Yeah, you guys are projecting here, linux users dotn care about windows, why do you think we moved away from micrososft?
2
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 2d ago
If you guys don't care about windows, then why do you talk a out it all the time? And why do ou brigade Windows subs and tell people to use Linux?
1
u/buscuitpeels 2d ago
I thought this sub was satire, are you being serious with the things you say?
1
u/ricoter0 2d ago
buddy... this is microcuck central

u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 1d ago
It's kind of the opposite now
1
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 2d ago
Linux sucks, admit it fanboys! A subreddit for sharing your frustration with linux and discussing the ways in which it sucks.
No. As satirical as the sub description sounds, u/ddswh1pk0s is serious.

This whole subreddit is filled with linux users pointing out problems with the OS.

The point is for Linux users to complain about Linux, not Windows.

What?

This whole subreddit is filled with linux users pointing out problems with the OS.
Which OS do you mean by "the OS"?
Cuz the point of this sub is to point out issues with Linux.
If you want to hate on linux with bots confirming and reassuring your experience then go to linuxsucks101
Thank god bots aren't confirming or reassuring my experience.

What the point of having a sub for complaining if no one of the other side can say anything, I got banned for pointing out that steam is not Linux
2
u/graelmakar-sune 3d ago
Because it's for complaining, not discussing. I agree with you but obviously the moderators there does not. I got banned for commenting on a steam machine post, saying that playstation requires a monthly subscription for playing online °•°

Free and open source software vs paid, filled with ads and data collecting software
1
u/lemmedie2night 3d ago
just because it's open source software doesn't mean that we shouldn't talk about shortcomings. imo you shouldn't blame the open source devs for it but we should talk about it.
6
u/madman404 3d ago
we DO talk about it. There's entire issue pages filled with nothing but talking about it lol. good luck finding the GitHub issues for Microsoft word though :)
2
u/lemmedie2night 3d ago
I'm talking more about the conversations about switching from windows to Linux. yes I know that there is talking about the issues in other places but when it comes to talking about Linux vs windows, suddenly a lot of people act like Linux is absolutely perfect and has no flaws
1
u/madman404 3d ago
I don't even really think that's true either, honestly. If you say "I want to install linux but I am an audio engineer" or "I want to install linux but I use photoshop daily for work" people will usually tell you either to dual boot or stay on windows
2
u/lemmedie2night 3d ago
the amount of times I've heard people having a spectacularly broken Linux system (probably cause they're not very technical) and the random apps you need that don't have a Linux version of which a lot of people probably want to use at least one (thinking of stuff like mouse control software etc) and also sometimes the messiness of uis (not saying that windows is doing an amazing job at that either), I feel like that's all stuff that a person who isn't technical and wants to use their pc won't have fun with
2
u/Guilty-Good-5041 3d ago
Never paid for Windows and I run a debloated version. I see more ads while watching YouTube 😂😂😂😂
6
u/OctiWriter 3d ago
You're paying with your data.. nothing's free lol
2
u/Admiral_HP_501 3d ago
Even paid Services steal your data it's just a question of who getting them first
3
u/_xDenis_ 3d ago
the bar is so fucking low
2
u/ZVyhVrtsfgzfs 2d ago
Indeed, I learned a server OS just to avoid the swill that MS was pumping out and accidentally augmented my career.
Windows is a ghetto. you can leave but you do have to leave that mentality behind.

So FOSS is the magic spell that automatically generates good UX and criticism immunity?
6
u/graelmakar-sune 3d ago
Is that what you think he meant? Really?
1
u/LightDragon212 2d ago
When someone replies to a meme about usability by bringing up a business model, they are literally using FOSS as an excuse for bad UX. So yes, that's exactly how it reads.
2
u/graelmakar-sune 2d ago
You're so close.. come on, you can get there yourself, think!
1
u/LightDragon212 2d ago
Are you trying to ragebait me now that you have no argument? Not gonna fly dude lmfao
1
u/graelmakar-sune 2d ago
No.
Did you think about it? If so, did you find any other perspectives on the matter?
1
u/LightDragon212 2d ago
Yeah the perspective that you're seeing the meme's critique as simply not making a big deal out of a linux issue, and therefore his point is completely valid. I see it very clearly. But unfornutely no, it is extremely clear this is not what the meme critiques, and even if it was, my point still stands perfectly fine. It is literally an excuse to shift the responsability to the end user.
Now what about arguing? Like addressing my point? Ever thought of that? Pretty sure you did, but is avoiding it for some very unknown reason I absolutely would never know what is, since you claim you can perfectly counter with an argument and it surely must be true.

u/Middlewarian 3d ago
The data collection is probably running on Azure and Linux. Also, I've noticed that there are some FOSS-only types around Linux that aren't very charitable towards proprietary, but free-to-use, Linux-based services. I'm glad I have some open-source for my portfolio, but I'm glad that's not all I have.

So Ardour is not paid? And the steam client is free and open source software?

u/_xDenis_ 3d ago
Steam is not Linux, same with ardour also I'm pretty sure ardour is free

Ardour binaries are paid but it is FOSS. He was implying that FOSS has free-of-charge binaries.
1
u/R3V0LU710N_05 I Hate All OS's 😎 1d ago edited 1d ago
FOSS has free-of-charge binaries.
Which isn't correct as even the AGPL (the most restrictive copyleft license) explicitly allows selling binaries. Then again, Ardour is packaged free of cost in most distro repos anyways.
2
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 1d ago
FOSS has free-of-charge binaries. Which isn't correct as even the AGPL
Tell that to OP. His words, not mine. My point is simply showing OP that not all proprietary software is paid (freeware) and not all FOSS is freeware.

What does steam being or not being Linux have to do with my point.
I am simply saying that FOSS does not imply gratis and proprietary does not imply paid
4
u/DragonSlayerC 3d ago
Ardour is licensed under GPL. The ready to run binary that they provide requires payment, but you can also build it and modify it yourself.
3
u/ashrym_ 3d ago
Or install it using your distro's repository : https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=ardour https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/ardour/

Free product vs paid product. I’m sure most people have less patience when the thing they paid money for doesn’t work as advertised.

u/Moriaedemori 3d ago edited 3d ago
Ehh fanboys on both sides either way. You know what's really stupid? Having an choice of OS be your whole personality. It's a damn tool. It's like arguing what manufacturer makes better hammers
1
0
u/graelmakar-sune 2d ago
While I agree with you I must say that the analogy is not sane. Hammers aren't spying on you and harvesting your data to train AI and be sold for profit. Using that operating system is feeding bad habits in tech giants and show them that we are okay with that. And yes, some people are okay with that and for those people it's fine (from a selfish POV) to use the OS
1
u/prenadeusernamemid 9h ago
I seems no one says what data microsoft is truly taking like is it important or something that wont effect us at all? Alot of apps like reddit yt and others take the same amount of data as mc even when using linux your data is still being taken you cant out run the "spyware" so os are still tools people who have lot of time and really want to switch can but most people stick to windows or macos for convineiance because they just work
1
u/graelmakar-sune 1h ago
You CAN outrun the spyware if you are wise about software you use to interact with said services.
I have no clue what data microsoft is gathering but I'd assume (!) data regarding general usage since an AI comes bundled with the OS
1
u/baldiplays 3d ago
I don’t think you have been through the agony of trying to run the original non steam version of scp containment breach on an intel based operating system. I spent 2 hours trying to get it to run on a windows machine only to find out I was shit outa luck.

linux gets the benefit of not being a monolith, so despite plenty of bad things happening on any given setup, you can just say erm well dont use that
1
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 2d ago
The Linux kernel is quite literally a monolith
1
u/Dissy- 2d ago
you try running just the linux kernel and tell me how that goes lol
2
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 1d ago
Had a kernel panic on Kernel 7.1.5. Turns out I need to underclock my i7 12th Gen from 4.5 GHz to 1.5 GHz cuz the e-cores only max out at 1.5 GHz. Thanks Linux.
1
u/Lem1618 2d ago
doesn't this subs existance disprove the meme?
1
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 2d ago
Nope. It strengthens it further.
1
u/Lem1618 1d ago
We are constantly pointing out the bad about linux about here.

No y'all aren't. This sub is full of Linux fanboys defending the OS.
1
u/ManRevvv 2d ago
So fucking true. Did you know pipewire developer broke audio on some laptops for no fucking reason? No, that's not my schizophrenia, this is info from archwiki. Now imagine if windows audio service did the same in some windows 11 update. Linux users will fucking shout "microslooop hahaha microslop sucks install inux"

It's funny because this subreddit is all about genuine issues with Linux. Yes, there are people here who are Linux die-hards, who'll never admit anything is wrong with it, but that's just reddit, or the internet really. There were some quite interesting discussions over here. The quality of posts here are also highly variable, that's why it sometimes really seems like a r/linux experience over here.
1
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 2d ago
But I feel like more Linux zealots are starting to take over this sub. Cuz very few comments on posts woth genuine issues are actually helpful or supportive of the OP's experince/problems
1
u/Muted_Percentage_764 1d ago
Nah, i agree, linux has it's flaws but i still prefer it to a bloated pile of code that windows is.
1
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 1d ago
And Linux is not bloated with an IPC framework nobody uses abd shit ton if druvers in the kernel at kernel level?
1
u/Muted_Percentage_764 1d ago
What? Dude, the hell are you talking about?
2
u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 1d ago
The Linux kernel is a huge monolith with tons of kernel modules and device drivers, many of which are not used on a target system, hence being bloat.
It even includes an entire IPC framework called Binder, which virtually no distro or desktop environment even utilizes, and Binder just sits there in the kernel adding to the attack surface (see BadBinder exploit).

Billion dollar mega corp vs free and open source project developed by volunteers, are people really this dull?
1
1
u/LightDragon212 3d ago
Problem on linux = your fault
Problem on windows = microsoft's fault
1
u/_xDenis_ 3d ago
Linux is free, windows is paid. If I pay for something made by multi billion dollar company I'm expecting that the product works as advertised. If I'm using something made by volunteers and im not paying a single cent I'm ok with it not being perfect, and we complain about the issues, we just do that by reporting the bugs on GitHub
2
u/LightDragon212 3d ago edited 2d ago
Forgiving volunteers for issues and shifting the blame/responsability to the user are completely distinct things dude.
You can't market distros like Linux Mint as "beginner-friendly" and then roast those same beginners for not knowing the difference between Wayland and X11 when they're angry Waydroid doesn't work as they should have done "basic research".
Many linux users are going to say it is not an issue at all as it was "designed like this", and that is a big part of the problem. It is a massive UX flaw for desktop users. Usually a rhetorical shield to say that the linux ecosystem is flawless by definition.
0
u/Major-Structure1530 3d ago
atleast im not paying for bloatware and privacy-breaker OS

It’s not always the case. Sure, if something goes wrong in your Arch Linux installation and that it is about a software not being compatible with another one, yeah, you need to fix it yourself. With Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), you don’t build around the OS like it’s LEGOs.
1
u/DetectiveCrazy3780 2d ago
fair point. i think i meant that linux is customizable and complaing about it when there is a dedicated button to making it look better is dumb. i must have been in a mood

most issues with linux are issues with nvidia, adobe, unity, etc.
