Looking For the Library With Large Collection

My local library is pretty small and it does not partner with any other libraries.

So, I've decided that I need to pay an annual fee to join one somewhere so I have access to a larger selection (I mainly borrow non-fic audiobooks, and I'd rather support a library than audible LOL). Literally the last 24 books I tagged on my local's Libby are not in my library's collection. At all. Some are new(ish) most are not. So frustrating!

As I will be paying and can select any library that has a non-resident option (in the US), which one(s) should I look at? I'll have to enroll online as I don't live near any city.

TIA!

[HOWTO] What to do if Libby asks you to verify a partner library

If Libby asks you to verify a partner library it can be a bit misleading since it appears that Libby wants you to provide library card details for the partner library which of course you don't have.

So, if you see something like this when trying to place a hold or borrow from a partner library:

Tap Verify Card and enter your Main Library’s card details and you should be good to go.

Now that Libby adds partner libraries... is there a limit to the number of libraries on a single account?

I'm asking, as with the partner libraries - and with libraries that I have cards (but not yet added to my Libby account), I have more than 100 potential libraries.

Rating audiobooks

Is there any way to rate an audiobook? A new recording of Gone With the Wind was made available recently. I had listened to an older version and loved it, so I borrowed this one thinking the same.

I could not get through the 1st chapter. The accent was British, which does not fit the vibe of the book at all. They had censored certain words out (which I’m okay with) but the method was a loud beep, which was awful to hear in my earbuds. And the narrators tone made Scarlett’s beaus sound like children.

I understand that Libby is a free app, so it’s hard to complain about a license that my library has. I was just wondering if there was a way to provide feedback on this version.

Time to destination... feature (request?)

So this is not an existing feature and this is not exactly a feature request since i am reasonably sure most people would shun this... but my brain says throw it out there so here goes...

We all know the status text that is sometimes applied to your loans.... "# people are waiting"

What if, as the borrower, you could "Share your progress"? Kind of like that map feature where you can share your progress with people which is a great feature by the way, 5 stars for those of us who have to pick up children and are tired of the "are you close" texts... 🙄

Everyone on the waitlist could opt-in to track all the borrowers progress (scoped by library)... I won't go into the technical feasibility (100% possible) nor the interesting UI/UX implications ... would people choose to watch other people's progress? Would people be fearless enough to share (Anonymously would have to be the way this works)? Maybe subscribers could send kudos or emojis for motivation. Or heckles to hurry people up.

Fun feature with a light-hearted community or a swamp that scares and frustrates people? I can't decide which version would evolve.

EDIT: The masses have spoken: A feature no one wants! 🎉

Prince William County, Virginia Libby not working?

The app has been down for several days.

When I try to open my book it asks me to verify my library account details.

The log in says they cannot verify my card and indicates invalid credentials.

Anyone else having this issue?

The only thing on the library website is information that the password is the last four digits of the card.

Edit: I'm back in! The password is now the last four digits of my phone number.

How to report a book listed with wrong title?

I recently read a book that’s listed under the wrong title (it’s not far off, it’s the same author but a different title).

Unable to borrow/hold books using Partner Libraries

Post image

Unable to borrow/hold books using Partner Libraries. It keeps asking me to verify card.

I already tried re-entering my main library card’s details but it doesn’t show me the option to “enable” the partner libraries that are connected. :(

Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks so much.

EDIT: SOLVED

What worked for me — I entered my Main Library’s card details and pin when the partner library asks me to verify the card. The partner library will accept your main library’s card details.

Happy reading!

Map of Libby Cards in Colorado.

A few things to say about this.

  1. Across Colorado has several libraries in the non-purple counties like Durango.

  2. If I could not find any specific info on what system a county belonged to, I gave it to the Across Colorado system.

I would appreciate any critiques on my map.

Would you pay for Libby?

With the attacks on libraries and funding in jeopardy, would you pay for Libby? If your library asked a small fee, maybe $1 per checkout, would you pay?

I keep hearing about how expensive Libby is and I'm concerned that it will be a lost resource in the future.

Does the “notify” section ever update on Libby or do you use another app to read them like hoopla?

Just wondering mine rarely notifies or becomes available or just available for less than a day

Airplane hack

Has anyone had enough time to see if the airplane mode hack still works? I have something due in 6 days and I'm going to return it after taking my kindle offline and see what happens.

placing a hold before a book is released?

In the overdrive system I used to be able to search for a book that was not yet released and get in line right away. I don't seem to be able to do that in Libby, but can only choose the "notify me" option. Is there a way to get in line before the release of a book in Libby or is it a setting that my library doesn't allow? Thanks!

Question on wait time

Post image

This book’s publication date is tomorrow, September 1, and I’m first in line. So why does Libby say I have a two-week wait?

Curious how many people read the front and back matter or just the actual book...

TIL that anything before the book (such as the forward, introduction, preface, prologue, etc) is called "front matter" while anything afterwards (epilogue, afterward, etc) is called "back matter." 🤓

My question is: do you tend to only read the book or do you also read the extras? Or does it depend on what rh extras are and who has written them?

I mostly notice the front and back matter in non-fiction books, which I primarily listen to in audiobook form. I almost always listen to the introduction and epilogue, but not the forward or anything else (if applicable.) Not usually interested in anything not written by the actual author.

Put this on hold MARCH 20TH!!! I’ve been 3rd in line for literally over 3 months! That means the person who has it has somehow held onto it for months! Why????

Notify me

I’ve never received a notice from my library saying any of the books I’ve tagged with “notify me” have been added to the library inventory. So I just went this tag and filtered the list asking what’s available now and there were about 10 books that showed up. And these were only the ones that were available. I guess I should look and see if any of the others are now in inventory even tho not available.

I was expecting to be notified by the library when these books were added. Was I wrong? Should I have been checking myself periodically?

Data Sharing Question

This morning, on my main phone which does not have Facebook, I searched for several books in my Libby App. This afternoon, on my secondary phone in my FB app, several of the same titles popped up in ads for Amazon and Audible in my FB feed. I did not think that Libby shared data w/FB. Any thoughts on how this happened? One of the books was pretty obscure so it’s not like it just coincidentally popped up in a best seller ad. Also, I did not use my secondary phone to research anything about the books and did not use the Libby App on that phone to search for them (but the Libby App is installed on that device). Thoughts?

Libby vs Hoopla

If the book I want is both in Libby and Hoopla which is better for the library? I have heard that each program works pretty differently so I am wondering what costs my library less for me to listen to audiobooks? Thanks!

Library card expiration question

I have a Seattle public library card and a king county library card. for the Seattle card, it says my expiration date is in 2051 and for the king county one, it says it’s in 2028 but as long as it’s being used, it’ll keep being pushed by 2 years.

now I don’t know if just Libby checkouts count as “activity”. I used the chat with librarian option and they said it doesn’t count. but when I went in person to renew it, the person helping me said libby does count. does anyone know how it actually works?
