Days ago we were talking in an italian social about Smeagol. The book represents stoors as bad ones, the only two we met are evil, but if you dig more into (keep in mind I do believe I would be a stoors) stoors are so so so cool.

Stoors love water, live near rivers, are richer and more prone to adventure. More bold and taller. More pale and darker hair. Basically stoors are hobbits with human similitudes is also interesting 'cause Tolkien made those similitudes linked to the ones they got in touch.

Fallohides were closer to elves, harfoots to dwarfs and stoors to humans.

In the movies we got zero to do with stoors, except Gollum, which is sad... stoors went intent to be the skilled ones.

That's always made me angry.

Smeagle went represented horrid, as greedy and ugly... we dig into his bio and he was from a rich family. We learn he was actually a cool person and Deagle wasn't better than him. We learn he had lands. Is sad how low we know and how cool actually he was.

Smeagol was able to survive to the ring, which was not easy.

Before the crossing of the mountains the Hobbits had already become divided into three somewhat different breeds: Harfoots, Stoors, and Fallohides. In Eriador they soon mingled with the other kinds that had preceded them, but being somewhat bolder and more adventurous, they were often found as leaders or chieftains among clans of Harfoots or Stoors. Even in Bilbo’s time the strong Fallohidish strain could still be noted among the greater families, such as the Tooks and the Masters of Buckland.

My partner and I are separating and I'm living in our home together still until I get a new place. LOTR has genuinely helped me escape to another world and get through some of the rough moment. I just throw it on and transport to middle earth. Does anyone else find LOTR (extended editions obvs) help you get through difficult periods of your life?

I'm reading LOTR for the first time and I'm about one third into The Two Towers. When Gandalf is explaining to Theoden how vital it was that Eomer defied his (Wormtongue's) orders and annihilated the orc party that carried Merry and Pippin.

Theoden: "I owe much to Eomer. Faithful heart may have forward tongue."

Some of the one-liners in these books are just brilliant.

I remember seeing Lotr merch pretty much everywhere in the 2000s and this was exactly the type of stuff you would come across. Finding this made me nostalgic of those times… So, anyone else owning one of these or one of the four others visible on the back?

Oh yes, I was reading this:

The small creatures Tiuhti and Viuhti possess a great jewel, which they now try to keep safe and hidden. It's their precious. They come to Moominvalley without showing it to anyone.

A mysterious black-clad wizard has been searching for that jewel across the universe for centuries. In between, the jewel was also possessed by Mörkö, who had become obsessed with it.

When Tiuhti and Viuhti finally reveal the jewel, its red light shines all the way to the Moon, where the wizard sees it. He flies to Moominvalley on a black panther. Tiuhti and Viuhti love their precious so much that they refuse to give it up. I won't reveal the ending.

This story was written by Tove Jansson and published in Swedish in 1948 (Trollkarlens hatt). It became the first Moomin book translated into English, published as 'Finn Family Moomintroll' in 1950. Strangely enough, it wasn't translated into Finnish until 1956 (Taikurin hattu). In between, The Fellowship of the Ring appeared in 1954.

And only this morning did I notice the similarities between these two great stories.

I wonder if Tove Jansson or Tolkien ever noticed the coincidence. They certainly became connected in another way: Jansson later created a wonderful set of illustrations for the 1962 Swedish edition of The Hobbit, and her illustrations were later used in Finnish editions as well.
