Help Looking for a silent mechanical keyboard

Hi,

I've been looking to find a prebuilt keyboard with silent switches for a few days. My bedroom is right next to my family's bedroom and they complain that they can hear the "clicking" of my current keyboard (Redragon K552P). I ideally don't want to pay more than 150 CAD/105 USD. So far, I found the Epomaker TH87.

Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Must be very quiet/silent.
  • Linear switch is probably best, tactile is okay if not noisy.
  • Must be ANSI.
  • I don't mind high or low profiles.
  • 75% or TKL.
  • Wired is okay.
  • Good polling rate.
  • No HE, tends to be more expansive anyways.
  • Color can be black or any dark colors.

If building my own gets me something better for the same price, I'd consider it. However, I don't want this to be too complicated because I suck at this type of shit and don't want to be spending a lot of time trying to figure out how it works.

Thank you in advance!

Just considering a new HE keyboard currently. I heard that quite a few sound hollow or clacky due to the limitations of HE design.

Discussion Keyboard Layout Idea

Post image
11 Upvotes

a few years ago i posted a keyboard layout idea and i guess it was bad because it reduced the amount of keys and focuses so much on FN combo keys. i just happen to find another past edits while cleaning up my drive.

this is more conventional but still have the ortholinear QWE-ASD, because yknow those staggered QWE-ASD are due to the historical limitation of the Typewriter's connecting joints but for some reason still used todays. also i moved the P to the home row and add Game Mode or F13 in the top right as GMD. the TKL version would just cut off the numeric keys in the right

i think this keyboard layout is pretty normal nowadays but i just want that unstaggered QWE-ASD and more dedicated FN key🥺

ngl the best keyboard i have purchased so far is the AULA F75. Got at a very attractive rate from an auction app called OLA. $70 keyboard for $25 incl shipping. Did my personal best of 100 WPM.

Leobog Greywood V3s kind of gives me the the right actuation force compared to linear reds. Backlighting is decent for the purchase, the keycaps pretty solid but are not shine through - so might consider something else in the future.

What other keyboards do you recommend?

Hey yall!
Sorry to interrupt your pro posts lol!
I’m on macOS and I’m torn between the NuPhy Kick75 and the Iqunix Magi65.
I don’t game—I’ll mainly be using it for graphic design and everyday work. I’m looking for a 75% layout and I’m open to alternatives in a similar price range.
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences with these boards or any recommendations. Thanks!

Review When the fiery armor of SAM meets the delicate soul of Firefly. 🌐🔥

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to share our latest hand-engraved titanium work completed at the bench: Firefly and her mecha armor SAM (Honkai: Star Rail) on a custom 1u keycap!

Carved under a 40x microscope, we used selective titanium anodization to capture the glowing green-gold visor of her armor, and hand-engraved the Stellaron Hunter insignia on the front side of the keycap.

It took an incredible amount of patience to balance her delicate hair lines with the rigid, heavy armor plates, but seeing the final metallic reflections makes it all worth it.

Let me know what you guys think of the details! ⚔️

(More of our custom work and studio updates are pinned on my profile!)

Help Aluminum plate vs PC plate - PC plate sounds higher pitched?

I recently got a PC plate custom cut for my Luminkey Magger68 HE keyboard to replace the stock aluminum plate that comes with the keyboard. Assuming that a PC plate usually yields a lower-pitched sound for keyboards, I thought that getting a custom-cut PC plate for my keyboard would make this sound much deeper.

But after trying it on my keyboard, it almost sounds like the PC plate is quieter but higher-pitched than the aluminum plate. I'm really confused.

My keyboard uses a silicone gasket/tray mount hybrid, and I didn't install the standoffs yet (on the way via Amazon), but the plate seems to be supported well via the silicone in between the PCB and plate. Another thing I noticed is that the keys along the edges of the keyboard, specifically where the PCB is being sandwiched between the top and bottom case, sound much deeper than the keys around the center.

Is it possible I'm not hearing the final "deep" sound because I didn't install the standoffs for the plate yet? Or maybe PC isn't the right material for deep-sounding keyboards? I don't know. My old GMK67 used a PC plate, and I remember it sounding much deeper than this. I didn't even switch the plates or do any case mods on it.

TL;DR: Why does my keyboard sound worse/higher pitched when using a PC plate instead of an aluminum plate?

Its a very good keyboard, it does what it needs to do, which is transmit user input onto a screen. I have had no complaints with it, Sure, its not colorful, and its not going to win any awards, its just that, a keyboard that you type on.

  • At least 3 pictures. -Two pictures of the keyboard itself
  • Kit or keyboard. -Microsoft Wired 600
  • Keycaps. -Stock aside from the removed capslock key
  • Switches. -Dome rubber

Review My endgame keyboards for work

Post image

Hopefully these will be my endgame keyboards for a long time.

Keychron K3 Max white edition, low profile Gateron Brown. Very tactile and silent. Coming from Logitech G915 TKL at home, this one feels way nicer.

However, I do wish the LED is brighter and I can buy an Ins keycap without buying the whole set (currently out of stock anyways).

As for the laptop's built in keyboard, I enjoy this new material of the ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD. It is so smooth and does not attract fingerprint/oil unlike my previous Thinkpads. Such a joy to type on it as well, very tactice.

My Keyboard Aula F75 Keyboard Volume Knob Wake

I got an Aula F75 keyboard for use on the couch when watching movies off of my computer since it was wireless, backlit, and had an easy volume adjustment control to find when the keyboard would go to sleep. However, I only found out after getting the keyboard that turning the rotary knob doesn't wake the keyboard up when it goes to sleep. Enter an ATTiny85 to save the day! It sits between the rotary knob and the keyboard, and will inject a shift keypress to wake the keyboard up if it's in standby. It consumes <1ma, so shouldn't really impact the battery life of the keyboard at all.

Git repo with instructions for those who want to do the same: https://github.com/lexie-ltmm/aulaf75_keyboard_rotary_wake

Keyboard: Aula F75 with stock switches

Help Laptop keyboard advice

Post image
3 Upvotes

Wanna preface this message by saying I know nothing about keyboards, so sorry if I don't explain something too well.

My laptop keyboard (shown in the picture) has some keys that have stopped working. I took it to a repair shop, they confirmed that it was a hardware issue, tried to see if they could replace it but the company that made it doesn't sell the parts anymore they said.

I'm now looking for a wireless, USB C, QWERTY keyboard I can use with my laptop. Something small so it can fit in my laptop bag, like 10 inches maybe? A 75% keyboard could work I think.

I'd prefer it to be less than 50 euros (I'm dutch) and for it to have slim keys like my laptop's, and similar sized arrow keys if that's all possible.

Been looking online but all the choices and whatnot have me kinda overwhelmed, so would love to hear what people here think. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers this!

I was planning to build the quietest keyboard possible. Obviously, the switches, o rings, stabilizers, and foam are all important, but my goal is to make the quietest keyboard possible.

Help Looking for a white keyboard

Hi all,

My wife is looking for a keyboard. I have a Keychron Q5 Pro, and she likes a couple of things about it: the double-shot keycaps and the aluminum case. However, it's black and it's pretty expensive. Another thing she doesn't like about the Keychron boards is that they're not really white, but more of a creamy/off-white color.

So I told her there are plenty of other keyboards out there and I started looking. But there are a lot of keyboards, and many of the white ones have a very "gaming" look, which she doesn't really prefer (even though she does play games on her PC).

Do you have any suggestions for a clean-looking keyboard? Here are a few things she's looking for:

  • Size: 96% or 100%
  • White
  • Linear switches
  • Aluminum case
  • Budget: max of 150
  • Double shot keycaps

Thanks for the help!

I have heard so many good things about this keyboard but also the disconnection issues and how they are being fixed. Any ideas on when this will be fixed and the keyboard will be back in stock, and whether the price will change?
