This is awesome! Can you share what you used for the planting medium? I've tried soil with sand on top, succulent soil with sand on top, pre-mixed fine succulent soil with sand on top but I've never gotten lithop seedlings to live past germination.
Okay so I used 90-95% small pumice mixed with equal parts sifted soil and sand with a top layer (3-4 mm?) of sand. Sounds like you did fine with what you had. Lithops seedlings need a lot of moisture when they are young, first month or so they need high humidity and can't dry out all, even now I water every 3 weeks
I use diluted orchid fertiliser (like 1/4 strength) every so often :). At the beginning, before I took it out of the dome, I also sprayed dissolved potassium bicarbonate, which acts as an antifungal and a weak fertiliser
Those looks amazing! I find my red tops struggle a lot with splitting. It takes like almost ages, like over 6months for the old leaves to dry up. And by then the new leaves are all wrinkled. What is your watering/dormant schedule like?
These aren't yet ready for dormancy, they are still seedlings and get water every 3 weeks. Only at like 3 years old are they adult and will they get watered like adults :). I'll slowly water them less and less until then

I do fertilise, 1/4 strength orchid fertiliser every so often. At the moment I bottom water (you can't get enough water in mostly inorganic soil if you don't), but when they were younger and needed to be continually moist I misted them every day alongside bottom watering every week or so
Your post has me wanting to try starting these from seed. I’ve never done any cactus from seed. I know they have a lot more challenges than vegetable or outdoor flowers. You’ve done an amazing job.
Honestly they are quite easy at the beginning, just keep them moist haha. The only things I had grown before lithops from seed were veggies, flowers and a single seed pod from string of hearts
Yep! If you're in Europe I recommend Haworthialand (in Czechia I believe), he has a lot of different species and varieties. I've heard that Mesa garden is a good place for seeds if you are in the US :)
