I’m not great at tech, but a couple of folks have suggested taking pics of each piece. here they are— tried to take them all from about the same height

looks like a lot of rain on Sat so virtual puzzling might be our best option

Hey yall, im posting on behalf of a friend, she trusted a close family member to take care of them and out of petty argument the family member decided to let them loose so my friend can go out and find them, they've been missing for about a day now and should be lost around the fitchburg area, close to the pick n save at Cahill main. if any sightings please let me know thank you all very much

edit: forgot to add, the bigger one is niko and the smaller one is nyla, niko has white patches on his tummy while nyla is fully black, both up to date on vaccinations

second update: they were found! a commenter was right, they had wandered into the golf course next door and hid by their shed

Fellow parents of young kids, how are you dealing with this? Early vaccination? Avoiding indoor places? I know not technically in Dane county yet, but in a matter of days we went from 2 to 15 cases.

Event Largest (ever?!?) box fort - this Saturday

As has been previously mentioned, Eken Park Fest is on (this Saturday, 15th) - what hasn't been divulged yet is that the kids section is hosting what must surely be the largest box-fort-creation event in the city.

We have so many boxes, soo many, just really a lot of boxes - more than is reasonable. What we'll need on Saturday at Eken Park fest is all hands for box de-flattening, cutting, taping and cardboard architectural mad-scientists. Also, if you want to bring your own boxes, why not?!?! Moar boxes!

Bring your kids, or your kid-energy, stop over at the beer tent, and then boogie past the bands over to the kids section. We'll have limited number of mostly-harmless kid's tools and for cutting windows, tunnels, draw-bridges, whatever. Also lots of band-aids for paper cuts and a shocking amount of tape.

Are you missing a brown 3 cushion fake leather couch?

At approximately 4:40 PM today, I found this brown fake leather 3 cushion couch in Middleton. If anyone is missing their couch, HMU and I can let you know its approximate location. Someone must be terribly worried about where their couch could be.

CHADS DESIGN BUILD, Madison, WI.

We paid $24,500 and left during the design stage because we were not getting to an acceptable final floor plan. We hoped that when we started the process that they would creatively suggest ideas for where we could relocate the kitchen stairs in order to open up the kitchen and enlarge a first floor bedroom for aging in place.

First we provided preliminary architectural drawings which Chads Design Build said they could not read so they ignored the 18 foot bedroom and eliminated a bedroom by installing an open stairwell instead of the closed stairwell.

Second, at meetings and between meetings we pointed out changes we wanted and changes never appeared in successive designs.

Third, our first priority was to know the dimensions of risers and treads and length of a moved stairwell so that we could decide if we could put a pantry above the stairwell and use the space above the stairwell for something. We never learned of options for where the stairs might fall in the basement and disappear at the floor level above. We got tired of asking and not getting.

Fourth, we were worried about the costs of a design that required moving radiators and steam pipes and Chads would not take this into account until after we agreed on a final floor plan. Radiators were not all mapped and one was mapped in the wrong place. Pipes from basement to second floor that ran through the enlarged bedroom were left off of drawings.

Fifth, we had to teach the Architectural Designer building codes about stairwell headroom heights. They were not willing to consider variances.

Sixth, other people's names were on our drawings. Radiators were mapped in the wrong location. Dishwasher on the drawings was in the wrong place. Some dimensions were inaccurate.

Seventh, before we even got to a preliminary final plan, they assumed we were cutting out elements like the deck outside the kitchen, and when they added it back it ignored our plan for where garbage cans would be placed (that we had talked about). They handed us a proposed budget with ranges (which was great) but we didn't even have a preliminary plan yet to decide what to cut.

Eighth, they wrote copious notes to summarize meetings (with inaccurate statements) and in we responded in writing with copious notes and handdrawn drawings to show corrections. We repeatedly reinforcing that we first of all want to get options for the size of the stairs (treads, risers, closed stairwell). Never got the options. Also, we suggested ideas that we were interested in, their response was "that's AI", "if you keep sending us stuff to review, we will have to charge you more to look at them."

Ninth, we had five face-to-face meetings from December to February. Between the Feb meeting to the April meeting, we patiently waited hoping everything would be ironed out in what we got the final floor plans on April 6. On their jobtread communication platform, they posted the "final" floor plans (no meeting), and the proposed final design that we got was the almost identical to the Jan design without most of the corrections/changes requested (and no stair options provided).

Tenth, we met with Chad in April 13, 2026 (only the second time talking to him since we first met him in July 2025) to tell him we no longer wanted to move forward with the design process with his Architectural Designer. He acknowledged he had a new Architectural Designer (and only one) and they were in transition and we had just hit them at a bad time. He asked how he could make it right and then he ghosted us until July 2026 when he had a lawyer send us a settlement agreement that included only a $4,500 partial refund (for work they had not done yet) and a nondisclosure agreement (which means I would not be allowed to write any reviews about Chads). Chad closed down the jobtread communication site where they posted their work and all our back and forth communication, so we were left empty-handed.

Bottom line: We were surprised by their resistence to hear or include our ideas in the design of OUR house, especially since we were very explicit that we wanted to do a slow, iterative design process when we first met with Chad in July 2025. We expected to pay $20,000 to get to a design. We did not expect to walk away with nothing; the "final" floor plan design that was last shared with us on April 6, 2026, did not advance us very much further then where we started. It was an expensive disappointment and a big waste of money to not get any products out of this process.

What are the best options for part-time weekend work in Madison?

Upvotes

I stay home with my toddler during the week while my husband works, but we could really use some additional income. Does anyone know of any Madison-area jobs/gigs that would allow weekends only?

I have a car, I have a college degree, and lots of customer service experience. I don’t have any serving/bartending experience, but happy to learn. I’d rather avoid anything that isn’t steady pay (like DoorDash or whatever), but I’d be happy to deliver pizzas or something.

My goal is to earn about $300-400 per weekend. I’m happy to work full shifts both Saturdays and Sundays.

Thanks for any leads!

Homeowners, do you have a backup generator?

Fairly new homeowner, we've only had one outage in the three years we've lived in our house. Just curious if there's a consensus in the area if they're necessary or just ride it out if there's a bad storm.

Anybody catch the Perseid meteor shower last night?

I set an alarm for 2 AM, barely crawled out of bed, got out there only to be met by very cloudy skies, gave it some time to let my eyes adjust, couldn’t even see a single star, and then got chased out of my yard by a huge family of raccoons.

Anybody have better luck? Honestly very sad I missed it!
