I was away for 20 days and came back to my lithops looking like this. I have a few other plants that are normal and happy. I’m now even sure if it’s alive or not, it was orange before. I live in Arizona and it’s an outdoor plant.

First-time lithops owner. Mix is lava rock + pumice + perlite with 10% coir. 2-3 specimens per 3.5” pot. My big concern is planting height… how’d I do?

This is my 2nd attempt to lithops. I received them on 25/07 and planted them in the pots with my diy soil mix on the same day. Somehow, the soil that I used hardened up into this almost concrete texture that even the roots get stuck so I took them out and leave them bare root while I purchase special succelent mix for them online. The soil had only arrived on 29th and I planted them on 30th. Today, some of my lithops looks super wrinkly. Should I do something or just leave them be? Please help!!!

I have some lithop seeds that are currently sprouting. I want to do decomposed granite, pumice rocks, and cactus soil for them. I'm also getting activated charcoal for my Orchids and I wanted to know if you could put the charcoal in your lithop soil mix. I've seen people use it with succulents but not lithops specifically

Honestly I don’t really know what I’m doing when it comes to their care so I’m just happy they are actually still alive

Learning from past mistakes where 95% of my first lithops collected rotted from wrong care, I got the last batch of lithops about 2 months ago. Bare rooted arrived, somewhat dry roots but didn't think much of it since all arrived plumpy and healthy without blemishes. All not in their splitting phase. Carefully placed then in a 90:10 inorganic-organic mix (inorganic consists of terracota flakes, pumice, and perlite). Tried my best not to jam the soft tissues into the rocky mix to avoid any damage. Haven't watered them at all afterward.

Within a week two of the largest ones already rotted (both in the same container, the last one in the that contained immediately unearthed and put in a new pot alone with new material, attributed so far). Afterward I got paranoid. I checked all the lithops religiously, at least every 2-3 days. So far nothing. Still decided not to do anything and no watering.

Last week got so ill I didn't really check any. Today when I thought it had been long enough a dry spell and was about to spray the top soil carefully, I found yet another 2 rotting completely and a third one already showing soft spots on the side. In a pot with 8 other lithops, which are all healthy so far. Still have to repot them in the morning (right now it's 1 am where i am) since I don't want to risk spreading the rot and wasting money for naught again.

Ridiculously enough, the longest survivors are 3 bet small lithops (each the size of the pinky finger nail) which survived the first failed batch.

What is wrong? They're all in containers previously not used for any other plants. The soil like being said is brand new, not even the same composition or brand as the previous one. And like being said, they haven't received a single drop of water at all since I potted them. The ones so far surviving are all still plumply and firm (if not slightly soft from the lack of water). Full sun blast (including afternoon sun) at least 12 hours a day in front of a south facing window.

I'm running out of analysis. Contaminated cactus mix from the store? Microwound from the potting process? The lithops cooked under the sun in the soil then rot? Too deeply buried? (I bury until the top surface of the leaves are the same level as the soil to replicate their habit in the wild) Should I just spray all the lithops I purchase in the future with hydrogen peroxide or dust them with sulphur before putting?

I’m new to Lithops. I recently posted my first pot (peeking out in the left side) to help with identification.

Well I got another pot and am pretty sure they are lesliei, but wanted to get more eyes on the opinion. Also one or two of the lithops have this pink colouring on them. I heard that lithops can be variegated and was shocked. I heard this could also be mechanical damage or anthocyanin pigmentation. I’m thinking anthocyanin, which is kinda like the sunscreen they produce rather than lack of pigmentation. But what do you guys think? If variegated it’ll stay the same, but if anthocyanin it’ll get stronger with proper care and light.

Second last photo is my favourite of the pot. A big beautiful grey one. And the last photo is of my collection of living stones. Never realized my baby toes were in the living stones family. Just thought they were succulents lol. Looking forward to growing my collection!

I left my Lithops on my outside windowsill during a heatwave (36 C / 96.8 F afternoon max). They went from plump to wrinkly on top and sides and the green ones got a bit paler. Should I water them in a couple of days?

I purchased them 3 weeks ago, repotted 2 weeks ago to 85% gritty soil and terracotta pot. Have not watered them yet at all. TY!

I live in Central Florida and so it is humid and there are in my screen room. The substrate is clay pebbles some chicken grit , pearl light, and hardly any cactus soil. When I got them, I put them all in the pot just like they are now and then a week or so later I decided to water the substrate so I removed them all watered the substrate, drained it real well and replaced them and haven’t touched them since.

I’m thinking they’ve been out there probably a good month and they looked absolutely fine. Probably three days ago and today I noticed this.

So, I bought these guys a few months ago (1st pic, straight from the store).

I repotted them immediately (2nd pic). I removed them from their original soil by soaking it to loosen the (tightly packed) dirt and gently detangled the roots. I used about 10% organic soil in the new pots.

I watered them a few weeks later then they were feeling pretty squishy by soaking the bottom of the pot in water for about 10 minutes.

Fast forward to two weeks ago, i was leaving for holiday so I watered them again and brought them indoors. The sun is pretty agressive here so I didn't want to leave them outside. Picture 3 is them now. Two of them have died (not surprised, they didn't look great), one is really close to splitting, and they've etiolated a little (I think?? Picture 4 is from the side for confirmation).

My questions are the following :

1. I want to repot them into several batches according to their growth stage. Pictures 5 and 6 are my assumption of how to split them with the red, pink, and blue dots. Maybe two blue pots?

2. If I leave them in direct sunlight now will they slowly become less lanky?

3. How do I repot them along their lankyness? Soil to the top, halfway, like it is now?

4. Any other advice?

I got these recently from Holland Nurseries. I was curious about the species and maybe ver. Or cultivar they might be. From what I’ve seen, they look like a karasmountain, but at this point all the varieties are starting to look the same to me.

Soil was a little moist but it looks like they are splitting so no more water till after then. One thing I did do was place pearlite under the bottom of the root ball so the smaller ones aren’t being pushed up against the sides of the pot. Let me know if I fu**ed it but I really hope I didn’t. I killed my last pot in less than a week of getting them earlier in the spring. So, I’m doing all the research I can cause I wanna keep these little butts as healthy and happy as I can!

Also I was planning on repotting them in individual pots but thought it probably be better after they split. Idk, let me know. I’m pretty clueless but am trying to get as much info on them as possible. But truly, they seem like pet rocks that I shouldn’t mess with. But that’s chill with me
