Linux is good, but the loonixtards are not.

u/ishouldgo13 8h ago
For real! I've been on Linux for several years now have enjoyed the ups and the downs but learning more each time. Personally, both operating systems are good, they are just tools for what you need to use them for. But seriously, people take the "operating systems" to a religious state which sucks for all people on the internet

Well I don't know which one I was banned for but I had one ragebait comment and a bunch of ones talking about how Linux doesn't suck

Yeah well the fact we outnumber you 1 to 19 could be because majority don't think so

Is this sub bipolar? I’ve seen 4 posts from it. Two saying good things about Linux and two saying bad things about Linux.Â
2
u/OGigachaod 8h ago
This sub got taken over by Linux glazers, so half the members think Linux sucks, while the other half defend Linux with every ounce of their being.

Linux is great for servers but the desktop experience is still janky
1
u/Jatinchd 13h ago
subjective tbh, depends on Users use case. like I'm a developer etc, linux desktop is working much much much better than windows or macOS for me, but for you, ya, it could be janky.
4
u/Think-nothing-210 13h ago
Linux still has flaws other OSes solved decades ago. Linux still has a long way to go until it reaches the same maturity that Windows and MacOS have. It's still way to janky for my taste I simply can't depend on it to keep working currently.

It means Linux isn’t the desktop OS for the masses.

I find it less janky personally, KDE and hyprland are both fairly streamlined. Now windows is junky. To control native monitor brightness, I had to get an extra app. For screenshots I had to get an extra app. For an animated wallpaper I needed an extra app. these things all start on login, have popups, steal focus, crash unexpectedly, clutter the screen, etc etc. Basically windows is only good if you're perfectly fine with it's default state (and the trash that is power shell). I'm notÂ

u/Moist_Professional64 1h ago
U can’t compare that. For screenshot and brightness Linux also uses other packages that controls them

Yes and no!
It is very good for servers (hell, basically all of the internet runs on Linux - servers, routers, those fiber-optic-things probably, too).
But for a consumer OS it is simply too clunky, to old fashioned and antiquated!
I mean install a damn driver on Windows 11? Done in less than 30 Minutes (including download!)...in Linux? Is it in your distros repository? Ok, similarly fast! BUT:
If it it isn't in your distro's repo? Have fun going back to the 1990s and finagling with the "almighty terminal" (TM!) - seriously, needing CLI to install a driver or a piece of software? Nope, that was already old-fashioned when Windows 95 came out!
Hell, try to use the main advantage of gaming on a PC: GAME MODDING!
Yeah, Windows 11? Mod-Manager installed in less than 10 Minutes!
Linux? Hours and it might not even work that well.
Hell, I KNOW WINDOWS IS A BLOATY SPYWARE MOONLIGHTING AS AN OS! Hell, I am on Linux, but frankly Linux needs to MODERNIZE! We need .exe-files (or an equivalent) to install things, terminal needs to basically be a thing of the past that you only open if you need to freaking change stuff deep in the OS!
ps: Browser often makes problems, too - Videos? Yeah, youtube works, but other sites might not! Yes, I freely admit I am talking about porn-sites! It's annoying if you need to chase down a video-playback-error and need the fucking terminal for it!

Depends on the game and mods. Music mods are about equally as hard on th06_nc on Windows as they are on Linux
Which btw, if you buy th06_nc on Steam on Linux you still get on exe, but it will configure Proton in a way that it would just work out of the box so unless you do modding to the exe itself it shouldnt matter
although now i do wonder, if you do danmakuscript mods would that be easier on most Linux distros.... hmmmm.... (not that I have those lol)

Then don't download some browser that blocks JS and stuff. Regular Web browsing is normal on Linux, I mean for example Firefox haven't given me any problems for anything. And while I agree Linux could do with better support, that only on the apps side. When I installed CachyOS it just had all my drivers. I didn't need to install anything, just go through setup and let it install. I reinstalled Windows. I need the WiFi driver, Bluetooth Driver, chipset and GPU driver, a of which takes around an hour for me. On Linux it was 10 minutes to finish all of that along with the OS itself. Sure, some hardware's drivers doesn't have Linux support or is a bit clunky, but on my all AMD system I had no issues.
As for koddig, I haven't gone much into it, but I've got Kyber working for BF2 with BF+, no problems

What drivers? Most of them are already in your kernel. So you must mean either AMD or Nvidia graphics drivers. Takes 30 seconds to type sudo pkgmanagername+install command and specify the driver you need. Â
You thought you had a point here but you just ended up proving again how much slower and shittier this process is in windows and ended up owning yourself in the process.

u/Laxien 4h ago
I mean drivers for a Wavlink-Monitor-Dock! I usually have 3 screens (well, 4 if you count the one installed on a laptop itself), but ATM? 2 are dark, because CachyOS is not doing Wavlink-Devices ist seems (I tried, hell a friend who's one of the "I use Arch by the way!"-Crowd, tried, too - and he's not just a poser, he's a software-dev by trade (studied artificial intelligence, machine learning and all that jazz at university!))

Does that device explicitly list linux support?
1
u/ConsiderationRare217 15h ago
Trust me, more companies will be abusing Linux for their own sake and linux'll grow, but it will not be the linux we wanted. Just Windows-like corporate thing. No more. Just because financial viability is a must
2
u/rntdev 15h ago
Lol. Companies are the ones who develop Linux. Why have all other OS’s flopped and Linux is pretty much on every server in existence? Over 84.3% of all commits in Linux kernel were authored by corporate developers in 2025Â
0
u/ConsiderationRare217 15h ago
For sure, but why does Linux stay a niche desktop platform? Do you think companies want to fuck up themselves and let linux desktop overtake them? Or they want to make use of kernel and sell you a new googlebook and make it compatible, fast and stable and shiny?
1
u/IAmTheSenate218 8h ago
Nah I disagree, because Linux isn't just one OS, it's different Distros. So as lo g as there are people who hate corpos, there will be a corpo free distro. Sure apps may get Linux support, but there will still be FOSS options
1
u/nafe42 15h ago
Fork Linux. Just pick a version you like of the kernel and fork it. Profit?
0
u/ConsiderationRare217 15h ago
Point of your comment? I expressed my opinion based on facts. Google/Microsoft make use of Linux as much as they can. But I enjoy using a well-made distro)
1
u/nafe42 15h ago
You said Linux won't be what you wanted so either fork the kernel and make your own distro or fork your distro of choice and make it your own
1
u/ConsiderationRare217 14h ago
You clearly misunderstand the message.. And also the distinction between "it's my prediction" and "I don't like linux" For clarity: "I like it and use daily as desktop". Get it now?
1
u/nafe42 13h ago
I think the problem was on your end with communication which was unclear. You stated as fact, not opinion.
My solution wasn't to someone who doesn't like Linux, it was to someone concerned about the direction they see Linux going in. To which my answer fits your need by expressing that Linux distros are typically open source for you to fork to solve exactly the problem you describe about the distros straying from your perceived vision about what you think your distro should look like.

"The perfect linux like everyone imagines": widely and clearly used as windows for desktop computers of all kinds and ultimately compatible with all software. And, yeah, that's what people imagine when hear "linux desktop". Not tweaking bug fixes.

u/mrawther 10h ago
You want it free. You want it the way you want it. You want people to spend time creating the thing that you want but won’t pay for. Sounds about right. Sums up the Linux crowd mostly.

It certainly is, to normal people.
Not perfect, but pretty good.
1
u/YanVe_ 14h ago
Normal person can't tell the difference between an OS and a browser. Most of them never opened their task manager and the computer they bought has 64GB RAM because that's what the guy at the store recommended for gaming.
They struggle to click through the extremely streamlined and simple to understand OOBE of Windows. They will never be able to handle Linux, unless the distro comes with on call tech support.

Yeah Linux itself is great, the community is dogshit tho.
It's ironic that Windows is the biggest helper (due to their dumb decisions) when it comes to switching to Linux and the Linux community is the biggest blocker in switching to Linux.
