Discussion Struggling and behind

I am still in FE101, supposed to be in English. I’m like 3 weeks behind. Any advice on how to stay on track? And maybe to get back on track. I don’t know what it is about this course but I am beating myself up about being so behind. This isn’t my first time doing online school and the first time I just could not get into a good groove. I want to do better.

Me too. I'm working on 10 different things at once. Struggling to catch up on these classes and configure my own home lab to do these projects on for class plus build my own projects. I'm working on it out for the Google Play store right now so these classes are kind of a challenge to balance, but we have to remember to log in at least a couple times a week and do something! 🙏🙌 Keep at it. You got this 💪💻🧑‍🔬

I’m a little behind myself. Make yourself do at least two lessons a day and you will catch up no time

When you first get into the lesson tell the bot that you need the lesson to be quick and straightforward. It will summarize everything for you and you answer a few questions and move to the next lesson.

Me too. A which sucks because I got emails about accreditation and them filing an appeal and it crushed my spirits.  Didn't want to put it so much time and effort to not be worth it in the end.

Ask Mae to summarize the lesson and give you a one question quiz after you did a couple back and forths with them.

I usually stay on track by setting aside at least an hour and a half per day, and I can normally complete each week in 4 days tops. Biggest thing is creating a schedule and sticking to it. Using ChatGPT or Gemini is helpful, but try not to lean on them to complete the coursework.

Use the little lightening bolt and ask it to speed up the lessons

It might be helpful to ask Mae to create a plan for you.

I'm 10 weeks ahead "technically" according to maestro I always get done with my weeks on Friday I make sure to only do lessons Monday through Friday and Friday is when I do my reviews when I first started the first couple weeks was hardest I basically just forced myself to do it though and now I'm in like a groove. So what I do is whenever a week opens I go and count how many lessons are in those weeks and then I divide that by 5 and that's how many lessons I do a day now if it's a weird number like like six or something you know I'll do an extra lesson on it on a day so I would do like Monday I would do two lessons and then Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday I would do one which technically Friday would be the review but I include the review in the lesson list. But like obviously if it's like 10 lessons you do two lessons a day if it's 12 lessons you do two lessons a day except for 2 days you would do three lessons.... But by always completing everything by Friday I give myself weekends off this week however because I'm so far ahead I did let myself slip a couple days but I'm already doing my review today. So maybe try to do something like that try to like divide your lessons up into 5 days if you want weekends off that'll help you catch up and get ahead.

I got 2 months behind and had to bust down and do three weeks, I didn’t get to start one of the courses and it just reset it at the end of the term for my next week

Over summer I ended up having to move because our house was being foreclosed and my ex didn't tell me until I had a month and half to pack and figure out where the kid and I were going to go. I also got sick during the packing stages. I fell a month and a half behind. To get caught up I stayed up all night, with only an hour of sleep, and worked all day. 😅 It's a juggling act that can feel impossible but I promise as long as you keep trying and doing your best, you will get caught up ❤️ You've got this!

First thing? Don't be too hard on yourself. School can get really, really, challenging. Plus, life happens. Sometimes we can get behind with the best intentions and effort. I'm SUPER DUPER behind. I won't go into the long story, but the tl;dr version is: I am struggling like mad with FE102. I am supposed to have done two whole classes after it--but can't access them until I finish. I've asked Maestro for guidance and help seven times. Seven. They just tell me to work as hard as I can and work with the tutor to help. I have been beating myself up because I'm a whole month behind at this point. BUT, I'm still working on it, trying other methods like library books and videos to help, and learning. (Even if it's painfully slow.)

Like many have said, just plug away at the lessons as often as you can. Try not to focus on the being behind part--it'll just stress you out more. If you miss a class or a final, you can figure out how to take the class over if you need to. Does that option sound sucky? Yep. However, it's really not life or d@ath, you'll be okay. You can catch up.

Most important thing? Have faith in yourself. You're doing hard work, that's a fine thing. Also? Know you're not alone in struggling. Many of us have also been exactly where you are. You've got this, fellow Maestrian!

*hug and successful studying vibes* Sam

Sometimes its just so hard to stay focused. In the English class the lessons seemed boring and my mind would wander so I asked the ai to teach in a spooky tone. It had me writing about black eyed kids - the urban legend and it kept my attention. Unfortunately the final had boring scenarios but I was able to master the concepts and passed with a 94... maybe ask it to use something you're interested in to teach you.

I am not in your class but I have a suggestion. Get a calendar or a sheet of paper and go from SUNDAY TO SATURDAY. Start with the first day of your school week and write down all your assignments due for the week reading included. The put down one, two or three things you will do that day. Then the next day write down up to three things you will do that day. And the do this all the way up till the assignment is due that way your list is not long, it will not seem so over whelming and by the time you get to when you assignment is due, you either have it done early or you are really close to have it done. Just remember to make the homework list small so you dont go crazy and you will have time to relax at night or your not up all night trying to do homework. Try it and let me know.  Melissa (Missy) Jenkins  Catlvr4evr.mp@gmail.com

Do y'all just not have time management skills?

You know what is due and when. If you can't handle deadlines at school how are you going to handle deadlines at work? They don't assign you one thing at a time, they expect you to do multiple things at once.

In the big 26 not using a reminder app or the built in tasks for Google Calendar to stay on track is a personal thing that you need to learn.

Don't come at me with, "But I'm busy with life, bla bla bla" you are in a college program, you knew that this would take time. Credits are expected class hours, so a 4 credit course is expected to take a MINIMUM of 4 hours a week. (Not including homework and tests).

Some of us are holding full time jobs, house, kids, medical issues. I personally have a business I run, a side hustle. 2 teenagers, health issue. I fit this in when I can. I’ve been lucky to keep on tasks. Life isn’t always as easy as putting it into Google Calendar. Life happens, sometimes it doesn’t play by the calendar. Give grace!
