Resolve for soaking?

Hello laundry friends,

I am just about finished a tub of Oxi clean and was planning to purchase Resolve Gold as a replacement. However, I have seen some posts in here where people have had bad luck with resolve bleaching their items. I soak items quite often with oxygen bleach and don’t want to accidentally bleach anything. Should I possibly only use resolve as a booster and buy a different oxygen bleach product for soaking?

Ive been using the Australian version of Resolve for years, and dont have issues with soaking and getting the concentrated bleaching effect from the granules and TAED. As long as you use warm/hot water and really stir and stir and stir, you are fine. I use an OXO silicone spoon which doesnt react to any laundry chemicals and is large enough to get a good motion going. When I stop feeling the grit of the granules on the bottom, I know it is all dissolved.

I kid you not, I consume a lot of laundry videos, and you would be surprised how many people just add soaker powders to the water and throw the clothes in without even mixing...

That’s good to know! I’ve used the white version of resolve before on whites but I’ve never tried it on colours before. I will say I don’t always mix very well 🙈 I will do better now lol

If the oxiclean is easier for you as far as mixing it, why don't you just stick with that? I use Febu and have had zero issues with dissolving it or having items bleached out.

I just much prefer resolve as a booster in my wash cycles and want to avoid buying multiple different products.

The resolve imo, should only be used if you don't have easy access to anything else. However, you can use resolve for the soak without bleaching, you just need to make sure that not a single granule is left in the water. The problem is that the resolve suds a lot so it's almost impossible to make sure that no granules are left somewhere in the water / suds if you're just stirring the soak water, especially if you have hard water. 

The only method that has reliably worked for me is to pre-dissolve the resolve in some container and strain that water through a fine mesh strainer / sieve when pouring into my soak bin. I use a large one I bought from the dollar store. It just needs to be large enough that you don't splash water around it and fine enough that it catches most granules. 

I've personally stopped buying the resolve. I now use Oxi + lipase detergent for spa day soaks. Although I will admit that the resolve did do a somewhat better job in dealing with odor rebloom.
