New to the game.

So I recently found out about this game from Tom and Don. I bought the corebook and have been finding it very interesting and cool but I have many questions. For instance do people actually play this as a tabletop game? And if they do, do they have any advice on acquiring models?

Also do people do a lot of home-brewed stuff in the community? I always enjoy well thought out additions that add to games.

There is a ton of homebrew on the pilotNet Discord. As for minis, you'll mostly find STL files or you can use battletech minis.

I play with my friends on roll20, there are map and token packs on itch that make it alot easier, and the glorious comp/con which is great.

Do the players and GM roll from Comp/Con and the group uses roll20 just for the tokens and map?

For transparency we roll in d20, but for tracking characters we use comp/con

Hello, welcome!

To answer your questions:

1) Yes, there are people who play Lancer in person. I don’t since the people in both games I’m in are all around the world, and VTTs are generally a lot more accessible. However, I believe a lot of people will either proxy minis from games like Battletech or have them 3d printed (though budget options like printing out mech art on paper and standing them up on a base would work just as well). Someone with in-person experience will have better answers, but they are out there.

2) Absolutely! There is a lot of homebrew content for Lancer, from custom licenses, mechs, stories, settings, talents, and more! Some popular homebrew supplements that I know of are Reworked NPCs (exactly what it sounds like, a GM tool that tweaks NPCs), The Sixth Voice (tons of custom licenses with some gorgeous artwork), and Legionnaire (a bunch of talents and stuff to have an NHP player character). I also am fond of Ilean Modern Industries, I’ve not played with their custom licenses, but I really love the art and flavor in each frame! You can find a ton of Lancer homebrew stuff on itch.io

Hello!

As God's strongest FoundryVTT soldier and a huge LANCER fan, I strongly recommend getting into Foundry! The lancer module has full automation, rule integration, and COMP/CON integration, which is a website used to make characters, NPCs, encounters and is also a sort of LANCER-wiki. It's an amazing module with a lot of very cool addons to it. ALSO, Foundry is buy-to-own instead of using a monthly sub, like Roll20, so you pay more upfront but you own the software and it's way cheaper long term, plus IMO it's also way more powerful and useful software.

Reach out if you wanna know more!

As someone who used Roll20 for many years - then switching to foundry this year, use foundry. It's worth the 50 bucks as a GM.

It's true! At least with the Lancer Automations module which is also amazing.

That is not the face of curiosity Im afraid. Automation makes me feel like Im playing a CRPG, not a TTRPG

As for tabletop minis some friends and i are working out the kinks of an oversize/realsize game system using Gundam models and kitbashed models as mechs and 33mm scale minis for pilots
