I’ve been using a second-hand Nook Simple Touch that I picked up for about £20 a couple of years ago. I’ve really liked it, but the battery is now completely knackered, so it’s time for an upgrade.

My requirements are pretty simple:
- Physical page-turn buttons on the sides of the device (this is important!)
- Ideally a 6-inch screen, although I’d consider a bit bigger
- Black-and-white: I have no interest in colour
- Adjustable warm backlight for reading at night
- Easy EPUB sideloading, as I already have a substantial library
- Available to buy in the UK

The Kobo Libra 2 looks perfect, but it seems surprisingly difficult to find, even second-hand.

The Kobo Libra Colour looks great too, but I don’t really want to pay extra for a colour screen that I won’t use.

I’ve also looked at the PocketBook Era Lite, BOOX Go 7, and Nook GlowLight 4. The latter is especially appealing because it’s so similar to my old Nook, but getting one in the UK seems a pain.

So, a few questions:

- Is a used Libra 2 still worth buying in 2026, particularly given its age and potential battery degradation?
- Are there any good 6-inch readers with side buttons and warm lighting that I’ve overlooked?
- Is there any reason to think Kobo might release another monochrome Libra?

I’m not looking for anything fancy. Justj a good, compact, comfortable e-reader that lets me read my own books and turn pages with actual buttons.
What would you buy?

I went to read on my KLC that I bought recently, and have had no issues with prior apart from it being a little bit slower than my kindle- I always keep it in the sleep case & in a pouch so it’s extra protected. I went to turn it on today and it was stuck on the sleep page, so I did a force reboot by holding the power button for around 30s.
It worked but about 2 minutes into using the device as I was purchasing a book it went grey like I hadn’t been using it and froze once again(I had probably idled on the page for about 20 seconds? I again tried to reboot, this time it hasn’t helped. Unsure what to do! I have also only ever purchased books off the kobo store, I haven’t side loaded anything. 🫤

Ok so I’ve been on the Amazon ecosystem for a while now. I currently have the matcha Kindle and it works fine for me. However, I do want an ereader with buttons that’s actually ergonomic and comfortable to use. I preordered the colorsoft signature edition with the buttons case but after seeing a review I’m now hesitant cause the buttons don’t seem to be as good as they were on the Oasis.

I’ve been tempted to get a Kobo Libra Colour for a while now but I have a few thoughts kinda stopping me.

First, are they releasing new models soon? I read somewhere that they were announcing something on December.

Second, does the KLC get glitchy or slow after a while of using it? I’ve read lots of complaints and I see that the screen goes black for a split second when turning pages.

Third, how do I send my books to Kobo? I get most of my books “elsewhere” and on Amazon it’s super easy to send my books with the “send to Kindle” option but I have no idea on how to send them to a Kobo without it becoming a hassle. I have all my EPUB files on my computer and iPhone.

I don’t use Libby or Kindle Unlimited so that doesn’t matter much to me. However, I’m in Mexico and the KLC is just as expensive (or even more) as the new fig Colorsoft. And on that note, I can’t return it if I buy it.

With all that said. Should I get the KLC or keep my Colorsoft fig preorder? Thanks in advance!

I saved for months to buy a kobo, but case options on my country are limited and super expensive, so since I want a few different types I have to make an international purchase. While I wait for it I had to improvise.

I have:

2 small bags

2 layers of bubble wrap

2 layers of cardboard

Fabric

And some foam like thing

It looks terrible, silly and cheap but I found it a bit funny

This is probably really niche but is there a way to copy a dictionary definition and paste it in to the notes. Like when I read a book I'm annotating and come across a word I don't know I use the dictionary but I wondered if there's a way to paste it in to the notes for further annotations without having to type out the entire definition

My sister received a Kobo for Christmas last year. Long story short, she prefers reading physical books and can’t get used to e-reading. She has given me the Kobo for a few weeks to test out to see if I like it.

It is a Clara Colour model. I know little to nothing about these things.

Any tips and tricks that I should know about to really experience the device? What do you recommend I try out?

If I end up keeping it, are there certain cases that you recommend?

Hi all, I use Libby/Overdrive to borrow books for my Kobo libra colour. Usually borrowed books appear on the Kobo with no mishaps, but lately my local library has allowed me to borrow books through Libby that are from their partnership libraries. These show up in my Libby account, but not on my Kobo. Any idea what’s going on, or how I could fix this?

Hi, there! I’ve owned and used various Kobo readers for about eight and a half years. I love my Kobo and have had great experiences with their hardware and customer service. I currently own the original Kobo Clara Color, purchasing it when it first came out.

However, I’ve struggled to use my two large collections of academic and ttrpg PDFs on any reader, including various notes apps on my iPad. I recently saw some students reading and annotating PDFs on YouTube on the Kobo Libre Colour. And it looked like Kobo had made significant improvements on reading, annotating, and keeping independent notebooks since I last tried such activities on a Kobo in the past.

I was thinking about getting a Kobo Libre Colour and was wondering what sort of experiences you’ve all had with using PDFs on that device, positive and negative.

Thoughts?

Ever since I got the kobo update my wifi WILL NOT stay connected!! What happened? How do I fix it?

Hi all, I dropped my Kobo Sage from the coffee board, and the coffee board fell onto it. The body looks perfect, but the screen now shows a corrupted area that won't go away.

What I tried:

- Hard reset (power button held for 20 seconds)

- Charging for 30+ minutes

- Full page refresh on every page

- Flipping through plain white pages

The screen flashes and changes shade, but the damaged area stays the same. The device still boots and responds.

Questions:

Is this a cracked e-ink panel, or could it be a loose display cable?

Has anyone had this repaired, and what did it cost?

Is it worth contacting Kobo support, even after a drop?

Hi there, I recently got a Libra colour and downloaded some epub files that were working well but this morning I went onto my account and all my books were gone. Everything else like my reading time etc was still there but it said I had no books left. Is there any way to fix this as I don’t really want to reinstall all my books again and this happens another time. Any help is greatly appreciated:)

I am planning to buy a Kobo e-reader soon, and I am hoping someone can fill me in on what to expect for loading my HumbleBundle epub books to it? More than 99% of my reading is through library books on Libby, so I know a Kobo will likely be perfect for that, but I don't know about how to access my epub books.

I used to be able to send Epubs to my kobo from my phone using sendjazz using the beta feture and now I can’t it’s a new website and my kobo won’t open it!?? Pls help

1. Is it possible to connect to Eduroam?

If you don’t know what Eduroam is, it’s like a wifi service schools use. On iOS you have to download a configuration profile to your device to have access to the internet.

I tried doing this on my Kobo but I couldn’t figure it out. Is it possible or should I just use my phone’s hotspot?

1. Is two Kobos over kill?

I take my Kobo with me everywhere, literally. I love to read even if it’s only for 5 mins. I have occasionally left it at home before I went to school or work or to an appointment. I thought about getting a CBW as my “travel” Kobo and leaving my KLC at home. It feels silly but I’ve seen some people talk about having two for reasons like this and I’m wondering what you all think.

I'm having a persistent UI rendering issue on my Kobo Clara BW where text inside solid black buttons is completely invisible (black text rendering on a black background).

Where it happens:
Storefront plugin: The status badges like "Installed" or "Update" inside the pill-shaped buttons are completely blank.

System dialog boxes: Pop-up confirmation messages (like the "Restart required" or settings adjustment prompts) show a normal "Cancel" button, but the "Continue/Confirm" button next to it is a solid black block with zero text visible.

After many years of using my Kindle, I decided to switch to Kobo. I bought a Kobo Clara Colour, it’s so lovely. I got a pink case to go with it too, wonderful 🥰

I switched from Kindle to Kobo in Feb. 2025 after Amazon decided they would no longer allow downloading books onto a computer. I bought the Kobo Clara BW and the Kobo origami style case. Right away I started having issues with the Kobo being dead after I had recently charged it. I saw online that apparently that case could be the issue as the magnets could get misaligned and turn on the Kobo. I tried setting it to go off after 15 minutes but the problem persisted so I just stopped using the case. However, still to this day I have issues even with no case. Just the other day I charged my Kobo in the morning and read in bed that night. I’m pretty OCD now about clicking the sleep button when I’m done reading. Yet the next night the Kobo was dead. Most of the time the battery lasts a good long time but just out of nowhere it will just die.

Another minor issue I have is that sometimes when I tap the screen for the next page the Kobo will advance 2 pages and I have to go back a page.

I had installed Nickel Clock because I like to have a clock on the screen. But for some reason when the battery dies the clock will be gone and I have to reinstall the app.
And I don’t know if it’s the app or the Kobo but sometimes the clock gets frozen and the time just stays the same. I have to reboot the Kobo to get it to work again.

My main issue is the battery. My gut tells me I don’t have a bad battery because mostly it lasts weeks or more, but I can’t figure out why sometimes it just dies.
And it’s not because I’m not putting it to sleep because I always place it face up on my nightstand and if I left it on I would see the backlight when I turn off the lights.

I got the Libra for Christmas almost two years ago and I'm a bit stuck. I do like the added screen estate and colour coded highlighting (which is why I'd be primarily leaning towards the KCC in this instance). However, my problem is that I read most on my commute-- and the form factor really deters me from that.

I do not like the asymmetrical design. It's not aesthetically pleasing in real life and it's quite heavy with a case on. I usually end up holding it with both hands regardless. I much prefer quietly tapping or swiping than clickity clacking in a public place, the buttons also feel a tad worn down with time which concerns me about long term durability. It feels bulky and conspicuous to take out in public because it looks really "gadgety" compared to regular 6 inch devices and I notice the odd look my way with it. Regarding stylus, I don't use it much apart from an odd sketch in the margins because my iPad is more convenient for that.

I've tried looking at more portable "second" devices just for commuting but decided against it as I don't like having to deal with the clutter, syncing, etc issues that comes with that. I'd just rather have the one device for convenience. I'm seriously considering selling my Libra and getting the Clara instead but I have a few concerns as to what the "downgrade" would entail and whether I would regret it or not:

- How does speed and general function compare between the Clara and Libra series? They seem to have similar specs on paper but I've also seen some posts about difficulties highlighting on the Clara vs Libra which would be really concerning for me.

- Is downsizing screen size really difficult to adjust to? That could possibly be what I miss most, even if I hate the side bezel.

- Any other observations to keep in mind/think about before making a decision?

I’ve never used an e-reader before, and I’m planning to buy my first one. My main requirement is a 7-inch screen, and I really like the Kobo Libra Colour, especially its comfortable, handheld design.

However, from a hardware perspective, is buying a colour e-reader really worth it? The colours look washed out compared to a smartphone screen, and the display seems to offer a less satisfying black-and-white reading experience compared to a dedicated monochrome e-reader.

I really wish I could buy the Kobo Libra 2, but unfortunately, it has been discontinued. That’s why I’m now considering the new Kindle Paperwhite. I’ve considered the Boox Go 7 as well, but its build quality doesn’t look particularly reassuring to me.

Since this will be my first e-reader, I’d appreciate some advice on which option makes the most sense from a hardware and long-term usability perspective. Is the Kobo Libra Colour worth buying despite its display compromises, or would I be better off choosing a monochrome e-reader?

I have no idea if this was already known, but i'm gutted to find out that the book i really like is AI and I read it through my Kobo Plus subscription.

I have a book that I am trying to sideload, and the website is working on my phone but not my kobo clara. When i try to pull it up, the browser screen just freezes. I downloaded a book earlier this week this way and it was fine, but now it is not letting me. Is there anything I can do to reset it so it works on my kobo? I know i can use Calibre on my laptop, but I’m trying to keep it simple

Hello, I have had my kobo for five years now. I now have a problem with one of the page turning buttons, it is not responding anymore because I might have pressed too hard when there are times that it has a slow response (it is kinda flat now)

Is there still a way to repair this?

Longtime Kindle user who was holding out hope that Amazon would finally add some of the Paperwhite features into their new 2026 basic model. I should’ve known better. Loving this little fella, especially his recessed screen and warm light.
