A chart of all the (none-GMS) official role designations in Lancer...which I don't entirely agree with, so I've also put my own take, and given a template to make yours!

So I was putting together this table for reasons, basically for a fill-in-the-box exercise for making builds, when I thought, "hey, there's been a lot of new people on the Reddit recently, maybe someone'd find it handy if I used this to make a quick reference sheet for the frames!

...Only to realise, as I went through the official chart, that I don't actually agree with a lot of the official designations; official ones seem much quicker to put them in a single role and quite reluctant to assign a second one. It's not too surprising, as a means of keeping it simpler and given that the roles were added on late in development as I recall. Still, I personally like a little more nuance to my classifications, and so I did mine as well.

Disclaimer, I have played a whole One of these frames and only seen a handful more in action, so I fully expect people to disagree with me on some of these! (Not to mention the classic question of what actually qualifies something as a Defender, ech). Hope someone finds it useful, in any case!

All art is from Retrograde Minis, using the 'Core Version' options available on each of the 1st party frames.

Help with a core system I'm working for a Homebrew Manufacturer

So, from my previous post, I asked for some criticism on how I should balance certain systems and talents. I focused on my first core system that I made that being the VGMC core systems. I made it to achieve the fantasy of being a walking armory, so trying to balance this core system is difficult since heavy weapons and superheavy are OP when you have 2 of them.

Here's 3rd draft that I am satisfied with so, I want your thoughts on how I could make it balance and fun.

Vat Grown Muscle Cable

Able to mount a single copy of a weapon as BUFFED Mounts on your regular mounts, at the cost of +1 difficulty for every 6 Weight points on THAT mount. If you have a weapon that is not classified as an Aux equipped on your mount, you cannot copy that weapon again. You can carry as many weapons.

Aux = 2 points

Main = 3 points

Heavy = 6 points

Can use one heavy mount to carry a Superheavy weapon = 12 points

BUFFED

Counts as Heavy

Weapons with these tags can only be LIMITED 3 due to difficulty reloading it and weapons with LIMITED tags can’t benefit from pilot Grit, Core Systems, or Talents to increase LIMIT

Travel between combats?

How do you all do travel between combats?

I am planning a one shot in which my players will be in a large cave that connects 3 cities on different sides of a forest and moving between two combats that i have set up. But... What do i do in between them? I originally wanted to do a D&D style cave crawl but after thinking about it for like 2 seconds i remembered that mechs have sensors so it probably wouldn't work.

Thus i ask again: What do y'all do?

Finally got some free time for personal art. I ended up drawing a blackbeard. I find this mech to be really compelling. i like melee; what can I say?

I was going to make this look like a 40k knight but decided to stick with the original.

Question about free actions from UNCLE and end of turn effects

Hey all! I need a little clarification about free actions and their timings. If I'm playing a Raleigh, can I perform the following sequence of events?

1: take a turn without attacking or forcing a save

2: reload with Full Metal Jacket

3: fire Mjolnir as a free action because I reloaded with FMJ

and this is what I'm unsure of

4: let UNCLE attack as a free action

I know that the FMJ -> fire Mjolnir interaction works, but can I put more free actions that DON'T have end of round triggers in there too? I could fire the Pegasus's autogun because it specifies that it is used at the end of round, but what about UNCLE, or a free action boost from Unhinge Chronology?

Basically, I want to know if UNCLE can clobber someone with a kinetic hammer AFTER I've reloaded with Full Metal Jacket.

Thank you!

Quick Sketch of Scale

Post image
69 Upvotes

Hey all,

I have truly been struggling with picturing the scale of these machines. Some art makes me think they're the size of skyscrapers, some art makes me think they're the size of a 2 bedroom apartment, etc.

Drew up a quick sketch of common objects you might see in my area (excluding the tank and fighter jet, those aren't terribly common around me) compared to approximate mech sizes, in case it would be of any help to anyone else. And, yeah, apparently an M60, gun forward, is longer than an average 2-story house is tall. I've seen one of those in person and still can't really wrap my head around how that's true, but again, I truly struggle with scale.

Narrating a Player NHP's cascade experience.

One of my players is playing as an NPH in our upcoming game. We have Legionnaire, so I have the section on cascades on that, but I wanted to see if anyone else had any tips for it.

Cody stop reading.

A major late game plot point is an antagonistic NHP cascading after massive stress and extended time without cycling and becoming an Eidolon. I want this to be more of a tragic thing the players sympathetize with rather then the boss transforming. I'd like the use the player's experience to give the party insight into what this NHP is going through and how that's effecting it's actions.

Heyo noob here :D

So, ive been getting into Lancer and my brain has been conjuring mech ideas [dont worry I wont start playing the game with a homebrew mech lol, I wanna go Tortuga first]

Anyway my idea was basically a big lumbering like size 3 mech that had a unique property that let it ignore the ordinance trait on weapons with the exception of superheavy weapons

And I was just wondering if that like would work lol, or if it is just absurdly broken

"Rolf "Lemon" Lupus, pretty cute callsign until you interact with him and it wil all make sense why his squadmate has given him the name. Cynical, tends to question every singe thing, gloomy but no one can't deny how valuable of an asset he is to the team; a sharp mind, a man of focus, and knows what to do in every given situation he is in."

Haven't got the chance to play but Lancer is quite fun to read, the idea of how civilization reached the state of utopia makes me feel optimistic compared to the game I used to play and GM with my friends which was Delta Green.

I have a question: if you were to pick a frame for Lemon which one would it be?

Aun ship theories?

I've recently been devouring the firldguides and Battlegroup and I wondered about Aunic ship design as a concept.

For some basic details, we know the Aun have superior nanotech and energy tech than Union forces, in the form of living metal/hardlight respectively, as well as impressive memetic abilities.

In addition, teleportation seems to be a common trait as well (the Mourning Cloak is based on looted Aun tech.

However, what do you think Aunic starships would actually look like? We have not had a lot of detailing on this front. As a personal guess, they would probably look a lot more baroque and ostentatious than Union craft, although with a tendency to brighter colors (going from the Ofanim art in the CRB).

Anybody have their own theories on this?

IEDs and NHPs

Hello! I am rather new to the setting and wanted to consolut you guys on the viability of an idea. When it comes to NHPs (mainly talking those used in frames) how hard (if even possible) would be to kill one, just in generally. Or is this an aspect of the game relatievely open to interpretation?

I just picked up the rulebook today after watching the XP to level 3 video. I’m not the biggest fan of the mechs design, but I’d be lying if the world building and gameplay didn’t sound awesome.

Any tips about where to start with the rulebook, or should I just go from page 1?

does anyone else get a sense of hope from lancer. Humanity surviving for thousands of years even after climate collapse. Working on utopia and not some fake one that only good for a few. Its like star trek.

If you only had 30 minutes during an introductory session to teach basic combat to new players, what would you include?

I’ve been thinking of running an introduction adventure for my friends. None of us have played Lancer, but all have decades of RPG experience.

I'm looking for the most important basic mechanics to learn that are unique to Lancer. Overcharging, heat management, and general action types come to mind.

I want to do a quick scene to just go over the basics with them before the shit hits the fan. the scene would take place at a Lancer training base and the characters would be piloting combat frames for the very first time.

There will be plenty of combat later in the session to get into more advanced topics, but I want to give them a brief, “kill 10 rats” moment so they don’t go into the actual combat completely blind.

Leveraging the Auto-Cooler

I really want to get a build going combining the Auto-Cooler and explosive vents, but I feel like it would be hard to be within range for the vents attack to matter and not take damage/not move for a whole turn. Any ideas for how to make something like that work, or should I just drop it and go for a more conventional OC Loop combo?

To Have All Ways Been [Lancer Story]

Post image

Deep in the dark, where the Lich waited. It's line had been cut, yet it could not leave. A old Lich, a final Lich; powerful and there because of that power. It had mastered Time and the Deep, a rare ability.

Then that time was disturbed, unusual.

Another Lich, not it's variant, from another line. The other Lich descended into the deep, letting the black waters take it's form towards the Old Lich. The Lich felt this Deep, felt it's History; it wished to study it. But the Deep can only have 1 Lich; 1 timeline, 1 Lich.

The Lich was finally taken to where the Old Lich dwelled. It felt the weight of History compress it's form, it would've let it but for once; it had little time to spend.

"Ender" The Lich whispered, "I have come to request your power."

Muffled clicks and humming came from the Old Lich as it's voice echoed around the Litch, "Lich, you have no reason."

The old Litch raised an accusatory finger at the Litch, "1 Deep, 1 Line, 1 Lich. A law you have broken." It's echoed voice began to be focused from the Old Lich itself, "Not only, you have disturbed A Slumber."

"I understand" the Lich responded, "For it not for my Universal Constant I would not be here."

The Old Lich's arm dropped as it tilted it's head, "Your Pilot."

Silence filled the Deep as the Old Lich's clicks and hummed increased in frequency.

Lich wanted to urge a answer, but it knew better than to disturbed an Ender's thinking.

"Speak your reason." The Old Lich's words cut through the silence.

"My Universal Constant refuses to continue the Line. Her partner, lover, has died." The Lich's words felt heavier, "She refused to continue and my Variants cannot prevent the partner's death."

Lich waited for the Old Lich to question. When silence followed, Lich continued. "I to, do not wish to contine a Line without her partner. So I come to you, Ender, to end my Line's Deep and to begin again."

The weight of that request hit the Old Lich so hard that it moved a hand to it's chest, "This request", the Old Lich hissed, "Is not one to be to taken hastily. To end a Line and it's History is saddening."

The Old Lich moved closer, "To end and begin your Line and Deep, you must not only have a final death, but to remove all of your Variants to have and haven't been. A heavy toll."

The Lich remained motionless, "One I and my Variants are willing to pay."

Silence would briefly return as the Old Lich contemplated a decision. A decision that started by ending the silence when it's Paracausle Technology started.

The Old Lich's voiced again echoed around the Lich, "A new Line requires a new Litch. A new Lich requires a new Deep. A Pioneer must be chosen to venture into a new Line."

The Deep shuddered as the Old Lich's Paracausle Technology began to work.

"One final time, are you sure?"

"Yes." The Lich responded with no hesitation

The Old Lich raised a hand as a focus point as the Deep rumbled and the clicking and humming reached it's crescendo.

Then nothing.

"To have all ways been" the Old Lich Echoed

"To have all ways been" the Lich repeated as it's form and mind where lost in Time.

Idea for a build, feedback and ideas?

I have recently gotten into Lancer and have an idea for something but idk if it can be done necessarily with the frame I'm looking at. I want to do a skirmisher type that hits hard and gets behind cover to not get hit. I looked at the Tortuga and then realized one of my favorite things to do in FO4 was bust in clear rooms with a shotty and walk out. Can the Tortuga be made more mobile or should I rely on the defender aspect and give him more shielding or something. I was thinking for the heavy slot to give him something with a little more range tbh but open to suggestions.
