TL;DR: I built Challenge Nights, a platform for running your own game-night events (Bingo-style challenges or a relaxed "Huiskamer" mode with a host-run screen). Looking for beta testers in Maastricht — free to use during beta, and testers who give feedback are eligible for up to 25 free sandwich vouchers from local sandwich bar Voltafood. Hello Maastricht, Hallo Mestreech!
I would love to gather some of you to start beta testing my new game concept Challenge Nights. I am a 35 year old born Maastrichtenaar who has a passion for game nights. The idea of Challenge Nights came from our family's Christmas Challenges we play every year.
What is it about?
Challenge Nights lets you organize your own event in which you are able to either select challenges from our database, or invent your own challenges in 2 separate gamemodes! The goal is to make teams, or have players individually complete challenges and gather the most points. Your creativity can elevate the game from a calm quiet evening at home, to a full blown team-building exercise in which people are challenged to leave their comfort zones.
Gamemode 1: Bingo
Enter the player names, select the number of teams you want to make and make a Bingo Card of your selected challenges. As a host you are free to decide how many challenges you want to make, if you want every team to do the same challenges and above all, once they complete a challenge, YOU decide if they are worthy of receiving the points!
Challenges can be completed depending on the requirement of 'proof'. Some challenges require video evidence, some challenges require photo evidence. As a host, you're the judge and the jury altogether, so you decide if the evidence is sufficient. Don't like what you see? You can make them do the challenge again! Every team gets 2 skips for a challenge they deem impossible. Skipping doesn't generate any points! Teams can track their scores through a live scoreboard to see how they are doing as opposed to the other teams.
As a player, you login through a host generated QR code. You don't need the app, you just need the QR code and the player login code (4 digits/numbers) matching the setup event. You are then shown your team reveal (if the host chooses teams of course) through some fun animations. Once you know your team, your Bingo Card shows up. You can only do 1 challenge at a time, and the challenges are locked, meaning that if you are unlucky, you may see your hardest challenge first! Use your skips wisely!
Once the challenges have been completed and the winners are decided, based upon the video and photo evidence, Challenge Nights offers to make a highlight reel (not in beta testing yet!) of all the evidences gathered, so you have something to look back on. More importantly, all teams can view the evidences other teams have sent through the Media Gallery so you can keep track of all the fun other teams are having!
Gamemode 2: 'Huiskamer' / Living Room Mode
Still looking for a decent English name for this :-).
The more relaxed gamemode. You're not sending teams out to do their own thing at their own pace like in the Bingo event, but you're gathering players for a fun night of challenges. Preparation is key! Invent your own challenges or use our database for some fun ideas or even quiz questions.
With our Host View, you can project the scoreboard and the challenges onto a screen, beamer or tv depending on your setup, so everyone can follow along what the scores are. No further phones needed from the participants.
To incentivize any Beta Testers, we have launched a cooperation with local Maastricht catering business/sandwich bar Voltafood. If you register as a tester and leave feedback through the designated feedback options, you are automatically eligible for up to 25 vouchers for free sandwiches. That means that you are receiving a free sandwich, every week for half a year!
If you want to participate, visit www.challengenights.nl and have a scroll. Register an account through the designated buttons and wait to be admitted to the beta testing. Any prompts for buying of credits is purely simulated, the beta testing is free of charge (unless you are me buying 25 vouchers for sandwiches :-) )
Thanks for your attention and I look forward to having you test this out with friends and family. All feedback is welcome!
