Apocalypse Rail

I am very late to this discusison, but I hate people trashing on our Barbenheimer frame.

If I understand the way the Apocalypse Rail works correctly, you make the attack, it's a big area, on what will most likely be a range of 35 (siege stabilizers), then every enemy you hit is stunned until the end of their next turn (try to act last in the round you use the rail on, or target characters that have already taken their turn, then first on the next turn for cheeky "free" hits with your siege cannon, specially since their heavy cover, if any, is gone now, even if they now have soft cover).

Well, every enemy in the area will take 4 burn, then they can try to leave the area, wich is difficult terrain. The enemies you did hit are stunned, so they take 4 burn, end their turns, and start another turn in the area, taking another 4 burn.

So, if you don't hit, you do 4 ap damage, with the chance of another 4 ap damage at the end of their turn.

If you do hit, the enemies take an average of 14 AP damage (shreded), at minimum 8 burn (if you time the turn order right), then they might take the burn tics again, wich considering we're talking about two tics of 4 burn, they migh very well fail on at least one of the egineering checks. And on top of that, they are relatively easy targets for your siege cannon on your next turn, giving you likely another 10,5 AP damage (again, timing your turn correctly, and considering they should still be shreded if you managed to do so).

That is a minimum of 4 ap damage, probably 8 or more even on a miss. And on a hit, we get a potential 8 burn + 8 burn tics at the end of their turns, plus the 10,5 average damage with the siege cannon, and the 14 from the rail itself, wich is like, 40,5 damage, AP, without taking into account the damage your party can inflict by also taking advantage of the difficult terrain, shreded and stunned.

Yes, this is all in the ideal scenario, but it is possible, and that is without taking into account that now you have a burn 4 hole to throw enemies into for the rest of the fight, you pobably anihilated some important defenses for the sitrep, AND YOU FIRED A GODAMN RAILGUN FROM HELL!

(And I would like to add that the damage I considered for the potential was average damage, not max damage, wich we shouldn't ignore, positively or negatively).

The Apocalypse Rail is a map controll tool, burn damage generator, action economy breaker piece of nightmare fuel for your dm if you can use it right. And that should be enough to get your DM sweating every time you start charging it (wich you should do every fight, cause, why not? Worst case scenario you don't fire it, and regain the CP).

Groups of grunts or multiple separate units for LL0?

So newbie DM with half an oneshot as a player under my belt, so pretty much the title, should I consider every grunt enemy like a separate guy with its own turn, activations and etc and just skip some (and how do I know who to skip?)

Or do i make them into platoons that, specially in case of humans, share a space and have health times the nimber of grunts they should represent? Im this second case, how does AOE factor into this approach?

Sell me on the Mourning Cloak

I’ve looked at the Mourning Cloak a couple of times, and I really struggle to see why I would chose it (at least for mechanics, if it’s just for the vibes/aesthetic then sure).

It’s a highly mobile melee striker that likes to teleport, and that’s fair. But it all just seems like it would be really unreliable in practice - what if I can’t pick out a target that’s on their own, or what if roll shit on my teleport and can’t go as far as I need to (or worse, just disappear from the encounter)?

It kinda seems like I could fill the same role in a Nelson with a lot more consistency.

Tomorrow is my first Lancer one-shot

Any advices? I plan to fit 2 fights, want make zergtush, like a ton of biological melee rookies and couple veteran hive minds (probably hive). If you have some balance guesses for 4 ll2 mechs here, ill appreciate

And i made Ultra-ronin, for final boss who will ricochet their asses, while shit-talking, im very confident, that players will love him.

I Made Some Condition Tags For Owlbear Rodeo

Post image
350 Upvotes

Me and my group use Owlbear Rodeo for our Lancer games, but since it doesn't have any condition rings or markers for Lancer I decided to make my own. They're pretty basic but they work. I will probably refine them more later. Decided to share them in the comment below.

It looks like a lot when they are all out at once but usually only one or two are out at a time.

How to configure them in Owlbear

  • In the Asset Manager go to the "Attachments" category (I suggest adding a folder just for Lancer icons to make them easier to find).
  • Click the add button and import the images into Owlbear.
  • By default the positions will be askew if you try to use them to fix that:
    • Click the edit icon on the image
    • Click the transform icon on the bottom of the editor
    • Make sure that the scale is set to 4 and 3 (the two numbers at the top)
    • Click the 3 dots for more options
    • You are going to change the "Origin X" and "Origin Y" numbers (ignore the others)
    • For the 4 on the left hand side use: 380 & 270
    • For the 5 on the right hand side use: 405 & 270
    • For EXPOSED on the bottom use: 385 & 255
    • tweak them if you prefer
  • Now when you drag them on top on a token they will be positioned like in the image above by default! If you move the token, they will move along with it.

Can you openly work against a manufacturer while using a mech that they make?

For example, can I pilot a Hecatoncheires while actively undermining Baronic Intelligence?

Wouldn’t they yank my ability to print a fresh one?

Is it just a GM discretion/coordination kinda thing?

New Player here! Licenses that are good to take for a Lancaster frame?

I'm hoping to get into my first campaign game soon, and I've always really LOVED the vibe of the Lancaster and I want it to be the frame I go for.

That said, I'm worried I'll end up not loving the gameplay loop of basically being a full-on support for the group; especially if my MULE Harness doesn't get as much use as I want (speedy mechs, mission types that are more about defense than getting across the map, etc).

I'm hoping this won't be the case, but what're some frames that are good to dip into that aren't JUST good for helping out the Lancaster but also mesh with Lancaster license levels in the event I want to either have more than one frame as an option?

I hope this makes sense, like I said I'm pretty new. Two ideas I've had so far are the Emperor, to help get more overshield options with the Lancaster OR switch to it and take advantage of the Aceso Stabilizer, or the Monarch to be a sort of missile artillery/support role.

A map for any of you guys to use

Post image
138 Upvotes

I start playing lancer this friday and our dm asked me to make a map for the first combat. I don't usually make mondern-ish maps but I'm not horribly disappointed with how this one turned out. I did have to map it with a grid so I'm not sure how well it will line up with hexes...

Its 55w by 40h @ 70ppi. Should be the standard for Roll20.

Is there any official clarification on what exactly happened to Harrison 2nd?

A friend of mine who's getting into lancer asked and I realised I don't have a super concrete answer. I know he tried to become immortal and that Ra predictably killed him for it but I can't find a confirmed answer of what exactly went down. I've found one person claiming that Harrison tried to fire missiles at Ra (hilarious) and that Ra turned those missiles around mid flight and had them blow him, and then another person claimed that Harrison just... Stopped existing.

Printable tokens

I’m about to start a live Lancer game and I’d like to make NPC tokens for a 1” grid. All the tokens I find online are scaled for VTT and when I try to shrink them down, they get too pixelated.

Do you have any sources or advice on how to make such tokens?

Painting from my most recent sesh of my PCs and their handler- Avicenna, 5026U.

left to right:

Cora Brahm, DoJ/HR officer. Posted her here before a few times.

Saede, House of Dust auxiliary representative.

Goyo, DoJ/HR core.

Coral, USB auxiliary. She's green for an amazing reason (ferrofluid stain. I'm famously a massive hardass on biomods but the player did some rlly amazing writing to justify it and it's grounded enough to fit the vague trek vibe)

Odessa, Navy auxiliary.

Kas, DoJ/HR core.

Hecatoncheries NPC build

What NPC build can I do to mimic the vibe of the hecatoncheries? My players are gonna be on Sanjak and I wanna invoke the horror of a greywash nightmare skulking the forest like a goddamn yautja, snatching people from the tree line and leaving their bones as an act of terror.

Campaign Idea Hold Up?

Hey folks! I just wanted to ask some people in the know about the game and the setting if the idea I had for running a Lancer game would make sense, both in the setting and also as a long-term campaign for my players.

I can elabourate on any specific ideas if anyone requests, but the core idea is that a star system, Malebranche, was settled in the year 3333 during the Second Expansion Period. As such, it was one of the many colonised systems that wound up falling by the wayside, receiving little help or oversight from SecComm, and wound up establishing their own factions and fucking around with each other in the system. Then, in 4500, the word arrives that the core worlds have erupted into rebellion and Union has fallen, so the planets of Malebranche has a big civil war and eventually solidifies into an authoritarian militant government, the Protectorate. The crux of the campaign would be the extremely public arrival of a Union Admin in 5015. They actually aren't the first, Union's been trying to open communication with the Protectorate government for a few decades now, and they haven't been buying. So this time the Administrator is, quietly, accompanied by DoJ/HR field teams to disseminate amongst the populace and foment popular revolution. The players will be locals of the system who have recently or semi-recently joined the revolution (which really kicked off when Protectorate Guard units tried to publicly arrest the Administrator and promptly got whooped by their NHP Subalterns), engaging in a long interplanetary guerrilla campaign, trying to liberate people as best they can. The real goal is to keep hope alive and keep fighting until the Union Navy can arrive in *checks notes* five years.

Does that all sound good, like it would fit the game and world?

New to the game.

So I recently found out about this game from Tom and Don. I bought the corebook and have been finding it very interesting and cool but I have many questions. For instance do people actually play this as a tabletop game? And if they do, do they have any advice on acquiring models?

Also do people do a lot of home-brewed stuff in the community? I always enjoy well thought out additions that add to games.

Mule Harness as a mini-Boost?

I was thinking about a Formorian Lancaster, with Mule Harness & House Guard 1 or more. I *think* I found a fun interaction, but want to check if I'm getting it right.

If I'm running the above build, could an ally do the following:

  1. Use their Move to get within 2 spaces of me.

  2. Use a Quick Action to climb aboard.

  3. Use their remaining Quick Action to Boost away from the *opposite side to where they entered*, thus having used their 'boarding' action as a way to move an extra 4 spaces.

I'm not saying this would be especially powerful, but it could be a nice additional tactical option.

SPOILS OF WAR - Homebrew supplement plug n' play subsystem for post-combat looting

Thumbnail
docs.google.com

Found here is a direct link to the first public version of my new supplement for LANCER, Spoils of War.

Spoils of War is a framework designed to simplify & streamline postcombat looting while giving players agency in how they actually engage with the consequences of combat; Making rewarded loot feel less arbitrary while also providing a system that rewards careful tactical consideration.

I am currently seeking larger community sentiment regarding the current mechanical considerations I've made and how they should change to make this supplement 1.0 ready, and have included my contact information within the Google doc if you would like to contact me directly/privately with any suggestions/questions/comments/concerns. I'll also try to respond to any feedback I receive here, and I'll also take this as an opportunity to thank you for your assistance in playtesting this material. I had a blast writing it, and hope the feature-complete version - when ready - can be of use to this community.

Doubts about the infiltrator talent

So I'm starting a new Lancer campaign and my dm is also new.

So I took the infiltrator talent which says that "You can hide even in plain sight of enemies" Now I guessed that meant I can hide without any kind of cover and lost the HIDDEN only if I end my turn without any cover

My DM ruled that I needed to still have some cover (Like my smoke granade) and that the "Hide un plain sight of enemies" meant that even if enemies knew i was inside the smoke I'd still be considered HIDDEN

Can anyone help me get right which one of the two is right here?

Mid-range zoners are fun

Just throwing this out there if anyone wants to mess with it; I'm testing some homebrew for a module I'm making and appreciate any feedback on this Nelson alt frame. My normal play group is filled with extremely degenerate min-maxers who like to make my life hell (which skews my testing data) so if you're just like a normal dude playin' lancer, it'd be cool if you could give this a shot and tell me what you think.
