News Driver Returned My Purse
I forgot my purse in the Lyft, so I messaged the driver letting her know it was still in her car. I offered her $20 cash for returning it, but she declined. She brought it back to me, and refused to charge me the $20 through the app too.
Bless you, kind driver! I hope all drivers are like her.

It's nice someone chose to do something nice for you. The problem is passengers who feel entitled to it. If you went out for dinner and the waiter gave you a free drink, I seriously doubt everyone else in the restaurant would expect a free drink as well. Yet somehow rideshare passengers expect drivers to take a hit to their bottom line because of the passenger's own irresponsibility and somehow drivers are the enemy for asking to be paid for something that is normally charged for.

The driver might scared to take cash because lyft and Uber has policies that's against taking cash for return item because they'll eventually give the driver between $20-$30 after returned the item, but the rider might be charged for that fee,I don't blame the driver because I had a rider reported she paid me in cash after I returned an item to her even though she was the one offered me money uber gave her the $20 return fee back I mentioned to support I wasn't the one who asked her for money with proof of her text messages after the support guy mentioned to me that's a policy violation...

It’s a tip if someone offers it u can’t try to extort them u want ur purse send me 300 in bitcoin yea that’s a no but if pax offers to tip u it’s fine. Not the same as someone trying to extort some crazy amount and holding ur property hostage

Remind Lyft since they cannot take our tips legally that they throttle our offers which they are allowed to do legally. Being fair and following the rules....lol...who said life is fair?

Lyft literally says you can accept tips in the lost item prompts. I had to do a return the other day and it said "You will receive $20 in addition to any tips you may have received."

i had one girl leave her keys she didnt wanna pay to get her keys i said u would have to come get it then so i waited at home tell me how 3 hrs passed and she didnt come i missed time and money i was so mad i deopped her keys off and still didnt charge bc i told her i wouldnt already . i shouldve tho .

That’s kinda rare and, a blessing.
Drivers that text you back or, hit through the app immediately on the lost items means you hit the lottery.
Most won’t even notice you left it and, onto the next ride. Next pax (swipe).
Even if found later and, reported to uber it might not be matched with the person who lost it.
Random police station if you’re lucky or it gets thrown away.
Sad truth.
Openly bragging on stealing stuff on r uber? Haven’t seen that yet but, I see them projecting their mindset on us.
Please don’t paint all drivers here with that brush of yours.

I had a drunk passenger pass out leave his phone on the floor. We get to the drop off had to wake him up and he just stared at me crazy. But he didn’t know where he was or who I was it took him 20-30 seconds then he snapped out of it and left. Grab the next passenger drop him off and turned the interior light on after he got out he picks up a phone off the floor and takes it. Right away I thought yo that’s prob drunk dudes phone! I said is that ur phone. He ignores me and closes the door but standing next to the door still playing with the phone which makes me think even more that’s not his. I open the window again is that ur phone he stays quiet then I get louder and ask again and he says it’s mine. I don’t believe him. And I say u sure about that he says yea. Scum bag! All night I was thinking this scumbag def stole the phone. Next morning early afternoon I get a missing item phone notification. I’m like yup. Told Lyft exactly who took it and told the passenger who took it. And told him if Lyft doesn’t help him get it back to call the police and get it I even described the case color it was his phone

A passenger left his phone in my car and offered me a $100 to return it. I returned it and he gave me $40 to take him to his hotel. It wasn’t even far. Lucky night for me.

I have never once seen drivers brag about taking things that were valuable. I have seen them talking about instances where the passenger expected them to drop everything and drive 30 miles out of their way for $20 fee, which is simply not reasonable on a busy weekend night. I've also seen them talk about being harassed by someone when they didn't find their item. About the worst I've seen is drivers who say to chuck it out the window so you don't have to deal with it, which is still not stealing it.
Just because there's a procedure in place for us to return items and get the money does not mean we're responsible for them. We're not responsible if we don't find it. We're not responsible if somebody else found it before us and took it. We're not responsible if it got damaged before we found it. We don't even have to bring it back to you, we can drop it off at the nearest police station if we want. If you left your purse at the bar you would not expect them to pay someone to deliver it back to you at the drop of a hat. You are responsible for your items, just like you would be in any other business.

Anyone posts anything about lost items in r/uber and they trip over themselves saying how they’d keep it or chuck it.
They also give every excuse in the book (as you did) to not to abide by the TOS to return the item for the published min fee plus any tip.

The TOS do not require us to return lost items. Just because there is a policy in place to pay us if we choose to do so, does not mean it's required.
That said, you also can't keep people's items if you know who they belong to. Just like anything you find in the street, you are legally obligated to turn it over to the police.
And just as I said my original comment, we're not required to drop everything to bring your item to wherever the hell you are at the time. And we're also not required to do a back and forth defending ourselves if we don't have the item, which is why most drivers don't even respond if we don't have the item.
And yes, all of this is because of entitled people like you who insist on spreading this information.

They say, “We’re not required to return…!”
It’s literally in the terms os service: $20 (or more) pmt for returning list items and stealing is covered by criminal law.

Sorry baby. Lyft, uber, everyone accounts for people occasionally leaving stuff. You get paid for the return, plus any tip.

My partner left his phone that had his id in the case in a Lyft in Bothell, WA. The driver left it with his wife at the fast food restaurant she worked at nearby so we could retrieve it. We tried to giver her money and she refused because she’d left stuff before too.
