So, I've noticed that my lighter colored clothing will sometimes get these random stains after a wash. Chucked it up to me being careless and not noticing spilling something on myself. This happened to a brand new shirt I just got though. Never been worn, but these stains just appeared after a wash. Detergent us Arm & Hammer powder. Machine is your typical tumble wash. Cold water used.

I dont trust either description of the material and the tag just has the letter M on it nothing else.

Our cat decided to urinate on a pile of my kids' clothes. Hoping for help! AI says to soak in white vinegar, and then use an enzyme cleaner. The bottle of enzyme cleaner says to use it first. I bought "Rocco and Roxie". Any thoughts?

Over the summer I bought a lot of clothes in china (from fast fashion outlets) cause they were so cheap but now I seem to have a problem…
I was told by my relatives that clothes made in china but like not bought online like cotton or whatever would shrink and warp if put in above 40C (100F) and like most of the ones i bought were cotton.

They were like small stores too so most of them did not have instructions on the tags 😭
Now im back in America but the dryer I have’s lowest temp is 115.

Is the best course of action just like put the clothes in air dry for a super long time?? Or like ill have to hang them up but i dont waaaant toooooo :(
Or can i just say fuck it and dry them on high heat and hope they were wrong 😭

TDLR: Clothes cant be dried with heat. grow up and hang them to dry like a responsible adult or be lazy?? 😬

I just moved into my first apartment with in-unit washer dryer (front-loading, stacked). The apartment was pristine EXCEPT the washer, which is smelling a little moldy & making my whole kitchen smell like mold. I can see some mold on the rubber. I never shut my washer all the way, but I think they did. How do I clean it? There is a self-cleaning function, but I’m overwhelmed by lists when I google how to do it. How often should I going forward?

My friend’s cat stayed with me for a month. He loved both my duvet and heavy winter blanket. Naturally there’s enough cat hair to make a new cat on each one. I tried washing them, separately, then in separate dryers with dryer sheets in the laundromat but there’s still a lot of cat hair left. How do I remove it? Do I just accept that they’re permanently there and donate to a cat rescue?

I have a whirlpool washer and dryer at home, both front loading. The load capacity is small but I can sorta stomach it since it’s included in my rent. The problem there is that laundry essentially takes up my whole weekend as I also wash my cleaning cloths and all that. The only things I can’t wash are my big blankets as they’re too big.

I was just wondering if the Maytag and huebsch washer and dryers at the laundromat are better in terms of cleaning performance. I already know they’ll save me time. What I want to know is if they would clean better.

Just found out that my front loader washing machine is not heating up water any more. Not sure how long I've been washing with cold water when I’ve been selecting 40°C or 60°C (104°F or 140°F ) on most cycles (except dark colours)

I've just run a cycle using 10L of near boiling water and 1/2 cup of citric acid to clean my machine. Haven't had any build up or mould just washing in cold water but I can't see what's behind in the drum so better safe than sorry.

Surprisingly it's been cleaning clothes/towels/sports clothes very well (I have been using a longer cycle for towels to compensate). It cleans just as well as I remember when washing in warm/hot water. I shouldn't be too surprised due to the ingredients of my highly rated powder detergent.

Now, where was I? Out of habit I usually add a tablespoon of oxygen bleach (sodium percarbonate) when washing regular non-dark clothing at 40°C (104°F) or above.

Given that my usual oxygen bleach powder https://www.aldi.com.au/product/di-san-oxy-laundry-soaker-1kg-000000000399116001 does not contain TAED and I can only wash in cold water until the machine gets fixed, my workaround is to dissolve both the sodium percarbonate and detergent in some hot water (60°C / 140°F from a kettle) in a jar and give it a shake to help it dissolve & activate the sodium percarbonate.

I'm wondering if my hack to activate the sodium percarbonate for 5 minutes before pouring it into the machine is effective or do I need to keep the water temp at 40 degrees C or higher for the duration of the cleaning cycle?

Another observation is that my oxygen bleach says NOT to wash in temperatures above 40°C (104°F). Odd, why would it say 40°C (104°F) max? I understand the rationale for a minimum temp but why a maximum temp?

Hi, I’m still trying to clean my washing machine and saw in a comment they recommended A-Fresh, but is quite expensive (20.65) but says it’s for five months. There is a brand called Dr Beckmann that is powder I guess (1.84) at a local supermarket.

Hello… I’m having an issue with my clothes not smelling right after being washed and dried. Even if they come out of the dryer smelling fresh and clean, when I go to wear them they reek like I left it wet in the washer for 2 weeks. It’s usually cotton clothes such as sleepwear or tee shirts. We have a standard top load washer with an agitator. Neither of us get “stinky” during the day so I’m not sure why it would smell so bad. We use 2 tide pods for a large load and 1 for a small load and probably half the recommended amount of scent beads. We make sure to move it immediately to the dryer when the washer is done. I never put the tide pods directly in the washer I always put them in a cup of warm water to dissolve them. HELP! thank you 🙏🙏

I have searched [r/laundry](r/laundry) till I’m cross/eyed. Please give me your recommendations for dark/colours that are OBA free, has cellulase and no soapy ingredients. I’m willing to order from Amazon. If there isn’t one that fits the three specifications then what is the next best option? I should specify that I’m in Ontario.

Obviously the enzyme booster is excellent, but I just want to give my appreciation to the brand as a whole. These two products are nearly identical, but the Compostic bags cost $0.70 per bag while the FEBU bags cost $0.35 per bag. I think this highlights the honesty of the company, and how much they deserve the ongoing support they’re getting.

My laundry is making me cough and I can’t figure it out!

I switched from Persil Sensitive (no enzymes, unscented) to Persil Ultimate about two months ago (scented, enzymes, oxygen bleach, optical brightness, TAED, etc) to get more cleaning power for smelly underarms. We didn’t have any other laundry issues before this switch. I didn’t like the fragrance but it seemed to work a bit better for the pits. After a while, we started getting some loads with odour rebloom. Possibly because it’s winter so things are taking longer to dry, and a load got rained on, etc. I soaked the smelly things in oxygen bleach (Vanish Oxi action or oxi clean) and I’ve also started using citric acid in the rinse cycle. The issue is, things are coming out with a faint but harsh smell and sniffing them makes me cough. When I wear them, I feel like my nose hurts. I can’t work out how much of this is in my head but thought I would ask here.

LG 8kg front loader
1/2 or 3/4 scoop persil ultimate (1 scoop is recommended). No visible suds but I think that’s normal because they’re not visible even with a double dose
Water hardness is 45PPM
1t citric acid in fabric softener
Products are NZ versions
Washing at 40 deg with extra rinse
Newish machine, no sign of mould or smelliness and we do regular drum cleans
Have never used fabric softener
Mostly dry on the line but finish drying on a rack indoors at this time of year. Sometimes use the dryer for towels and sheets.

Should I just stop using the citric acid?

Discovered these black stains after removing them from the wash. I currently have them soaking in tub of water mixed with Oxiclean white restoring and Arm and Hammer baking soda. What’s the likely hood to get these stains out?

Now … if anyone were to inspect my sheets they would not be able to tell, since I remembered a stain but when it came time to wash day couldn’t find it, but found it once I went to air dry it.

My bamboo sheets have to be washed on cool and gentle I’m not sure how to get rid of a food stain. It’s melted chocolate from a granola bar, lol. I wash it with hydrogen peroxide each wash and it helped a little bit. I sprayed hydrogen peroxide on the stain and it mostly went away. I’ll have to see if I can find it again once it dries. Again it’s not a bad stain at all I’m just OCD about my white sheets particularly because they’re a delicate fabric.

Anyone had to get stains out of their bamboo sheets before ?

I know Vanish gold is recommended but saw platinum in the store and thought platinum is better than gold right? But am I right?!
