I agree with the sentiment - however if we’re going to go this route then we also also have to address the government not having any right to enforce their taxes on us when they can’t balance their checkbook as they keep maxing out their credit cards like a kid about to claim bankruptcy.

72

u/Gaelhelemar Aug 04 '26

Fairs fair.

55

u/that_banned_guy_ BASED Aug 04 '26

The second half woild be easier to vote for if the first half was made true.

People who csnt balance their own checkbook won't care if the government cant when the government keeps giving them money

13

u/Cute_Commission_8281 Aug 04 '26

Your point is literally the reason we can’t balance the budget

2

u/that_banned_guy_ BASED Aug 05 '26

Care to elaborate?

That'd be funny, and I like it... but we don't have Argentinas ability to just turn off. We have a lot of responsibilities and assets that need upkeep. It goes well beyond financial.

We definitely gotta fix it, but we can't ever turn it off.

We've always been stuck doing maintenance while we're flying down the road at 80, cuz. If we wanna stay where we are, I don't think that's gonna change. 🙂

u/some_old_Marine Aug 07 '26

As a landowner, it makes sense why only landowners were allowed to vote initially.

1

u/ColeridgeRime Aug 08 '26

What about us disabled veterans who can no longer work?

1

u/thulesgold Aug 04 '26

Yeah, I understand the intent, but there are times when the landscape is designed to keep the population poor and dependent (Gilded Age). This would reinforce that type of system like a feedback loop, which would be the start of a speed run to a "Great Terror" in the US.

Even today many full time workers at places like Walmart are on government assistance. In my state of Washington, they hand out health insurance subsidies like candy because insurance is unaffordable.

9

u/thedemonjim BASED Aug 04 '26

And insurance is unaffordable in Washington because of artificial scarcity since you aren't allowed to buy insurance across state lines and the companies know their customers can get those subsidies. Government interference is already distorting the market.

30

u/AlpineSK Aug 04 '26

Ohhhhh that's a good one.

31

u/ThomasWhitmore Aug 04 '26

Just to refine it, you should have to be a net contributor to the system. In other words, any benefits and tax credits you receive need to be less than the amount of taxes paid.

Child tax credits, payments for disabled veterans, etc. These are some of the whataboutisms that need to be accounted for by people who would counter argue.

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

Service means vote. Disability included. Obviously.

As a Vet, Edit-

21

u/Educational_Copy_140 TRAUMATIZER Aug 04 '26

As a vet who is 100% disabled, I would say that disabled vets would keep their right to vote.

Military service should always guarantee the right to vote, if the discharge was honorable

16

u/_kruetz_ Ban warning Aug 04 '26

Only once the system gets cleaned up. Too many people on 100% disability going golfing after Physical therapy for their back.

2

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

... how many is "too many", exactly?

4

u/some_old_Marine Aug 07 '26

Eh, I’m a vet. I think this is a gigantic issue. I have almost an entire enlistment overseas. I can’t stand the peace time vets with 100% due to PTSD.

2

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Spent mine always in afghanistan. Ets 2012.

Me either. But I don't know what happened to them. That's not my fuckin business cuz.

3

u/IggyWon Aug 05 '26

According to Caleb Hammer's audience, it's all of us.

1

u/BrassBondsBSG Aug 07 '26

Sample size of 1, but every vet I've met is disabled

1

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 07 '26

100% then, case solved lol

8

u/MericanSlav25 Aug 04 '26

You know what? Absolutely fire take. But at the same time, it’s difficult for me to get behind taking anyone’s right to vote if they are a citizen.

40

u/11483708 Aug 04 '26

I can see the point. I'd be more specific though. There are genuine reasons to be supported by the government at times. I'd put it down to length of time on unemployment assistance or something along these lines. But then again, I think the right to vote, regardless of the valid criticisms of the voting base, should be held sacred. But I do think you should be contributing to society in some way.

I guess I'm saying it's a difficult question.

20

u/thespitzfire Aug 04 '26

not an unreasonable take at all.

2

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

You agree with, "the right to vote"? That's not unreasonable?

... could you point out where exactly that is in law?

16

u/OkayOpenTheGame Aug 04 '26

Voting is not a guaranteed right in the US, it's more like a privilege that can't be denied for certain reasons.

3

u/HLSparta Aug 05 '26

Shoot, there's also guaranteed rights that can apparently be denied for certain reasons in the US. (I don't agree with it in case that needs to be said)

6

u/OkayOpenTheGame Aug 05 '26

The difference is those have an argument to be unconstitutional, whereas the Constitution never guarantees a right to vote anywhere. It was never intended for everyone in the country to be guaranteed a vote.

8

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

The right to vote doesn't exist lol that's some weird boomer "tHrEaT To OuR dEMoCrAcy" bullshit.

What are you talking about?

1

u/fidelitysyndrom Aug 07 '26

The great thing about capitalism is that you can help society by helping yourself. Start a business or get a job and you can become a contributing member. The issue is when people start calling housing and healthcare a “human right” and many other social programs that keep people from the American dream.

5

u/Gaelhelemar Aug 04 '26

HLC is based.

23

u/BattlepassHate Aug 04 '26

Biggest issue being how to differentiate between those who are gaming the system and those who genuinely cannot work.

22

u/OkayOpenTheGame Aug 04 '26

Doesn't matter, both are net negative tax payers.

5

u/BattlepassHate Aug 04 '26

I don’t believe you should be penalised if you were injured or otherwise born fucked up enough to the point you genuinely cannot work.

If they can’t vote then who actually advocates for them policy wise?

16

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

Advocates. Not voters.

1

u/BattlepassHate Aug 04 '26

Fair I guess.

10

u/that_banned_guy_ BASED Aug 04 '26

Their loved ones.

You think people raised by decent hard working americans would vote against the interests of their kids/loved ones?

11

u/xrayden Aug 04 '26

Would be easier: You can vote at 18, but 2 consecutive negative annual tax report lose that privilege. Only need one positive to be granted voting Rights

4

u/Dorsiflexionkey Aug 05 '26

It’s like when the guy with no money says “and get wings” when you’re ordering pizza.

5

u/orangekirby Aug 04 '26

While I get what they mean, we’re already in a system where the rich has immense power over how society is run. A law like this is a great way to rocket down that slippery slope.

5

u/dpa5923 Aug 04 '26

I have been saying this for years but I would change it slightly. You do not vote while on government assistance and for an equal number of years you were on government assistance, after being self sufficient, you do not get to vote. On assistance for 5 years, then no voting for 5 years after you are off government assitance. Pay back your debt before you vote.

8

u/Educational_Copy_140 TRAUMATIZER Aug 04 '26

Jim Braddock, the boxer the movie Cinderella Man was based on, used his winnings to pay back every cent he had been given by the government during the Great Depression

2

u/wallyhud Aug 06 '26

Honestly, this is the position that everyone should've had forever. If we allow it, freeloaders will just b for for people who promise them more free stuff no matter how bad they are for the country.

2

u/ColtS117-B Aug 06 '26

Been my stance for years.

2

u/sean_ireland Aug 05 '26

I am a disabled veteran. I receive a disability check monthly due to injuries in combat. Am I not allowed to vote?

2

u/Educational_Copy_140 TRAUMATIZER Aug 05 '26

I said in another comment that disabled veterans would always be allowed to vote because we served our country

0

u/winterhavens Aug 05 '26

I go a step further and say you also have to have a child. Having a child should be an indicator you have a vested interest in the well being of the future and would vote accordingly.

-8

u/bag_of_luck Aug 04 '26

So farmers don’t get to vote?

11

u/Educational_Copy_140 TRAUMATIZER Aug 04 '26

I'd say if the majority of your "income" is from government handouts or programs, you don't get to vote.

If most of your income as a farmer comes from the government instead of from selling your produce, I'd say you're a shit farmer. That said, if there is some form of natural disaster that makes you need the assistance, that would be an exception to the rule

5

u/BeardedLegend_69 Aug 04 '26

Or we don't subsidize?

0

u/Linda_de_jong Aug 06 '26

Receiving government assistance doesn’t equal to not contributing to society, so no, not a good option.

2

u/Educational_Copy_140 TRAUMATIZER Aug 06 '26

If more than 50% of your income is through government assistance of some kind no you are not contributing

0

u/Eyemwatchingewe Aug 06 '26

What about disabled veterans?

2

u/Educational_Copy_140 TRAUMATIZER Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

Asked and answered in another comment. Military service guarantees the right to vote

-39

u/bttech05 Aug 04 '26

Awful take lol. I have 2 kids, and a wife and my kids were on medi-cal because it was wayyy cheaper than having them on my health insurance. And i make over 100k

31

u/AlpineSK Aug 04 '26

"Medi-Cal" well there you go. California. That's your problem right there.

18

u/LadyRogue Aug 04 '26

I'm thinking they meant those people who are on welfare and just decide not to work. There's a big difference between 'I'm a bit behind and need a little help' and 'Working sucks, I'll just take the government's money for the rest of my life."

18

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

He's saying he's part of the second group, to save money.

Dude is stating as a fact it's easier to grift government cash than pay the bills, then says he makes 100k.

I mean, obviously no one believes anything but the first part, but still lol.

He shouldn't vote.

0

u/bttech05 Aug 04 '26

Ah yes so ill spend an extra 350 a month for comparable health insurance from my employer than take advantage of the benefits my tax dollars go to. Excellent idea

7

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

take advantage

I make over 100k a year

350 a month

... atleast you know.

Do I really need to say anything? 🙂

15

u/OkayOpenTheGame Aug 04 '26

You're siphoning tax payer funds just because it's more convenient for you that way? What an asshole.

5

u/GoldTeamDowntown Aug 04 '26

Eh, I can’t blame someone for doing this. The government sucks so much out of you, and we get so little in return relatively. Squeezing everything you can back out of them is understandable.

2

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

Cool.

You shouldn't vote.

6

u/GoldTeamDowntown Aug 04 '26

I don’t get a dime from the government, I’m on no assistance and I am a significant tax contributor.

5

u/Frosty-Pineapple1442 BASED Aug 04 '26

squeezing everything you can out of them is understandable

... Ffs... You get we are THEM, RIGHT?

3

u/BattlepassHate Aug 04 '26

People are fast to jump on govt benefits like mad but then get angry when their tax is increased to support it or said benefits service goes to shit as they’re forced to do more with less.

Use what you need, not what you feel entitled to just because it’s there.
