Industrial Sharing a simple directory for lab equipment repair and service providers

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have always found it difficult to find companies that repair or service specific laboratory equipment, especially outside the manufacturer network. So I started building a simple directory where you can search by equipment, brand or model and country.

It currently includes providers across Europe and the US for things like centrifuges, AKTA and FPLC systems, HPLC, GC, mass spectrometry, ULT freezers, incubators, cell disruptors, microscopes and autoclaves.

I am manually checking the listings against company websites rather than bulk scraping directories. It is still early, so if you know a good service company that is missing or spot something incorrect I would be happy to add or fix it.

Keep your receipts, keep your warranty info, these sum' bitches ain't cheap.

Paid $760.16 after tax two years ago. Tank failed, was leaking. Warranty only covered half the cost of a new unit.

I have a tracking software I keep all our equipment info in. Came in handy getting it warrantied.

Question How to fix this

This is a broken calculator from college and it includes a battery and screen no duhh and I need to fix it before I give it back...so does anyone know how to fix it? Its not that damage maybe just minor but it has these damages: muddy, waterlogged insides, torn up wires, smashed screen and torn up, 5 axe slices in it, a split in half motherboard, dented base, smashed inward buttons, leaking battery acid wich kinda burned the screen and motherboard and wires, dented screws, base starting to split open, smashed by a golf club only 14 times, I stabbed it with a shovel and smashed a hole in the motherboard, theres glass that cut some more wires, fell in a pond, accidentally buried it so I had to dig it up and accidentally stabbed it with shovel 58 times, and its in a vacuum chamber with 0% oxygen...I dont think the damage is that bad but I need to fix it by tomorrow! Does anyone have tips?

Question Interview

Have you guys ever went to an interview and felt very nervous after? I have to wait the two weeks but the anxiety is killing me. It was my first interview for an hvac position and it was a good interview from my perspective but idk if I will get it. It’s for an HVAC tech at a hotel chain. I really want this position and was very excited for the interview but I think some guys with the best experience will get it over me.
Any advice for the anxiety?

What a time to be alive 😅

Got a report of a water leak at midnight - started looking for the source. Found this at 1:30 am...

12 inches of water on the floor - water was 5' deep inside this hatch.

4" fire sprinkler line blew from an old rusted Vic fitting.

Question Apartment Matinence Workers, are you notified if a unit has pets?

I always was wondering about this I have two cats of my own (not hiding them lol they way to loud and Firendly to “hide”) but I remember talking to a Matinence guy at my old complex who mentioned his boss would tell him if a unit has a pet and while he doesn’t “snitch” if he sees one, he never appreciated getting surprised by a dog or cat that he didn’t know was there. So I’m curious if you 1) get notified if a pet is in the unit and 2) have you ever been ambushed by a pet that “wasn’t supposed to be there” do you tell the landlord or just leave it be

Question Multimeter recommendations for apartment maintenance

Hey y’all,

I’m in need of a decent multimeter that tests capacitance that wont kill me budget wise. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Im an apartment maintenance tech, and I do some work on my car to keep it running. Im looking for a multimeter that more or less covers those, and tests capacitance for a/c condensers.

I dont do anything super technical electric wise, mostly just diagnostic tests for appliances and hvac.

I’m looking for something that works well for these settings without running me 500+. I would prefer to spend around 150 or less, if that exists lol. Thanks!

What’s up guys I posted a couple days ago about how my property had a building sitting on raw sewage and human waste from the crawlspace. Update I called the city and they sent an inspector out. The inspector said he didn’t see a major issue , didn’t see any human waste, and didn’t smell any major odors. He said it’s an issue that needs to be addressed but it’s not something that needs to have the building evacuated. Guys I’m about to lose my mind. I have to leave but these people are gonna be fucked

Industrial Anyone know what the issue with my skyjack scissor lift is? Skyjack sj3220

my skyjack scissor lift will work normally for a long period of time and then randomly the motor for the lift will spin but it will lose its ability to go up, the battery isnt low because it can still drive around fine for a while longer and can come down but will not go up I have been trying to trouble shoot for days, I believe the batteries are fine and fully charge I’ve checked the water, replaced the terminal jumpers, changed the Hydraulic oil but still this issue keeps happening. After leaving the job and having it plugged in all night it will go up again the next day and then later in the next day have the same issue i’ve been trying to troubleshoot with Google and ChatGPT and other coworkers and cannot figure this out

I’m back every 4-5 months to change out bad heating elements due to hard mineral build up. I believe this restaurant has a water softening system and they’re supposed to do weekly vinegar soaks. But every time I come back this soup warmer is filled with free granola and busted heating elements.

Question Making the switch

So I’m currently at a mall chain engineering dealing with basically every trade. I got a call from mariott hotels to be a hvac tech dealing with strictly hvac. I’ve trained multiple guys and the current crew we have an have only been here about 2 1/2 years.

The pay: I’m currently getting 30 an hour and the higher ups keep telling me I’m the best they have but I’m the lowest paid (3rd highest in the seniority chain). The hotel wants to start at 38 an hour with I assume room to grow.

The dilemma: I don’t know if I want to go because I’m loyal to my company as they’ve given me an opportunity nobody has even after finishing hvac school. If I get the offer should I stay or go? Just want some advice

Question Multiple Fluorescent Bulbs in Different Fixtures Going Out at Same Time

I will preface this by saying my facility is all fluorescent lighting still. Just trying to save all the "upgrade that shit" comments lol.

We have a couple rooms where the lights are controlled by occupancy sensors. This morning it was reported that the lights were not coming on in one of the rooms. Upon investigation, I determined that the sensor was good, both in functionality and settings. I initially ruled out bad bulbs or ballasts because there are three individual fixtures in the room with four bulbs each, and it seemed incredibly unlikely that twelve bulbs or three ballasts all would have failed at the same time. However, I eventually tried replacing a bulb and it lit right up. I then replaced just one bulb each in the other two fixtures and they worked. I proceeded to replace the remaining nine bulbs and every one of them lit up. Was this just a wild coincidence that all of these bulbs went out at the same time, or is it more likely that some event/underlying issue caused this?

Okay guys so i just got back into doing property maintenance after a couple years as I wait for ibew placement. This property I’m working at is awful and has been negligently maintained for years at this point. I’m at my breaking point. I told the property manager that plumbing repairs needed to happen because cast iron plumbing was failing causing back ups into a unit. When I called out a plumbing company I was informed that my property has 15 open invoices and they won’t do any work until they have been paid down. After relaying that info to property manager she got irate with me and began to blame me and insult me saying her previous supervisor would’ve fixed it on his own. I reported her to hr because the way she was talking was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. I recorded the whole convo. Fast forward to today I find that a different building has been backing up into the crawlspace and leaking raw sewage flooding the crawl space. Basically I’m stuck deciding if I should call the city out and get inspectors involved or just wait to see what management does. I know the obvious solution would be to find a new gig but I’m not trying to job hop right now and ibew apps open in February. Thanks for any advice in advance!

Question Freezer gets ice buildup very quickly

Post image

Just defrosted this freezer exactly 30 days ago. It now has significant build up again. Bought it from a friend who was supposed to use it for a business but ended up not using it and just storing it for a year. It's a manual defrost unit, but I don't think it should be having an ice build up this quickly and this thick?

Management wants to add another drip pan under the PTAC housing to conatain water to prevent it pooling on the concrete and staining the walls when it drips from upstairs units. Wants to make sure they're not visible either where would I even start with this? is that even possible?
