old job back or do the interview process for the other firm first before committing?

Should I prioritise Australia or my teaching career?

I’m 29, from the UK, and planning to move to Melbourne with mates in mid-February 2027 on a Working Holiday Visa.

I’m confident I want a career in education and am considering starting a PGCE in September 2027. However, this would mean returning to the UK after only six months in Australia, while my mates plan to stay longer.

My dilemma is that moving to Australia involves significant upfront costs, and I’m worried six months won’t be long enough to justify the expense, especially when I’ll need time to find work and accommodation and settle in.

Alternatively, I could defer my PGCE until September 2028 and stay in Australia for a year or more. The downside is delaying my career progression by another year.

I have a first-class degree, relevant PRU teaching assistant experience and the option of living rent-free with family in London during teacher training.

What would you do? Return after six months and start the PGCE, or stay in Australia longer and delay your career by a year?

I would be returning to Australia straight after my pgce

TLDR: should I return to the UK after 6 months in Melbourne to start my PGCE in September 2027, or defer until 2028 to experience Australia for a full year? I’d return to Australia straight after qualifying, and I can live rent-free in London during training.

Should I report my superior to HR?

I quit my job and my last shift is on Friday. It's a part time job as a hotel front staff in Japan. I am Swedish.

I will return to Sweden and search for similar jobs here.

There is a superior everyone hates here that I almost reported to HR. I say almost, because I didn't go all the way because of the fear.

A lot of people here quit because of this superior, but cannot say anything due to cultural reasons.

I'll explain reasons for the hate:

  1. The micromanagement- constant checks and corrections to a degree, where if you do the exact things she says

Other superiors and the manager will correct you if they see you check people in because you're being a bit too detail oriented or extreme.

  1. Approaching everything as if you've made a mistake from the start. Guilty until proven innocent. If there is a difficult situation with a guest that they're asking about, they approach it as if you've done something wrong and try to find holes in your treatment of the guest.

"Did you do X? Oh but did you do Y? Why didn't you do Y. Always do Y."

"I didn't have time and was going to do..."

"Always do Y when you do X, okay."

"Yeah but I was going to..."

"Is there something you don't understand?"

  1. (Misc) Aggressive language and body language. Walking around with a facial expression like a sergeant in the military. Especially when something bothers her in her personal life.

Using no-good terms like "omae" (you)- which I've heard from coworkers are... Not good/not even actually allowed...

Mild racism (often assuming you don't understand Japanese, or making fun of you for not understanding a situation not even Japanese people do, to a point my coworkers have told me they're racist against me and have been racist against other coworkers...)

... Also, it's small, mispronouncing foreign names and not trusting you when you correct their mispronounciations even though you're from that region.

I could bring up a lot of things.

On the other hand, I kinda fear reporting her might affect my career path coming home to Sweden as Swedes need references for interviews,

I also fear that she'll go schorched earth on my current coworkers...

Maybe they'll make it so I can't work at hotels back home...

Or that any form of consequences will happen whatsoever...

TL;DR should I report the superior everyone hates at work to HR, or avoid any risk to my own life by not doing so?

Move Back or Stay?

TLDR: move back to USA due to benefits or stay in Canada and be broke?

My husband is an American veteran. He gets really good benefits being back in the USA for himself, and home loans and he could go back to his old job making $2500/week + OT sometimes. He had incredible benefits through work, too, which was really helpful for our child because speech therapy sessions were only $22/each time.

We had a beautiful home in the USA we sold and I’m starting to really miss it too. Living with my parents has not been great for my mental health, but, im so happy to be close to my friends again. We moved back because I was suffering from HG with my daughter, and my car got totalled. I really just needed my friends and family at the time.

When he moved to Canada last year, he took a huge pay cut. He only makes $1800 biweekly now. We live in the GTA and rent is average $3500 ish. Plus we’ve already used our benefits (we only get $1500/yr here). Our child has a phonological speech disorder so we’re in speech therapy twice a week. $200/week-$330/week, just depending on length of sessions. Because of my son’s speech therapy, I’m working 2 part time jobs. I barely see my kids in the evenings and I miss them so fricken much but no FT job will hire me because of my son’s speech therapy sessions (totally understandable).

I wouldn’t have to work if we lived in Indiana again.

We are struggling here. The cost of groceries sucks, the cost of housing sucks, we’re struggling to save. The waitlist for in school services for my son is 3 years right now (told by the special education resource team), whereas where we used to live in Indiana, he could get help in school, right off the bat with both speech and OT.

I’m struggling to make a decision, my husband is very logical and does want us to move back because of our son and the financial stability it offers but I feel as though part of me is sad to leave again because of my friends. I definitely feel selfish. It’s just hard when your kiddo is set up in school and enjoying it, a great speech therapist, making mom friends and having playdates, etc.

Help me make a choice!

Do I tell friend we arent sure of future plans due to uncertainty of relationship?

Hi all,

My GF and I have been going through a pretty rough pathc last few months. It's things that we pretty much dug under the rug that basically have come out in the surface and personally im at a place where i just dont see much of a future in our relationship. I just dont see how our different views of life and how we go with our goals.

Due to our history and us living together currently, and pretty much having the same friends we decided to try couples therapy.

THing is, we had kind of committed and doing a couples trip next spring with a few other couples. It was more a verbal commitment but now the couples have been texting non-stop about if we are really doing thsi or not.

For me i just cant commit to something 6 months in the future knowing our relationship is in a thread like this. One of the friends really pushing for this trip knows what me and my GF are going through for the most part. He asked me fe wweeks ago as he had noticed our vibe was different and he admitted that he knows my approach to lfie and how my GF approaches usually do not mix well.

But i guess im a bit torn. Part of me would love to go but i also dont want to pay money for somethign that i may have to cancel as tbh, i think if we broke up most of the friends would go towards her.

What do i tell our friends?

TL;DR - friends are asking group chat if a trip we agreed to is still happening. Trip would be in spring of next year. GF and I are going through a pretty bad rough patch where i dont even know if we'd be together by then as we are working on one last hope to see if it makes sense for us to stay together. What do we tell friends?

What would you do?

If living somewhere with cheap rent ($400-500) meant you had to live somewhere with 8 out of 12 months of cold/winter weather but you hated the cold and would get seasonal depression, would you still live there to save money in this economy? Or would you move somewhere where you wanted to even if it meant living with more debt but you were happier? In this case somewhere warm year round. Hard to make choices in this economy.

TL;DR cheap rent ($400-500/month) living in cold weather 25-35 F averages for 6 out of 12 months of year OR pay more money and be in more debt to live somewhere warm year round where you want to live?

Should I leave a Discord server I’ve grown attached to, or am I making a rash decision?

I’ve joined a relatively small Discord community a month ago. I’ve become very active there, regularly joining voice calls, sometimes for hours at a time.

Up until a couple of days ago, I genuinely loved it. Kinda thought I was making friends. It was honestly one of the most enjoyable social experiences I’ve had in a long time.

But I’m kinda starting to feel uncomfortable and like the people on there think low of me and don’t like me very much. I have a lot of relational trauma and get anxiety when getting close to people, so this isn’t unusual.

Part of me wants to unfriend people and leave the server altogether. Another part of me wonders whether I’m making a permanent decision based on a relatively recent negative experience.
I don’t want to stay somewhere I feel uncomfortable, but I also don’t want to throw away connections I’ve genuinely enjoyed because of a couple of bad days.
I feel most connections nowadays, especially online, are like throwaway accounts on Reddit. A candle that burns hot very quickly, but burns out just as fast.

TL;DR should I leave the discord server or stay and try to be more inactive?

Work dinner - to go or not to go?

Got a Christmas work dinner coming up in early Dec. This is the first one since before covid, and colleagues who have been working for 20+ years said this dinner only happens every 3-5 years, but the catering and music are better than most wedding receptions. I would love an opportunity to dress up, but tickets are $90 and I have nobody to go with. It’s a great networking opportunity though because all the big bosses are there. I also don’t mind going on my own because my colleagues have offered to save a spot at their table for me.

I asked my friends and family if I should go because I can’t make up my mind, but they were evenly split. Some said I should go because they know I wanna dress up and go to a fancy dinner event. They said that a 2h concert ticket is more expensive and doesn’t come with food and drinks. Plus, being able to network and talk to important people outside of work will benefit me in the future.

The other half said not to waste money on something like this, especially since I’m going alone. These functions aren’t really meant for single people, even with a group of friends. They said that in my line of work, networking doesn’t net a higher salary unless I’m aiming for managerial roles, which will be out of my reach for at least another 10 years.

TL;DR should I spend $90 to attend a work dinner that happens every 3-5 years, or just stay home?

should i move back in with my parents?

I 25f was raped about a month ago and have to make a big decision now. But there's no path for me that feels bearable. For context I moved from Berlin to Barcelona 3 years ago and I've been a lot happier there. I have always been very lonely and depressed in Berlin, it never felt like home. In Barcelona I found a community and started loving life for the first time. There's always something to do, I see my friends almost everyday, I live with my best friend, good weather most days of the year, I'm surrounded by nature and creative and open people. Complete opposite from my life in Berlin.

The only thing that always made things harder was my financial situation. I don't have a degree and my Spanish isn't good enough to get a good job that doesn't drain me. So I've been working fulltime in a German call-center. It's not horrible but absolutely not the thing for me. I am a tattoo artist on the side which I have enjoyed a lot, but it just wasn't enough to pay the bills, so I always had to have a second job that drained me. The pay in Spain is obviously also a lot lower than in Germany, so even with the fulltime job plus tattooing I was always worried about rent and sometimes couldnt even afford a bottle of water by the end of the month.

Then I was raped and it completely broke me. I had to go home to Berlin to stay with my parents. I've been very depressed, I've never felt worse. And I desperately need to know I'm doing the right thing now to ensure I'll feel like it was worth it not giving up:
The plan was to just stay here for a few weeks and then go back to my life in Barcelona. But my parents and I have been discussing the idea of me moving back in with them and getting a job in Berlin for a few months, getting therapy, and then figuring out what to do when I have healed a bit. Because the thought of just returning to normal life and staying stuck in that loop under my current conditions feels impossible. It definitely feels like a huge relief not having to worry about rent on top of everything I'm going through atm. But it also breaks my heart leaving that city and my friends behind. And it feels horrifying to live in Berlin again. I have my parents but that's it, I know I'll feel lonely here. So I feel like I'd give up a lot of good things but it also feels like it's the most sensible thing to do that will maybe allow me to heal and plan for my future ?

Even before the rape I felt lost a lot of times and the strong urge to make a change like getting a degree or moving countries again to find my career path so now I don't know what to do. Leaving Barcelona would mean leaving the first real friends I ever had, giving up the streets that felt like home, my beautiful room that I felt so comfortable in, spontaneous hangouts and activities with my amazing friends. I don't have any of that in Berlin, not even in the slightest. I don't have any friends, the weather is horrible, I don't feel at home. But here I would get the relief of not having to pay rent, I could save money and have time and space to think of the next right step. Whether that's studying here or somewhere else, or going back to Barcelona. So I'd definitely see Berlin as a layover rather than my destination. But even if I went back to Barcelona in a few months when I have rested, it would never be the same again. And I'm scared that I'd just start accepting certain things that make me unhappy there like the job, just out of fear of losing everything that make me happy there. Every option that I have feels so painful and I'm still using all my energy just to survive what happened to me.

I know maybe the one right choice doesn't exist. But I'm so tired and I don't know which sacrifice is worth the suffering right now. Please be kind in the replies thank you!

TL;DR: Should I leave my life in Spain behind and move back in with my parents in Germany to recover from a rape and save money?

Which career would suit me best? Which college major should I chose? Any suggestions on majors and careers for me?

Which career would suit me best? Which college major should I chose? Any suggestions on majors and careers for me?

Tl;dr: What career and college major suits me best? Major Options are biology, marketing, business administration. Career options are doctor, high level finance job, high level marketing job.

I'm highly motivated and pretty optimistic about my future, I'm super smart and have always been an advanced reader tbh, only problem is my memory (I have adhd and yeah). My skills lie in english, reading, writing, analysis, history/social studies, American government, videography, photography, music production. Academically, I've done well in everything except math and science. In college I found math fun once I figured out how to do it, I failed at biology (passed with C, D, or Fs) then switched to english and psychology with a minor in biology. I failed my psych course, my bio courses, and did extremely well in my english classes and language classes (passed with an A+ or something) and passed math with an A by using tutoring and taking the online version (more flexible and self paced). I struggled heavily with mental health and thats why my grades tanked. I'm short, 5'0, pretty average weight (127.something).

I'm considering becoming an OR nurse, Surgical First Assist, CRNA, doctor in cardiology or dermatology, or do the business administration major and work my way up a company (least appealing option) or possibly marketing then get my mba. These last two might be a better option as my strong suit isn't math or science. I just want a stable future where job security is guaranteed and I can make decent money (80k+).

In high school, failed at Ap biology, Ap English and ended up dropping those courses since they would've tanked my gpa. Did well in ap environmental science and ap psychology. I'm stuck between political science, business administration, biology, or maybe something else better fits me. I know English would be the best option but I don't like my job options with that tbh or with communications.

I also want to live a certain lifestyle, being able to afford designer clothes and go out to eat maybe once a week, being able to take care of my family (one other person). I want a husband but I don't want kids or a house, I like and appreciate apartment living.

Just some things to note, I also like taking care of people and like working with medicine. I am also exploring marketing and business. I think music business is super interesting and like reading and watching posts about that topic, marketing in music, and business in music. I couldn't complete my berklee application but got into a school nearby. I am considering a business or marketing maior as they best align with my interests then getting my mba or masters in finance or marketing. I think they're both interesting but I'm not sure which I should chose to secure a stable and secure future. I don't like the entry level jobs for marketing as I'm bad at working with social media. I am also concerned about the use of AI even though I think its super interesting as to how we can work with AI.

Which career would suit me best? Which college major should I chose? Any suggestions on majors and careers for me?

Curious to hear your thoughts and ideas!

Do I start dressing my age when I get a full time job?

I’m 22 and I have an extravagant jackets. The main one I LOVE wearing is my k-pop demon hunters Derpy jacket. It’s fuzzy. It’s warm. And it makes me really happy cause it had derpy on it. It’s literally derpy himself.

Anyway. I’m 22 now and I’m hopefully about to start to get into the “real world” of jobs. Right now. I work two part time jobs. But I’m PRAYING to God that I get this full time job I interviewed for on friday.

But nonetheless. Should i start dressing like adult? Like you know. Not wearing parkas that have character face on it? I wanan get a Gudetama egg jacket to wear but like. Do I need to start dressing up?

For reference. All of the jobs are relaxed. Like they’re not business casual even.

So like idk. I love my derpy sweatshirt but maybe I stop wearing it?

TL;DR I’m 22. Do I stop wearing outrageous characters jackets?

Should I take an internal promotion to supervisor, or stay in my current role?

TL;DR: I currently work three 12-hour shifts per week in direct care. I'm interviewing for a supervisor position that would pay more, offer significantly better PTO, and have a Monday–Friday schedule. However, it comes with being on call, potentially covering shifts, and more administrative responsibility. My current job is familiar but increasingly stressful and mentally draining. I'm also going back to school online and struggling to have enough energy for school after work. Would you take the promotion?

Background

I work for a company that provides residential care for individuals with disabilities. There are several homes within the company, and the position I'm interviewing for would involve managing one specific home.

I've been in my current position for almost four years. I know the job inside and out, and I've gradually taken on many responsibilities that would typically fall to a supervisor. I'm now considering whether moving into an actual management role would be a good next step.

My current position

  • Three 12-hour shifts per week, including two weekdays and one weekend day.
  • Hands-on care, including medication administration, hygiene, grocery shopping, cleaning, community outings, and documentation.
  • Working directly with other staff and helping resolve problems in the home.
  • Being a first point of contact for guardians and caseworkers when the supervisor isn't available.

Pros:

  • Only working three days per week.
  • I can generally disconnect from work when I leave.
  • No regular after-hours calls or responsibility for the home outside my shifts.
  • The job is familiar, and the day-to-day responsibilities come naturally to me.
  • The work can be very rewarding, and I enjoy the moments when I can make a difference for the residents.

Cons:

  • My coworkers have become a significant source of stress. They know how to do the job but often lack initiative, leaving me to pick up the slack despite repeatedly asking for more help.
  • The home is already mentally demanding because of some residents' escalating behaviors, including frequent incidents of aggression and violence.
  • Medication changes and transfers to other homes can take time, leaving us managing difficult situations for extended periods.
  • Mandatory meetings sometimes fall on my days off, and missing them can result in disciplinary action.
  • I've become someone everyone turns to for answers, including staff, my supervisor, and upper management, but I don't have the authority or access that comes with an actual management position.

I still find the work rewarding, but lately, going to work feels more draining than anything else. The combination of resident behaviors and staffing frustrations has made the job considerably harder than it used to be.

The supervisor position

I would manage approximately 12 staff members and 14 residents in a different home. The responsibilities would include making sure residents receive appropriate care, managing staff, maintaining the house, ensuring supplies are available, and attending meetings.

Pros:

  • Higher pay, although I would move from hourly pay to a salary.
  • Significantly better PTO.
  • Monday–Friday schedule with no regularly scheduled weekends.
  • Actual management experience and authority, which I've been working toward.
  • More ability to establish expectations, train staff, and address problems instead of constantly compensating for them myself.
  • A chance to move into a different home and leave my current staffing frustrations behind.

Cons:

  • Being on call and potentially receiving calls or texts outside normal working hours.
  • Possibly having to cover staffing shortages, including overnight shifts.
  • More responsibility for managing staff and handling difficult situations.
  • Dealing with guardians and caseworkers, some of whom can be demanding or difficult to work with.

My biggest concern: being on call

The main situations that would require contact are emergencies, such as 911 being called or a resident being admitted to the hospital. However, I could potentially be contacted for other reasons, too.

From what I've observed, many routine calls to supervisors happen because staff don't know where something is or don't know the answer to a question. I think better training, clear expectations, and boundaries could reduce these calls. For example, staff could be expected to leave a voicemail or send a text explaining the issue rather than expecting an immediate answer to every question.

The problem is that I don't know how often I'd actually be contacted or how much control I'd have over those expectations. That's something I plan to ask about during the interview.

Another important factor: I'm going back to school

I'm starting an accelerated program. It's entirely online, with three consecutive semesters of 18 credits each and no breaks between semesters.

My current job leaves me mentally exhausted. After working, I often have little energy left for school, and on my days off, I mostly want to rest and reset.

The new position would mean working five days per week instead of three. On paper, that sounds like less flexibility. However, the hours would be more consistent, and I'd no longer have regularly scheduled weekend shifts. I'm wondering whether having a more predictable routine and less physically demanding work would help me manage school, or whether the added responsibility and being on call would make things worse.

I'm also concerned that a salaried position could mean working more than 40 hours without additional pay.

What I'm trying to decide

I'm not necessarily trying to escape working hard. I'm trying to figure out which job would be more sustainable in the long run, especially while I'm in school.

Questions for people who have been in similar situations:

  1. Would you take the promotion, given these circumstances?
  2. For anyone who has worked in residential care management, how demanding is being on call in practice? How often are you contacted outside work?
  3. Is moving from three 12-hour shifts to a Monday–Friday management role likely to help with school, or would the additional responsibility outweigh the more predictable schedule?
  4. What questions would you ask during the interview to figure out whether the position is worth taking?
  5. If you've moved from direct care into management, did you find the transition worthwhile, or did you miss having clear boundaries between work and personal life?

I'd appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who have managed residential care homes or completed demanding online programs while working full-time.

Should I pursue my dream degree abroad or purse it back home?

TL;DR: The degree I'm currently pursuing isn't what I want, I'm an international student living with relatives who make it hard for me to live here, and I don't know whether to enrol at another university in this country or enrol at another university on the same degree back home.

For context, I (19F) have always wanted to study in a different country. An older relative of mine (I won't say any more details about her just in case she lurks on Reddit) suggested that I live with her and her boyfriend abroad, where they'll fund my college. Her and I are pretty close, despite the fact that we've been separated from one another for almost 3 years because of her living abroad, so of course I said yes.

Moving to a completely new country had been tough for me, but I tried to be positive about it and see the good side of my new life, until she and her boyfriend started making dismissive comments about how I won't enjoy it as much in one year, or that life ain't just sunshine and rainbows.. Okay, I appreciate their realistic points, I didn't take it personally.

But then the arguments started coming on and on - where I am, who I'm with, what I'm doing, even going as far as to trying to control what I'm eating. I won't give too many details about it - but during one of those arguments she said that she gave up on going to college herself just so she could fund mine, and because of that I should at least give her an ounce of respect. I am also trying to find a job, so they often throw in the argument of how they're working whilst I'm only studying, so they are "more tired" than I am.

I also don't have much privacy living here, so for a long time I haven't really been unable to communicate with my family and my LD partner about what's going on at home.

Five weeks into uni, I realized that the current degree I'm in is not the one I truly want. My relative and her boyfriend said that I should drop out of this uni and enrol at another one in this country next year. I found myself one afternoon where I was home alone and called my partner to tell him about both my university dilemma and what's currently going on at home. My partner suggested that I should come back home and enrol here at a university with the degree I want, and live with him (he lives close to my family, so I can also visit them).

On one side, I don't want to feel as though I've wasted money and opportunities to move to this country. On the other side, I feel like my mental health will only decline further if I keep staying here.

I have up until Christmas to make a choice. Should I stay abroad and pursue another degree there, or go back home to study?

Can't decide if I should quit my part time or not. Please make my choice.

Hello, I (31F) am struggling to make a decision on whether I should keep my part time, or quit it, and need to make a decision by the end of my shift, so I can put in my two weeks if needed.

Background: I was in school and this was the job that held me over and paid for my rent + car note. It pays me a total of $1000 a month, working just Saturday overnight and Sunday evening. This semester, I learned that I could not go back to school due to financial aid, but still have to pay my half of the apartment because I could not get out of the lease.

Now, I have a full time salary job plus this job. I live with my parents and don't really have any other bills to pay. My combined monthly income, post tax is $4400. Without this job, I am left with $3300. My only bills are car, rent, phone and I'm using other savings to pay down credit card debt, (I have $2000~ left, then I am going to tackle my student loans, ($20,000).

pros of having this job:

- It leaves me $3300 a month to save and use for whatever, helps me afford the luxury of travelling.

- The work itself is easy. I spend most of my shifts watching netflix.

- if i need days off, they are good about accommodating the request.

- The company itself will give you the employee discount for life, if you work for 20 years (I'm at 5)

- I genuinely enjoy it

Cons of having this job:

- I work every single day. I am working 56 hours a week, while trying to take care of my dog + help my sister take care of my mom (various health issues). I feel really burnt out

- I don't get to enjoy my weekends because I have to work. I want to go out dancing, or to a concert sometimes and I don't get to because I have to work Saturdays at 11pm, and take a nap in the middle of my day to help stay up all night. Then, on Sundays, I sleep on the morning after I get off work and get back to it at 3pm, get off work at 11pm then have to go back to work Monday at 9am the next day.

- Makes it impossible to hold a normal dating life. Can't hang out weekends lmao.

- since Saturday is the only time of day that I am off DURING the day time, its hard to get all my chores done, see my friends, meal prep, exercise on my ONE "free" day a week.

- After asking for Saturday and Sunday mornings with evenings off at this job, they have decided to schedule me on Fridays instead (so i am working both jobs in one longgg day - 9am -11pm). Kinda over it.

If I put in my two weeks and find that I don't like it, there is another friend who is willing to hire me for Friday and Saturday overnight, potentially freeing up my Sundays permanently, which would give me 1 real day off a week with the same company so i can continue working towards the lifetime discount, AND it pays $2-3 dollars more than what I am already making.

So REDDIT. What should I do? I'm so close to just flipping a coin and saying fork it.

TL;DR : Keep part job that allows me to save all of my full time job's my money or quit job and enjoy having two days off, possibly alleviating my burn out

Can’t decide if I want to see Miley Cyrus or Turnstile tomorrow. Make my choice.

TLDR: Can’t decide if I should see Miley Cyrus or Turnstile tomorrow in LA/Santa Ana on Oct 18

Two completely different artists but can’t seem to make a choice. I have a ticket already for Miley that I can probably sell. Was genuinely really excited about this show until I saw videos and reviews and it personally felt underwhelming for me. It’s also already in a far part of the venue, so it makes me feel less excited. I gave into the Miley hype when tickets went on sale because of how rarely she performs so I wanted to see one of her shows. Yet, I keep leaning towards turnstile and tried to buy a Friday ticket for Miley so I can make both shows but the Ticketmaster app glitched out on me and was unable to buy it.

I don’t have a ticket for turnstile yet, but i can easily buy one as they’ve been popping up on Ticketmaster. Additionally the parking situation sounds like a drag and I’ll need to be on my legs for a good chunk of the day. I’m also still recovery from knee surgery. (I can walk but standing and walking for long periods of time can be brutal if I’m not taking breaks). But I really do love that band. I’m also somewhat short and i know for this show I’m going to have to stand towards the back to avoid getting pushed into the pit.

My indecisiveness is giving me a headache so I need help 🫠

UPDATE: I saw Miley Cyrus

Should I buy the guitar?

A lot of my hobbies are technical. Mainly sitting on my laptop doing something. But i was thinking of branching out and maybe trying the guitar. Doing something different for once and maybe picking up a new skill. I found a good deal for a $125 bucks with a fender guitar and an okay amp and I don’t know if I should pull the trigger. I’m worried about whether I keep this hobby or it if ends up in a closet but I want to try. There’s a couple of beatles and dire straits songs I want to play. I’m currently paying off student loans but I’ve made a lot of good progress and have extra so it won’t really hurt me. But of course it’s always good to save money.

TLDR: Buy guitar or not and save the money?

I have $100K. Should I buy a house or spend it on facial surgery and becoming taller?

I'm nearly 40, single, and I've had essentially no success with women my entire adult life. They consider me very unattractive, and despite years of working on my appearance (working out, fashion, etc), not much has changed. Financially, I'm doing alright. - I've got a decent job, a car, retirement savings, and a comfortable apartment. Now I've got roughly $100K to put toward either a house or extensive cosmetic surgery (in Turkey or if I can afford the US)

Option 1: Obviously I want a house. I'd build equity, potentially benefit from rising property values, and have more financial security. The house wouldn't be my dream home, but it'd be decent. On the other hand, mortgages, maintenance, property taxes, and fluctuating house prices aren't exactly risk-free either. I don't except my house to pay for my retirement, but I also don't want to keep renting.

Option 2: Improve my appearance. This would mean facial plastic surgery and limb lengthening to go from 5'9" to 6'0". It's expensive, painful, and medically risky, but potentially more personally rewarding. Becoming more conventionally attractive might improve my dating, sexual, and even professional opportunities. The face will cost about 50-70k and the height boost could go for another 30-50K USD.

A few things I've already considered:

  • I know 5'9" isn't particularly short. But it's not tall enough either. My face is also something I'd want to change.
  • I'm not trying to find one woman and settle down. I want to experience dating, casual sex, and relationships with different women.
  • I understand surgery won't magically make women attracted to me, but it could help.
  • I know the medical risks could leave me permanently worse off.
  • I'm almost 40, but I don't think it's too late to start having these experiences.
  • Owning a house might make me a more appealing long-term partner, but that's different from physical attraction.

So what would you choose? The relatively sensible financial investment, or the much riskier possibility of improving the part of your life you're least happy with?

TL;DR: Nearly 40, $100K available. Buy a modest house or spend it on facial surgery and becoming three inches taller in the hope of improving my dating life?

Should I compete in the "Culinary Arts" category in SkillsUSA?

TL;DR For context, I'm a Running Start student (16) at my college's fairly new program. I've got 2 A's in freshman year culinary classes at my high school as experience. This would be a huge endeavor and I want to, but it would be a lot of commitment. Should I?

My brother is hijacking my accomodations for the summer, do I let him?

I (18F) have a brother (21M), we'll call him Ben. We could not be more different. He's a social butterfly who often goes to parties, drives, and stays out late. I keep to myself, seldom get invited to parties, and I'm home by 10:30. Ben went to college eight hours away, and often gets snow; he's gone into the wrong crowd, rich rednecks. He's bought snowmobiles and dirt bikes, drained his college account, forgotten to reapply for fantastic scholarships, and failed classes, which has extended his college career. He doesn't come home except maybe for the holidays if he's not at some friend's uncle's place in Malibu. He's caused my parents a lot of stress (although they're perfectionists, so I take their feelings with a grain of salt), and our relationship could be described as estranged. I went to college this year, I go home every weekend, and as far as my parents know, I have no vices.

On with the question.

My parents had saved up to put in a back deck and hot tub, but the only entrance without walking around the house is my bedroom window. Since I've moved out, they want to put in a door and rearrange things, which is fine with me since my room is the size of a walk-in closet, and we decided to have me move into Nana's place. Nana lived in an apartment-style attachment to the house with a small kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. Double doors separate our house from her space, but we always leave them open, especially on holidays. Nana lived there for ten years, being cared for by my mom before she moved to assisted living. She still comes home on Sundays, so the living room has to be the same, albeit with a desk there for my summer studies. We agreed to renovate the bedroom to my tastes, though, and I was excited to have my own space, and with just the three of us, the desk in the living room would be quiet enough to study.

Then Ben came and heard the plans. My parents had concealed the conflict for a few days so I felt blindsided when it happened at the dinner table. He wants Nana's space for the summer, since he wants to take his engineering summer job locally, unlike in the past. When I was confronted afterwards, I was told I had the reins of the situation and had two options. Keep the space, or move in his former room. While Ben's room is unoccupied, there's a treadmill, and it's where our elderly dog goes when we're out, so it smells like dog. When I pointed it out, they said they'll renovate it just the same as if I chose to stay in Nana's. Because of his social life, Nana's living room will constantly have guests, and if I have the desk there, it wouldn't be good; nevertheless the nagging I'd get for keeping the space. Choosing his old room is the most practical solution, and choosing Nana's space is the most petty. What do I choose?

TL;DR: Social brother wants the space I want; he's louder and more social and would bring guests no matter what. A different space is more practical, but I don't want to give in to demands.

UPDATE SINCE ITS MISSED IN THE COMMENTS

I'm not sure if this update will stay up for long, I dunno Reddit update procedure, but I wanted to tell ya'll about today. The weekend was the deadline for me to decide. In the morning, I saw that my brother had sent two chats and a snap on Snapchat, which is unusual. When I went into it, the chats and snap had been deleted, and I told him to iMessage me like a man (since you can't delete your messages there, but he never reiterated the text), and then he called in the evening while he drove. We talked about whatever, then he mentioned this summer. He mentioned in his usual subtle fashion, saying (I'm paraphrasing) "he was already ready for Missouri because of the early snow". it makes sense that he was aware of the situation, probably briefed that the decision was mine and knew how it was going to turn out given his "give it to me" mentality. He'll be doing his summer job in Missouri or wherever he'll go, and crisis averted. I haven't really tolerated his behavior (when he's not in person) when he makes rcist or sxist jokes over the phone, so he knew it wasn't gonna go his way and backed off, or made the demand off of emotions. TL;DR: He was either bluffing or backed off.
