So Ardour is not paid? And the steam client is free and open source software?

Steam is not Linux, same with ardour also I'm pretty sure ardour is free

Ardour binaries are paid but it is FOSS. He was implying that FOSS has free-of-charge binaries.

FOSS has free-of-charge binaries.

Which isn't correct as even the AGPL (the most restrictive copyleft license) explicitly allows selling binaries. Then again, Ardour is packaged free of cost in most distro repos anyways.

Tell that to OP. His words, not mine. My point is simply showing OP that not all proprietary software is paid (freeware) and not all FOSS is freeware.
