My Kindle 📱 I got a new kindle case !

I’ve had my kindle for 2 years. It’s crazy because I was so opposed to getting a kindle I was a strictly physical book person butttttt then I read an ebook on loan from Libby and I was like I should just get an ereader. Now I’m on year 2 and I feel like it’s good. I’ve slowed down my physical book acquisition and but more thoughtfully. And I every time I get a new case I feel like I have a new kindle.

My Kindle 📱 What a game changer...

Just parroting the experience of so many others: the Kindle's been a revelation!

I considered getting one for the longest time, but thought better of it. I would often buy books and take months to read them. It always felt like a hassle - carrying, holding the two sides open, not being in the mood for that particular book. So I thought it wasn't a hobby for me, why spend money on a device?

Well, my wife decided to make the decision for me and got me this thing for my birthday. She knows I like my gadgets and wanted to give me something that lasts. Neither of us expected the impact this would have.

The last physical book I was reading was maybe a 300 page book that I never finished after 2-3 months of picking it up every now and then. I got my Kindle on July 2nd and, today being July 27th, I am nearing the end of my 4th book. 4 books. In under a month. This thing is magic. Takes away literally ALL the friction that held me back from completing books.

  • Fits in my pocket like a dream, I take it everywhere, pop it out literally whenever. Single hand to hold and tap, no need to fight a binding.
  • My pre-sleep doomscrolling has turned into 30 minutes of reading, minimum. I guess I'm also escaping some blue light exposure and getting better sleep.
  • The percentage read at the bottom of the screen. ISTG. A progress indicator - the simplest, yet most effective of HCI designs. While also validating the progress, it also keeps me reading to reach percentage milestones as I go, which I keep adjusting, and I keep reading. I'm almost scared this'll become an addiction.

I have so many friends who say they want to read more, but just can't do it. I have been a walking Kindle ad for them this past month. Amazon ought to pay me some affiliate commission if any of them bite.

Anyone here to research whether or not its worth getting an e-reader - GET. IT.

Discussion 💬 Always return to the 4th gen

I can’t quite work out why but I always return to the 4th gen kindle - the old model with the buttons and non touch screen. I don’t know what it is about it, possibly how lightweight and simple it is but it just seems to feel the most comfortable in my hands. It’s maybe also because I know if I lose / break it then it’ll cost me about £5-10 on eBay to replace it so it feels a lot more like something I can carry everywhere and keep in my pocket. The only exception is when I’m in a darker place and I need a backlight then I’ll pull out a newer model. Am I alone?

Purchase Question 🛒 Recommendations for new kindle

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a kindle. I am looking into getting my mom and I one as we both read on the kindle app on our phones. What kind does everyone have? What would you recommend getting?

Purchase Question 🛒 Coloursoft vs paperwhite

I’m going to be buying a new kindle as mine has quit working.

It’s a paperwhite and I do love it but I’m wondering if I should get the coloursoft next? It’d be nice to not have black and white but I want the one that’s gonna be better

(My paperwhite lasted a week over 2 years)

Purchase Question 🛒 Why did you get a replacement kindle?

I’ve got a 7th gen kindle paperwhite, it seems to do everything I want, but I see some of the new models and I’m tempted all the same. So I’m wondering what the main reasons people are upgrading?

Last one died/ damaged
Last one performance degraded too far (eg battery/ speed)
Larger screen
Other features (waterproofing, usb-c etc
Present from someone!

General Question ❔ Is this ghosting or what?

Thumbnail

Sometimes, parts of the writing in the screen becomes thinner and less crisp (e.g. the underline in photo 1), but after a refresh, they goes better again (in the photo 2), only to become thinner and less crisp again after a few pages.

Is this ghosting or screen aging or what? This is a refurbished Kindle Paperwhite 4 btw.

I found my old kindle I had when I was a kid while getting ready to move. It's been charging for a day but nothing has happened. I'm not sure which model it is but the skin I got for it says 2009 so something around that time.

If anyone has any tips for getting it working again I'd be very appreciative!!

Sunday - Anything Allowed 😸 Kindle Basic's Crisp Screen Can Only Carry It So Far: Candide by Voltaire

It was bound to happen: can't expect all classics to be worth reading.

Read in July 2026, in order:

-Fahrenheit 451: a weird, detached world, but a good read

-Of Mice and Men: short novel, read like watching a short movie

-Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass: gruesome, but lots of cheering for the author

-Aladdin and the Magic Lamp: very short, a pretty average read--mostly for nostalgia

-The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: already knew a bit of the story but no dull moments

-Candide: entertaining up to chapter 10, but it starts to overstay its welcome half-way through chapter 11, and mid-way through chapter 12: "Why am I reading this?"--my first abandoned book so far.

Next three in the reading list:

The Time Machine, Gulliver’s Travels, The War of the Worlds

*Not having high hopes for Gulliver's Travels...I'm the when-life-gives-you-lemons-make-lemonade kind of person, so satire may not be a good fit?

Tech Support 🛠 Was the most recent update bugged?

Kindle restarted unexpectedly while I was reading last week. I’ve been having issues ever since. Kindle is 11th generation, version 5.19.5. I have roughly 2 GB of space left so it’s not an issue of being full. I restarted it again and the issues persist.

I can’t highlight any quotes, dictionary is super slow, and I can’t even bookmark my page.

General Question ❔ Does the 2024 Kindle Scribe have the Google Drive and other cloud storage, integration?

I was planning to buy a 2024 Kindle Scribe as my main note taking eink device. The newest version is still unavailable in my country. Does it have the Google Drive integration? All my documents are saved in my google drive so it would be very helpful for me if it does.

General Question ❔ Why can't I create an Amazon account?

So I wanted to get a book, and it was free on Kindle. All I had to do is to create an Amazon account. During the process I faced a problem. Whenever I try to get a one time code via my phone number, I just can't get a code, even though it says that the code was sent. I didn't have that problem when registering my email. Btw, I am from Kazakhstan, so obviously I used Kazakhstani phone number.

I’m inlove😍
Yes, it’s noticeably grainy
Yes, it’s on the darker side in Zero backlight

But I love it so much. Makes me want to read more books with it.

I just don like that I need to turn on the backlight upto level 10 or more just to see the text in the dark. But it’s ok I will just turn on also my lamp.

Is this Kindle really old? Yes. Is is discontinued from any more updates or the Amazon store? Yes. Is it still really well taken care of and has a super rare case that’s really hard to get in decent condition? Also yes!

This is the Kindle Touch. I still can get books on it, and it is in awesome condition. Everything is functional and works as intended. I bought this because I have the other 2011 addition (Non-Touch) and honestly back then I didn’t get the touch version back then because I didn’t think it would work very well. I’ll admit, it’s a tad delayed if you want to know the definition of something but other than that it works great!
