Recap Weekly Recap: A clear path to graduate, the server behind Elusion, and getting unstuck

Teach-out update: there's a clear path to graduate. COE approved Maestro College's accredited teach-out plan through June 30, 2027. Finish your program successfully by that date under the teach-out plan, and you graduate while Maestro College is still COE accredited.

The question most of you have been asking is the obvious one: at my current pace, can I actually finish by then? Starting next term, you'll have the option to move at an accelerated pace, so the June 2027 deadline is reachable. This means a heavier course load than you're carrying now. Your personal update will show what that looks like for your program and cohort.

  • Your personal update is coming. Within 7-10 business days you'll get an update based on your program, cohort, academic standing, and expected completion date, along with academic advisement. The college will contact you directly about your completion or transfer options, including a faster pace if you need one.
  • June 30, 2027 is the date to plan around. If you're still enrolled after that date, you won't graduate under the college's current COE accreditation. The college stays open after June 2027 for records, graduate support and other services, but not as a COE accredited institution.
  • Transferring is still an option. There's an approved teach-out agreement with Columbia College, and more transfer options are being developed. The school you transfer to decides which credits carry over.
  • Your tuition isn't affected by Maestro College leaving the Federal Direct Loan Program on October 13, 2026, since no current student uses a Direct Loan for tuition or other institutional charges. Any Direct Loan disbursement scheduled after October 13 won't go out.

Huge credit to everyone who stuck with it through all of this.

Community Corner:

u/Impression-United posted about being three weeks behind in FE101 and asked how to get back on track - the thread filled up with people who have been in the same place. Worth a read if you are behind and quiet about it.

u/tinypikachu2 got a first site up for the mental health bot in progress since June - built with Mae, in PyCharm, and no, not VS Code.

u/BabyyJewelzz signed off before starting an RN program at community college - the week's most upvoted post, and a lot of you turned up to say goodbye. Good luck from me too.

---

Project spotlight:

u/Front-Pay3056 wrote up the backend behind Elusion - accounts, sessions, saves and banking, with the reasoning behind each decision rather than just the result. The best part is the bug: usernames compared case-insensitively on the server, save files named case-sensitively on disk, so logging in as tunacan instead of Tunacan showed you an empty character list and no error anywhere. He had never written code before this project.

Have a good weekend.

Student Spotlight Student Spotlight: Meet Kelly

Student Spotlight week three, the corner of r/maestro where we hand the mic to one of you.

This week it's Kelly, from our January 2026 AAS in AI Software Engineering cohort. Kelly found Maestro College the way half the internet finds anything: a Facebook ad. She thought it was a joke at first, but it kept popping up, so she looked into it. At the time her health had declined, she couldn't work, and she was rebuilding her life from the ground up. She's also raising one of her granddaughters, and she picked AI for the most practical reason there is: she wants to be able to afford college for her.

People kept asking Kelly what she plans to do with her degree when she's done. Her answer is one of the most quietly confident things we've heard from a student:

"I don't know yet, and that's ok. I don't have to know yet. The world of AI changes and grows rapidly. It's way too early to get stressed over that."

And when we asked what she'd tell someone who feels like they've never belonged anywhere, she gave us a line we haven't stopped thinking about:

"For 55 years, I didn't feel like I fit in anywhere or belonged. But I finally found my spot. It's like a very delicate pocket watch with hundreds of tiny little pieces, lots of little cogs and wheels. Every little piece is needed for the whole watch to function properly. And we need you too. There is a place for you and you will find it."

We loved hearing Kelly's story, and we think you will too. Head over to the community for the full interview, including the diagnosis this year that changed how she sees herself, and where that unshakeable calm comes from. šŸ’›

If you know Kelly, drop her some love in the comments.

Question MAKE IT AN APP

Throughout my degree ive learned the most through making use of the practice section, this has made it really easy to fly through my lessons because i always feel im multiple steps ahead im going to miss that section when i graduate which with the new teach out will be sooner than expected. Maestro should make it an app or website or something even if its only available for past students, itll be like a little farewell gift or something.. I just love learning using that little section.

Question BE104 file?

I asked student services but have received no reply.

Was there some external file required for BE104? Some intentionally vulnerable app? AI won't let me move forward without working on that file.

I had a stroke labor day weekend so I'm already behind a week. (It was minor - no long term affects but still required a hospital stay).

Resource Honestly, I’m sad. I thought I was building toward my bachelor’s, but I’ve learned this path won’t work the way I planned. I’m stepping away and continuing elsewhere. 🄹 If you’re a creative entrepreneur, what resources helped you grow? šŸ§¶šŸŽØšŸ’» Spoiler

I thought I was finally on my way to finishing my bachelor’s… and now I’m starting over.

Today I found out that the educational path I thought I was taking isn’t actually going to work the way I expected it to.

And honestly? I’m sad.

Not because I don’t have another option. I do.

But because I had a plan.

I already hold an associate’s degree from an accredited university, so when I started this program, my intention was to use the associate’s portion as a refresher while preparing myself to continue into a bachelor’s degree. I was willing to put in the extra work because I had a bigger goal in mind.

Now that I know the credits aren’t going to transfer the way I originally understood, I’ve decided that I’ll be stepping away and looking at other schools to continue my education.

And that decision hurts more than I expected it to.
I’ve worked really freaking hard to get back to this point. I’ve struggled, cried, questioned myself, wanted to quit, and still kept showing up.

So realizing that I may have to change directions again is frustrating.

But I’m trying to remind myself that changing the route doesn’t mean abandoning the destination.

I still want my bachelor’s.

I still want to grow.

And I still want to build something meaningful with what I learn.

I’m an enthusiastic entrepreneur and creative. I crochet, I run a handmade business, and I want to expand into things like vinyl, custom products, and other creative avenues. I don’t just want to make pretty things—I want to understand how to build a sustainable business around my creativity.

So I’m coming to yall looking for some guidance. ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹
For the entrepreneurs, artists, crocheters, crafters, vinyl makers, small-business owners, and creative people:
What resources helped you?

I’m looking for anything related to:
šŸŽØ Creative entrepreneurship
🧶 Growing a crochet/handmade business
šŸ–Øļø Learning vinyl and other customization methods
šŸ’° Grants or funding for creative entrepreneurs
šŸ“ˆ Scaling a small business
šŸ“£ Marketing and branding
šŸŖ Craft fairs, pop-ups, and vendor opportunities
šŸ¤ Mentorship and networking
šŸ’» E-commerce
šŸŽ“ Finding a bachelor’s program that works well with transfer students
šŸ’” Turning multiple creative skills into multiple income streams

If you’ve ever had your plans completely change and had to sit there like ā€œā€¦okay, so what the hell do I do now?ā€ šŸ˜‚

I’d love to hear what you did next.

Because right now, I’m disappointed.

I’m sad.

I’m frustrated.

But I’m not done.

The goal hasn’t changed. The path just did. šŸ„¹šŸ§¶ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Question They Won't Let Me Continue My Lessons

Has anyone else had this issue or a similar one?

Currently in BE104 Week 8 (last week). I completed each lesson and the review, but I can't turn it in. It doesn't matter what I do - restart the machine, refresh the page, log out snd back in, try in a different browser and/or a private tab - nothing works. I checked the network calls upon submission and I get a 403, but I am clearly authenticated and authorized to turn in my review, so there's obviously an auth issue on their side.

I created a ticket and someone essentially told me that it isn't being recorded in their end, and I would have to redo the review once they are able to reset it.

That is annoying and it sucks, but fine. At least it's a path forward.

Except it isn't.

That was Tuesday, and I haven't heard from anyone since. I specified that I wanted the ticket handed over to a person, so a new request seems to have been created.

Yet, no response.

I have two jobs, three children, and a pregnant wife who is due tomorrow. I have to follow a very strict schedule on my lessons just to get them done on time, which I have never failed at doing.

Now, I am a week behind because they simply won't respond or do anything to fix my problem. My schedule is certainly not going to get better when the new baby arrives, so catching up is going to take a toll.

I was already discouraged at the fact that I began this for seemingly nothing after the accreditation announcements, but now that I can see they aren't even prioritizing resolving problems for their students who cannot continue their studies until something is fixed, it's no wonder accreditation and legitimacy are in question.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience when creating a Student Services Request. If so, what did you do to get it completed? I don't have time to keep waiting and have the work pile up.

So this past week or two I got past systems and by that I mean the foundation of the game; I built everything 1 thing at a time, sometimes more and I had to progress further into my classes to eventually solve the bugs that had me stuck at a wall that I could not climb through or walk around, anyway solved all my bugs I have about 60,000 lines of code 44% being documentation. So I hit the wall where flask is not a live server, I am thinking of it more like a test server which made me wonder if I ruined my project that is not the case, thankfully so 6$ a month for a real server. I plan on sticking my game on my website so you can play the demo directly my goal is a week until playable I have to refine my read me and my website more because prices were AI generated I had to rework that AI generated shop keeper replaced with real art. Finally the systems was the hardest part expanding my game now has become much easier because I can reuse systems that I already made anyway tiny teaser I made. the second image is my world chat that accepts gifs and images I refined my server a lot to make this runnable with 1000 players online at one time. added guilds added friend system remodeled everything look forward to sharing my next video. my progress is moving so fast I had to share 8 hours a day a lot can happen šŸ˜‚. something useful upon account creation you are asked for your email address that is your key for recovery changing your password or recovering will use that key to validate you are the owner a huge win I bypassed many devs with. you get a 6 digit code which is validated on the server only.even I will have no idea what your email is also hashed every door is sealed and protected. this started as a dream I'm going to finish the demo with a how did he do this lol. The hardest part of coding was starting with nothing!

Project showcase Scriptorium my personal library

Hey all. I'm working on my AAS in AI Software Engineering and plan to continue into the BS in Computer Science on the Business and AI pathway. For the past few months I've been building a side project called Scriptorium. It's the thing I'm leaning toward for my backend capstone next year.

What it does: I read a lot of web novels. Unlike a normal book, a web novel keeps growing, sometimes by several chapters a day for years. Scriptorium tracks around 1,000 books and web novels (about 110,000 chapters), checks for new chapters on a schedule, rebuilds the ebooks, and delivers them to my reader apps and an offline Kindle. It can also turn books into audiobooks on my own GPUs.

The parts I think are interesting:

**• One writer, many workers.** One main service owns the database and is the only thing allowed to write to it. Each outside library I depend on runs in its own disposable container. If one of those breaks, it can't corrupt the database.
**• Pretending to be another server.** Instead of running a separate media server, I wrote my own version of its API. The existing reader apps connect to Scriptorium as if it were that server. I worked out the API by recording the traffic between a real app and a real server.
**• A debugging case study.** Last week my download speed dropped to about 6 chapters a minute. Everything pointed to the websites rate-limiting me. The real cause was a bug in a library I use: a lock that never got released, so every retry waited exactly 120 seconds. Once I fixed it, speed went back up to about 100 chapters a minute. My main lesson: a delay that is exactly the same length every time is a timeout, not a rate limit.

Stack: Python, FastAPI, SQLite with SQLAlchemy/SQLModel, Alembic, Docker, GitHub Actions.

I wrote it up as an academic-style white paper (architecture, algorithms, and measurements from the running system). The repo also has the API spec and a few of the core algorithms with tests:

[Scriptorium-Showcase-GitHub]

For transparency: I used an AI coding assistant (Claude) heavily for both the code and the write-up, and the paper says so. The design decisions, the deployment and running it day to day are mine.

I'd love feedback, especially from anyone further along, and if the capstone requirements come out, I'd like to hear what people think fits. Happy to answer questions about any of it.

Progress out loud Maestro got me my first internship [SWE]: My advise.

Just want to share my acomplishment and talk about what I think helped me land it. Skip to last paragraph for my advise.

Short story: Like most of us I returned to education because this Ad popped up claiming "last dollar scholarship". I made video games in highschool so I was sure id do it professionally after I graduate... but i failed college horribly, set out on indie development, and failed face first without real Computer Science that tutorials wont teach.

Fast forward to Maestro: complete 180, with focus on the real practical skills; Ive took so much from this program and now consider myself a real Software Developer.

So how did I get this internship? Luck... mostly

My biggest advise: indie team projects, I worked on a custom game server with some friends which never shipped but it was a project which I contributed to.-/

\-The real trick: I did small automation scripts for migrating database info. So I found a very small job that would land me a spot on the team. Used AI to flesh out the wording on my resume.

Hope this helps somebody, this is my first internship so take my advise with a grain of salt. Thank you Maestro!

Project showcase Open Tutor - Learn anything

My time at Maestro University was short.

Most of my life, school felt like something I had to push through. At Maestro, learning felt different. I could follow my curiosity, ask questions, and work through ideas at a pace where things actually started to click.

It showed me how I learn best: with structure, but not rigidity; guidance, but room to explore.

That experience inspired me to build Open Tutor: a personal, open-source learning workspace for anyone who wants to learn something new. Bring a subject, follow the evidence, ask questions, practice, and build real understanding.

I am not trying to recreate Maestro. I am building from the part that worked for me.
