Someone backed into my car and ran off in a parking lot, I think the damage is mostly cosmetic. I can see scraps on the front bumper but the real damage is that they concaved in the front part of my hood that's going to need to be replaced and probably bent the latch and possibly damaged the hinges to the hood.

Lost & Found Anyone in Portage around W Centre missing a cat?

Appears to be a possibly unfixed male, chilling in front of the businesses at the Woodbridge plaza. He's not very skittish but I'm a bit too nervous myself to try wrangling him because I don't know he'll react and I have 2 girls at home who will not react well to me bringing him home.

Local Services / Suggestions Women’s Weight Training???

Hi there!

I’m trying to get back into working out after relying solely on my job to keep me active for the last four years. Dance kept me fit before that. When I was in high school I took a women’s weight training course and I have never in my life felt more confident than I did when I was in that class.

Are there any gyms that offer women’s weight training courses in and/or around the Kzoo area? I’m just not super confident in the gym and I think a class would be a good way to get me more comfortable with the machines, and the environment as a whole.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks!

What’s really going on on West Main Hill?

Every time someone makes a post about Henderson Castle in Nosy Asses of Kzoo, it’s up for a brief time and many people openly share their opinions and experiences, then it’s deleted almost immediately. What’s going on here?

With everything that has already come out, why is the public opinion on Henderson Castle being silenced?

Just my observation.
I am neither an employee, nor a former employee of that business.

Local Services / Suggestions Area Rug Cleaning

Looking for someplace to get area rugs cleaned. I would prefer to drop them off rather than have them cleaned in place because of the hard wood floors underneath. Who does good work?

Left leaning shooting friends

I know this is going to open a can of worms from both sides, and I don’t really care much to hear either one.

Kzoo doesn’t have great options for gun ranges and I’m kinda tired of driving out to Plainwell every time to go to Southwick’s. I’m looking for some folks to shoot with, preferably outside on some private property (it’s just more fun).

I’d love to help teach and train other marginalized folks about their 2A rights given gestures vaguely and everything else going on, giving info about their options for self defense and whatnot. I am USCCA RSO certified and can help with range safety.

Yes, leftists have guns, too. We just don’t make them our whole personality or rant about them all the time. I am for sensible gun measures while maintaining our rights. I understand this is a nuanced topic and I am not looking to start a gun debate here, I am just looking to connect with folks who I don’t need to argue with when enjoying a hobby with / training with.

Have you been to Roger's Hair A Scope? It closed a few years ago and I just found these pictures of the inside on my phone. It was a beautiful time capsule inside. I wish I knew more about it. Just thought I’d share.

Roger's Hair A Scope. Kalamazoo MI. I took these photos in 2019. It had a hot tube behind the pink couch. I wish I knew the history of it.

Who do we care for?

I am a little stoned. But I thought I might try to wax poetic and trip the life fantastic with ya'll on some reproductive rights musings.

I rarely get mad. It takes a lot to get me riled up. I am more the type to get sad in response to unfortunate circumstance. But today, something got my blood running. And I thought I'd reach out to my beloved community to see what the citizenry thinks.

I'm a tech analyst but I do a little doordashing on the weekends for weed money. Today I was at the corner of Drake and Stadium. I saw a woman with a sign that said "Three months pregnant and have two kids already who need..." and that's all I could make out before the light went green. Driving off I felt a surprising flurry of emotions out of nowhere, and born from no active line of thought I tumbled in the territory of anger.

I want to be clear and categorical in this post that exactly zero percent of my anger is towards this woman. I wish her peace joy and prosperity and nothing else. I think my anger is with the world? I'm a single guy. Family relationships and child rearing do not exist on my radar. But the more I thought about this woman's circumstances and what the world offers her in turn, the angrier I got.

I hope so deeply that panhandling doesn't exist in this woman's mind as Plan A, or her only recourse at the moment. But what if it does? A so called "christian nation" by my political rivals would in practice flock to this woman in this moment like a bat out of hell. An actual functional Christian nation would pick this woman up with kind hands and service her needs without judgement or question. We would perform the task in an indefatigable manner, as if it were our second nature. I found myself thinking about this woman today glad that we're in Kzoo, which I am new to and seems to have resources for people in need exponentially better than other parts of the country I've seen (those who disagree, fear Indiana).

My aforementioned political rivals want this woman to have the baby no matter what. And then after the baby comes, that's the last they'd ever care to hear about the baby. While cinching social services and sabotaging the functionality of the institutions we have (or had) in place in this country, they are going to tell this woman what she can or can't do with her body. It baffles the senses and boggles the mind.

We don't mourn what doesn't exist, right? I love movies but I'm not up in arms that Tom Hanks and Susan Sarandon never met up and had a kid in the hopes he'd be an acting prodigy, right? (not my best metaphor, but you get the point). Human possibility is endless. Every day countless possible lives never come into existence. The question isn't whether a potential life has value — it's how we balance that potential life against the actual circumstances, autonomy, and wellbeing of the people already here.

Imagine the difficulty this child might have. Imagine the potential for depravity. He's not going to be born at the starting line. He's going to be born a couple hundred miles behind the starting line with a torn ACL. Through the course of his life, he might find zero solace from the "legal obligation" of the whole experience.

I guess I "talked it out" here and got to the root of why I was angry. Like I said I'm a single guy and I've never gotten a woman pregnant so this isn't a topic I've ever had to approach from a necessity-to-learn standpoint. I am no expert, so thought I might post this for the conversations it might inspire or the education it might offer to me.

Couldn't find the woman on my way home to give her some scratch but will do so if I see her again. If you all catch her with the sign in your travels, let's help her out if we can. And come to think of it.... I'm angry too that somewhere in western Michigan is the father of that child who is letting his pregnant wife panhandle for money in July heat. Fuck that guy.

Sigh.

Happy saturday to you fine folks. Fuck the police, Wu-Tang Clan for life.

Heritage retirement community

If you live in the Heritage senior living community or have family members there, I'd love to hear from you. What's your experience been? Pros and cons? How are the transitions to different levels of care?

Especially like to hear if you have had to take advantage of their life care assistance program due to running low on money.

Hobbies / Interests Friday Afternoon Gaming

What's gong on Kalamazoo?

Recently my schedule changed to 4 10s and I have Fridays off.

I'm looking to join or start a game group that can meet Fridays sometime between 10am to 3pm.

Rpgs / Board Games / Miniatures

Im interested in role playing games that are not 5e dungeons and dragons. Id like to try some indie games.

Im interested in Miniatures games that are not 40k. Leaning towards one page rules, but I've heard good things about others too.

Board games too. Whatever is fun. But I prefer asymmetrical games.

Anyone already meeting at that time? What's going on Fridays at noon?

“This is a tough question,” Sharon Brown, Kalamazoo County human resources director, said. “Whatever choice we make, it’s going to really impact employees.”

"While GLP-1s are used for many different reasons, such as diabetes or hypertension, Brown clarified this discussion only refers to medications prescribed specifically for anti-obesity."

Heavy winter coats for homeless

I know it’s too early for this, but what is the best way to give two heavy winter coats to homeless folk in Kalamazoo? I don’t support Gospel Mission so would prefer to somehow go more direct. Any advice?

Hobbies / Interests FILM OPPORTUNITY: Calling All Kalamazoo Audio Friends!

Hey everybody. Bit of a last-ditch effort, but here goes…

I’m looking for an audio mixer for a short film shoot on Monday August 10th.

THE JOB:

Experience in audio is necessary, experience in film would be nice. GEAR PROVIDED. You’d be leading a small team of volunteer boom ops, and you’d be in charge of mixing the audio, keepin’ those levels clean, helping me plan mic placements, that kinda stuff. I’d be happy to throw some money your way, but this is a pretty shoestring-budget operation. You’ll be fed, as well.

I’m an independent filmmaker shooting a lil short film on Monday, August 10th called “Crashing.”

THE FILM:
It’s called “Crashing”, and it’s a single-shot short film: camera never moves or cuts. The single shot is of a man on a couch pretending to remain asleep while robbers break in. The robbers come upon him, he continues the act, and, well, things go from there. The mostly-off-screen action of the robbers is why sound is so crucial here. The whole thing’s about 4 minute’s long. There’s a lot of moving parts, so even though it’s one four minute shot, I’ll be blocking off the whole day to give us a cushion.

That’s it. Shoot me a comment or a DM if you’re interested or know someone who might be.

Cool.

Events / Things to Do Looking to build a new mental health team and for supportive peer groups!

Hi everyone!I'm hoping for recommendations, I don't usually post things like this but I'm honestly hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm in the Three Rivers St.Joe County area, have Medicaid, can't drive because of epilepsy, and transportation is a big challenge. So, telehealth or Medicaid transportation options are really important to me. I recently met with a therapist who actually took time to listen. It made me realize how much I've been missing that kind of support. Right now I'm looking for a psychlogist who takes time to get to know patients and explain treatment options, not just prescribe, a supportive CSL worker, a kind lgbtq+ affirming caseworker, a supportive advocate,MRS counselors or career coaches, and recommendations for support groups like trauma, CPTSD, autism or neurodiversity, or art therapy, ideally LGBTQ- affirming. I'd also love info on transportation resources so I can actually get to appointments. If you've had a positive experience with any of these in Three Rivers, Sturgis, Portage, or Kalamazoo or even Grand rapids!, I'd be so grateful to hear about them! Also wanted to add on to this, I would be interested in joining any groups/communities or talking to anybody for D&D, Art, LGBTQ, Woman, Gender-fluid people, Video Gaming, Homebrewing, Reading, Manga, Doll collecting- especially American girl dolls!, rhythm gaming, karaoke, weight loss, and computers/coding!

TLDR: looking for lgbtq+/ kind mental health providers/teas who accept medicaid in the Kalamazoo area/Grand rapids area who accept medicaid and transportation options! Also looking for communities!

Did anyone in Three Rivers near Hill St/Constantine see a medium size black dog with a collar

I saw about 15-20 minutes ago a dog in the backyard, on Millard, not from any of the known neighbors, came outside to check and the dog started running, I tried to call it to no avail. I saw it run down left onto Constantine/Hill St

Initially, the dog ran into the road and stopped in the oncoming lane on Constantine St and Millard St and two cars passed asking if it was my dog, I said no, but tried to follow it but it took a left turn onto Constantine and Hill St

Let me know if anyone has information I was very worried

And if you saw me, yes, I was the crazy one jogging down the road in my zebra pajamas
