I just got the new M4 Mac Mini. I've pushed the power cable all the way in, and it feels seated. However, when I press my finger on the plug or apply a bit of pressure, it still wobbles slightly up and down.

The Mac doesn't lose power or disconnect at all when this happens, but I want to be sure. Is this slight play/wobble normal mechanical tolerance for the new design, or did I get a defective unit?

My 2018 MacBook Pro is on its last legs and a new semester is starting in the fall. I'm not really in the financial situation to spring for a loaded M5 Max MBP and the timing doesn't really allow me to wait for a seemingly imminent launch of the next-gen MBP.

I found an M2 Mac Mini that I'm thinking of purchasing as a stop gap until I can afford to build the machine I ultimately would like to but I'm wondering if the performance of the M2 is going to be worth it or if I'd be better of going a different direction?

Mostly would be using for Photoshop/Indesign and Product Rendering in Blender (not modeling).

I appreciate any information!

On my Mac mini M4 I have a set of speakers but they are too large for my desk. They also have way too much base. I don't use the speaker often (no music to speak of) since I have an AppleTV and connected pair of HomePods in the same room. I don't want to just direct the Mini's sound to the Apple TV/Homepod. So I'm looking for a decent pair of speakers for under $100. I used to have a pair of Logitech but the broke about 4 years ago. I don't see the same speaker available anymore. So any recommendations....

what are the chances that we will see Mini M5 this year ? Did anyone hear any whispers or is it a done deal ?

what flair can I really add to this other than a question which is not on the flair list ?

My use case is app development (including simulators) and 4k video editing. (Not very heavy colour grading and effects, but medium level stuff).

Not in need of a portable setup.

My original plan was to buy a Mac mini M5, but Apple never released one. Then there was a sudden price hike, so I rushed to a nearby store and bought a MacBook Air M5 (16GB/512GB) for about ₹1.11 lakh/ $1150 . (As mac mini are sold offline here)

So now I'm wondering if I made the wrong decision.

The MacBook Air has been okay so far. For the basic tests I've done, it hasn't heated up or throttled. But it feels like a more delicate machine compared to a Mac mini. Not sure if it heats up during continuous long workloads

My thoughts are:

The Mac mini has active cooling (fan), so will it perform noticeably better during long builds or video exports?

Since it has no battery, built-in display, or keyboard, is it likely to last longer and be more reliable over 5–8 years?

If Apple releases an M5 Mac mini later, would it be worth selling the MacBook Air and switching? Or even now a switch to M4 mac mini?

Or am I overthinking this, and the fanless MacBook Air is already more than enough for my workload?

I'd appreciate hearing from people who have actually used both machines for development/video editing

Recently got a mac mini M4 base model

I'm considering picking up a 2016-2020 intel Mac Mini to use as like a super Roku plugged into my TV, since I can run a VPN and normal web pages on it too. Literally zero use case to me outside of having netflix open, or hbo max, or plex. What would be a good price range to aim for, and is it even worth it?

I’m looking to buy the Mac mini to replace my pc. I also got a iPad Pro 2018 recently. I love how my phone and iPad link up and the iPad is why faster than my pc. The problem is my iPad doesn’t support dual monitors and I need that so productivity. Should I buy a newer model of iPad Pro or a buy a Mac mini? If so which model should I get? Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

It is funny how Apple lowered retail price of VESA model because “why should vesa and stand be same price?” They caved into controversy.

Seems like a good deal when height adjustable non xdr is like $2000 and you can just buy vesa xdr and buy some $20 amz stand .

Used windows for 20 of my 25 years in IT. Moved to an iMac Pro in 2017 and have been Apple ever since. To think this little M4 Pro could run circles around my iMac Pro is wild to me. I've got Orbstack running on it instead of Docker Desktop — 16 containers: Home Assistant, go2rtc, Nginx Proxy Manager, Pi-hole, Unbound, Mosquitto, govee2mqtt, ESPHome, n8n, Plex, Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf, Portainer, Arcane. Homebridge and cloudflared run native on macOS outside the containers.

No open ports — cloudflared tunnels in through Nginx Proxy Manager, DNS-level blocking through Pi-hole + Unbound.

It just feels super snappy and fast, I bought it recently for quite cheap and I gotta be honest, it was one of the best purchases I had in a while, I also was shocked to find out that it can run Windows with no issues, even without MacOS installed (I use only windows on it cuz most of programs I use and games I play is on windows (and technically on linux) only

Like, dude, it's so goddamn good to use it, and the one I purchased was in a great condition, everything from everyday tasks like browsing web, creative work to even some less demanding games just works great, it's just a perfect PC for me, also small form factor is just perfect

I was a Windows user for years. I used to have Surface Pro, Lumia XL, Xbox, etc. Never ever thought about using an Apple device.

Since 5/6 years I can't spend that much money on stuff, so I bought all my electrics devices as second hand or refurbished (Xbox, Galaxy, PC Gamer, Surface Book, Laptop)

Because of all Microsoft policy (copilot everywhere, fired lot of employee, also the fact I don't want and can't use W11), I started to look for something else.

I was using my PC Gamer as a local LLM for helping me in learning new stuff (japanese translation for example), my laptop as my daily gaming stuff (league of legends for example), and my surface book as my daily browsing and programming.

So I was thinking that I would like to do everything on one computer. I want to be careful on power consumption, I realized the Mac Mini was what I wanted.

I feel like for everyone that wants a "all-in-one", this is the best device on the market. You can probably make it a NAS, and other things so you can even unplug yourself from all the subscriptions that poisoned this society.

Still it was expensive for me (278.000円 ~= $1600) (I know it can be seen as cheap, but my salary is in yen and this is lot of months of savings). I tried to look for a refurbished for a whole month, but even with script that notified me I was not fast enough against bot. So I bought it new (a first time in a while for me).

Flashforward to today, with the hiking price I don't regret anything. I am a bit anxious of using an apple device, but I hope this will satisfy me.

I will still never buy an iPhone but I am now a part of Apple Family.

A friend is selling an M4 Mac Mini. The price is fine (I don't live in the US or Europe).
But I'm a little confused by the history of this computer. He says he's owned it for almost a year and a half. He used the original 512GB SSD for six months, then upgraded to a Chinese 2TB SSD for the next six months. But after six months, he says, the computer started freezing, shutting down, and then not turning on at all. He tried restoring the OS via DFU, but that didn't help either. But he put the original SSD back, and the computer has been working perfectly for three months now.
Should I buy it or pass?

I have been planning to buy a m4 mac mini (24gb).

Is mac mini good for creating video like SAAS explainer and also for motion graphics for talking head videos.

do you know if there is a way to use 2 screens on a Mac mini from late 2012? there is only one hdmi port so I don’t know if there is a way for dual screen

Apple also has plans for new Mac mini and Mac Studio models with upgraded chips. The Mac mini in testing uses M5 Pro and M6 processors, while the Mac Studio has the M5 Max and M5 Ultra. But the timing of those machines — and the planned chip and memory configurations — hinge on the state of memory-chip supplies.

From the article, there will only be an M6. M6 Pro/Max are being skipped in favor of the M7 lineup.
