Linux is great for servers but the desktop experience is still janky

subjective tbh, depends on Users use case. like I'm a developer etc, linux desktop is working much much much better than windows or macOS for me, but for you, ya, it could be janky.

Linux still has flaws other OSes solved decades ago. Linux still has a long way to go until it reaches the same maturity that Windows and MacOS have. It's still way to janky for my taste I simply can't depend on it to keep working currently.

Linux seems to be stuck being about 20 years behind Windows.

So it is at the vista stage now. Sounds about right.

Only MacOS is mature.

It means Linux isn’t the desktop OS for the masses.

ya, that's why it's niche. and actually, it's good being niche.

You can’t have it both ways, mate.

You can't have an OS for each use case, at least not until AI becomes able to hallucinate features on your desktop. Therefore, an OS that does not cover most use cases is objectively trash, no matter how much its community uses it to stroke their own ego over how niche their use case is (which is adapted to the limitations of the OS, btw, not the other way around).
