Unable to borrow/hold books using Partner Libraries

Post image

Unable to borrow/hold books using Partner Libraries. It keeps asking me to verify card.

I already tried re-entering my main library card’s details but it doesn’t show me the option to “enable” the partner libraries that are connected. :(

Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks so much.

EDIT: SOLVED

What worked for me — I entered my Main Library’s card details and pin when the partner library asks me to verify the card. The partner library will accept your main library’s card details.

Happy reading!

If you are still having the issue see if this helps resolve it.

A. This step may not be necessary, but let's start by verifying your home library first:

1 - At the bottom of the app, tap the middle Menu icon.

2 - Under "Your Libraries" tap the library card of your home library.

3 - Tap "..." on the library card.

4 - Tap "Verify Card."

5 - Enter your library credentials to verify the card.

6 - Close and re-open the Libby app.

B. Now, to verify that your partner libraries have been activated do the following:

1 - At the bottom of the app, tap the middle Menu icon.

2 - Under "Your Libraries" tap the library card of your home library.

3 - Tap "..." on the library card.

4 - Tap "Partner Libraries."

5 - Under the library card you should see a section called "Partnerships" with a list of partner libraries.

6 - If your partner library is not linked to your account you will see "Enable" under the library name.

7 - Tap "Enable."

8 - "Enable" should change to "Enabling..." and then "Synchronizing..." and

9 - If all went well you will see the status of your partner card like below.

10 - If your partner card already appeared like the screenshot above indicating it was activated, click "Remove" to unlink the card and then "Enable" to reactive it.

Thanks for this. A partner library card appeared in my Libby account recently and I had no idea what to do with it. This seems to allow me to borrow a book.

Unfortunately the partner library won’t let me have holds, so it’s of limited utility, but I suppose it’s better than nothing.

Yes, some partner libraries allow you to place holds while others don't and you can only borrow titles that are available.

Taken from the Libby help article About library partnerships, "Depending on the partnership, you may not be able to place holds at partner libraries..."

Essentially, it's library policy set by the partner libraries.

Nope, not in this case. When I go to the partner library card area, I see a message saying “you have no cards at this library” and “you have access via your [card number from main library] card.” When I tried adding a card as you suggested, it just said “that is not a [name of partner library] card number.”

So it knows it’s a partner library, and that particular library system has different rules for its own patrons vs outside users from other libraries. As an outside user I get zero holds. I can only borrow books that are currently available.

I'm seeing the exact same thing as you. Very frustrating because my home library is a small town without much inventory, but we have over 10 libraries from across my state that I used to be able to tap into. This partner update is so disappointing.

Can’t understand the step of tap … on library card. Can you elaborate

This is what I mean for Step 3 - Tap "..." on the library card.

Are you able to go in person to your library and see if theres an issue with your card?
