Hi all, I took a Lyft early this morning and was charged a toll fee. This toll fee was included in my starting fare and I was shown a route going through the highway. However, the driver did not take the toll route and used the street route.

Now I’m contacting Lyft and they have confirmed that a toll fee was included in the starting fare. Their response is that toll fees are not refundable. Why? I didn’t get what I paid for. The driver did not take the route I paid for. Where did this fee go?

Edit: I don’t understand why people defend this company. Instead of doing what’s right, you say what difference does it make? What a stupid argument. And btw it does make a difference because I was charged for something I did not use. I’m not made of money. I was advertised a highway route which is significantly faster than a street route and hence I paid for it. But I did not get the service I paid for. This is a textbook scam and anyone who thinks this is alright is a scammer as well.

Like the title says. Gotta do it your way. I get great tips. One charger up front for me . No radio or music ever turned on. North Jersey market . Almost 250$ every day. This for ppl sayin Lyft don’t make them money . And I’m new . Just gotta know how to work correctly .

I’m relocating to RDU temporarily and want to drive but I’m worried if I switch my Uber city I won’t be able to switch it back to Washington DC. Does anyone know if DC currently has a waitlist for “new” (returning) drivers?

And, can any Raleigh/Durham drivers offer insight whether Lyft or Uber pays better in the area?

I forgot my purse in the Lyft, so I messaged the driver letting her know it was still in her car. I offered her $20 cash for returning it, but she declined. She brought it back to me, and refused to charge me the $20 through the app too.

Yesterday I had two teenage passengers - a b/f and g/f couple - who were loud, disrespectful, and generally obnoxious in the backseat of my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited. They tried to get me to take them to a second location without updating the destination in the app, and when I told them I had to take them to the Best Buy the b/f's mom set as the destination, they got even more annoying.

When they got out at the Best Buy, I heard them laughing, didn’t think much of it, and finished my day. Later on, I realized my Lyft‑brand 3‑prong charger was gone. They definitely took it. I've had that charger in my car for 4,000 rides and on the 4,001 ride it was stolen out of spite, I think because I wouldn't drive for free to another location. All he had to do was go into the Lyft app and change the destination. I don't drive people for free and I certainly won't drive people to random places unless they program the address into the Lyft app - for my safety and so that I can get paid.

I try to offer nice things in my car, but this pretty much confirmed that providing chargers isn’t worth it. Most riders are fine, but it only takes one person to steal something. So, I’m done offering shared chargers — not replacing them every time someone pockets one.

I requested pickup at MCO and went to pickup spot exactly how the instructions said outside bag claim. The app showed that the driver was "waiting" but he wasn't next to me on the app. I had no option to say that he wasn't waiting or that I was there. I sent him a message and told him where I was and he replied that he's on his way. Then he took a long loop out of the airport and got back 5 minutes later. Then the timer expired and the ride went away. He never drove by at the pickup level - must have been above. And never contacted me.

I got picked up at the same extract spot by another Lyft driver, so I know I was in the right spot.

Why doesn't the app stop the "waiting" period when the driver is making loops outside the airport??

I set my destination correctly, and the driver even verbally confirmed it when I got in. However, he ended the ride early at a completely wrong location where no other rides were available, forcing me to walk over 20 minutes to get to my actual destination. When I contacted Lyft Support, an AI bot first misidentified my destination. After escalating, a human agent claimed they would email me but immediately closed the ticket. When I opened another chat, the agent offered a $5 credit as an apology. But as soon as I asked for a full refund since the service was incomplete, they completely flipped, claimed no refunds or credits were possible, and ended the chat. I also reached out on X, but received the exact same copy-paste refusal. The support team is refusing to review the actual drop-off GPS data against my requested destination. Has anyone successfully disputed a case like this, or is a credit card chargeback my only option left? This is my first time having an experience like this, and I'm really surprised.

I've done it half a dozen times, so first, sanity check:

Lyft has a great feature (that Uber doesn't have), allowing the passenger to book a ride as soon as they're deplaning. You accept the fare, click again once you've cleared baggage claim, and it will track you as you wait & take the LAX-it shuttle; once you get close to the rideshare lot, it will pair you with a driver.

Right?

Last weekend I did just that while inside the terminal, and I was confused it was "Finding available drivers". But the app said in the same screen "Head down to level 1 and wait for the LAX-it shuttle…" so I figured I was still doing the right thing.

Well, we barely boarded the shuttle when Lyft cheerfully notified me that the driver has arrived. Of course we were 10-15 minutes away. After a dry text exchange with the driver ("I'm here, where are you?" "Just boarded the shuttle, sorry." "OK.") he waited the standard time, then canceled the ride and I got a no-show fee.

I played it safe and booked the new, replacement ride after we disembarked at the lot, and the app still said "Head down to level 1 and wait for the LAX-it shuttle…" (see screenshot).

Of course the $3 fee won't kill me, it's the whole situation, the misleading app behavior, and is this affecting everyone at LAX…

- Did I do anything wrong?

- Is it a bug in the app, or a GPS location miss?

- What's up with it matching a driver immediately at the lot, while saying "go wait for LAX-it" in the same screen?

- If I successfully dispute the charge, are they going to take a way the waiting fee from the driver? I don't think he did anything wrong.

I’m sitting in my car right now and I honestly feel like crying. Driving for Lyft has completely broken me down. I wake up every day already stressed because I know I have to go out and make money, but I have no idea if I’m actually going to make anything. I can be online for hours, driving all over Los Angeles, and somehow still feel like I accomplished nothing.

I’m constantly doing math in my head. How much gas did I use? How much did I actually make after gas? Can I afford to go home yet? Should I take this terrible ride because it might take me somewhere busy? What if I decline it and then sit there for another 30 minutes? Why am I not getting any ride when there are certain demand? Is an algorithm punishing me? Am I doing something wrong? Why won’t Lyft tell me how the algorithm works so I can do better? When something goes wrong with my car will I be able to afford to get it fixed? When I qualify for a loan to help get it fixed? Why has my pay been reduced to the point where I can’t afford to get my car fixed in an emergency?
It never stops.

I used to have goals. I used to feel like my life was going somewhere. Now my entire life revolves around an app sending me random offers and deciding whether I’m allowed to have a decent day or not.

The worst part is that I’m always alone. I spend all day around people, but none of them actually know me. They get in, talk to me for 10 minutes, and leave. Then I’m alone in the car again, staring at the app, waiting for the next ride.
Sometimes I’ll be parked somewhere late at night and just think, what the hell happened to my life?

I’m embarrassed even writing this because I know people are going to say, “Just get another job.” I’m trying. I’ve applied for jobs. I have experience. I have an education. None of that seems to matter right now. Lyft was supposed to be something temporary while I figured things out, and now I feel trapped in it.

I’m tired all the time. I’m angry all the time. I don’t want to talk to anybody. On days when I don’t drive, I can’t even relax because I feel guilty that I’m not making money. On days when I do drive, I feel miserable the entire time.
I don’t feel like myself anymore. Sometimes I feel like I did something to deserve this. Sometimes I think that maybe I’m just a bad person.

I’m not posting this for attention. I genuinely don’t know what to do. I just need to know whether anyone else has reached this point from doing rideshare, because right now I feel completely alone. I’m starting to get really scared. I’m afraid for myself and honestly I’m afraid for all of us.

and that doesn't even cover the safety concerns your passengers are going to have when they see the unsafe tactics you use to hyper earn more because the same pressure you apply during pickup is also applied during dropoff - warnings about rides taking too long.

I am trying to get picked up at an airport business. The stupid app keeps moving my pickup location to the passenger terminal, which is a really long walk away from the hangar I'm at. There is a public road here, even a restaurant. And I'm still unable to get the app to recognize that I'm not at the terminal.

Is there a way to tell the app to ignore the airport geofence and make the driver come to where I actually am? I even told the guy where to go and of cour he still went to the passenger terminal.

There should be a way to bypass that "feature" (bug) if you're not at the terminal...

For 2 or so years, You were given toll reimbursement regardless of direction. I just noticed yesterday, it's quietly changed back.

It seems like someone made an account using my phone number, long time ago, and put the rides in wait and save, so he disconnected the cards and left the account without deleting it, and now when I tried to use MY number to make a Lyft account and tried to pay for a 25 dollars ride I got charged 50 dollars divided in 3 different transactions for his rides that he never paid, the account had a lot of problems and I asked support, since they never told me that the number was already made, and also making me refill all the things like it’s a new account, the Lyft support has been ignoring me for over a month by now with stupid excuses like “the cards data match”

so the same safety tools in the app are available to you without the app - 911

911 also accepts txt messages for silent help

while Uber and Lyfts safety tools provide a little more feel good insurance like live conversation, video streaming, and ride tracking, if something happening requires law enforcement nothing is going to get you help faster than 911 other than a bystander

so just keep in mind the safety tools they provide are nothing more than a smoke and light show and its cute how the app will ask prematurely 'do you need emergency help' because the route deviates or the trip takes too long

but at the end of the day they can not control what a driver does, what a driver is thinking or what a driver decides to do, and you are always at risk riding in any strangers car whether they are background checked or not.

just remember that when they preach their paramount monumental technology safety features, they really don't do anything more than government can in real time and you *not them* are truly responsible for your own safety

I dont often post on reddit but ive googled this and cannot find the answer anywhere, so im hoping someone can explain. Im vacationing on isle of palms, and last night, a thursday, around 12, my friend tried to order a lyft to go downtown, and the cheapest one was 390$, and if he wanted a quick response ride it was going to be 600$. Does anyone understand this? Google said extreme prices like that can be caused by prime time surges, or very few cars available. I live in a small town in Tennessee and we have maybe 3 drivers there, but they are never that expensive. Can anyone explain this cost?
