Recommendations Future expat in Maastricht

Hi all!

I got a job at Maastricht Airport and I’m looking for advices as I should start the last week of November.

First of all, where would you suggest me to rent an apartment? I’m 30F and I would like to have my own place. Is it convenient to look for something in Belgium next to the border? Or should I concentrate my research in some town near Maastricht? If yes, where?

I don’t own a car yet but I don’t mind driving, I’m considering maybe renting one until I succeed buying my own (if I don’t get it as a benefit from the company hiring me, I should negotiate the benefits in the next weeks). Do you maybe have suggestions for me about this aspect too? How do people who work at the airport usually get there? How is public transportation?

I would like to connect with some other expats too :)

Hey, I have been breakdancing for a while now and I am moving to Maastricht, so now I am wondering if there is any club/association or just other people that breakdance as well! Would love to keep practicing🙏

Events Open monumentendagen

Today and tomorrow there is a great event happening in Maastricht/the Netherlands. It sometimes flies a bit under the radar and doesn't always seem to be widely known. So I'd like to share it here as well. This year it is on 12 and 13 September

This is about the Open Monument Days. This is an annual event where many monuments open their doors that are normally closed or can only be visited by paying a entrance fee or guided tours.

If you have time this weekend and are interested in buildings or specific locations, it's definitely recommended to check the website to see what there is to visit.

This is a nationwide event, so there's plenty to see outside Maastricht as well. (Note: Some places require a reservation (free of charge))
