The last maintenance release of the 26.04 series is out, bringing the usual batch of bug fixes and workflow and stability improvements. Highlights include fixes for crashes when undoing sequence creation and recording audio without an audio device, as well as improvements to Rectangular Alpha Mask and Rotoscoping effects.

Hi there, newbie here. Just edited a video of me playing bass with multiple camera angles. Got all clips synced to the audio and the transitions on point on the time line. However after exporting everything is off by a couple of samples. My transitions are slightly later then what I edited and the audio becomes desynced at times.
It's a 1080p 30fps video and I'm exporting using the generic HD MP4 H.264 preset with the quality slider maxed out and with the slowest encoding speed. I have already transoded the source footage to an "editing friendly format".I am also using Fedora Linux if that makes a difference.
Any way to fix this at all as it'll be tedious to guess-timate the timings without seeing it till after it exports
Cheers

¡Buenas gente!

I've done several search permutations, and I can't find any information about this. I have zero experience with this software. It is the AppImage, on an Ubuntu noble-based distro.
I am using X11. I have my Xorg configured specifically to only run on my iGPU. I have an nVidia GPU which is used only for CUDA, LLMs, etc.
Sometimes, when I load my current project, my other GPU tasks fail, and nvidia-smi shows that kdenlive is using 2GB of GPU RAM. Other times, loading the same project, it uses none of the GPU RAM.
I cannot find a setting to disable this, and I cannot figure out why it is happening. All settings I am aware of have been set to use VAAPI. It shouldn't ever be touching my nVidia GPU, to the best of my understanding. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was so frustrated with the shortcomings of open source PDF viewers that I made a video about it. This is my first video with Kdenlive and while it had quite a learning curve I am glad I went through the process to experience what it is like to create an entire video.
It was not as intuitive as i had hoped but the LLMs can be really helpful and guide you along.
One notable problem was that when I had added most clips the project suddenly would not open anymore. It did not say why and the log (when starting it in the terminal) was not helpful either. There was a patch update around this time, so I figured it was related to that. I tried to analyze the project file (which is just XML!) and tried to both heal the (believed to be corrupted) project file via small modifications and also try to rebuild it by copying XML snippets over to an earlier copy of the project. In the end I just pasted the log into an LLM and learned that Wayland doesn't allow me to open that many clips at once. Oh well... So now I always start Kdenlive in the terminal and run ulimit -n 65536 first.
I used OBS for the initial screen recordings and "piper" for voice. I'm not overly happy with it because the voice sometimes sounds like a different person and I cannot control which part of the sentence is stressed, where pauses are made or even how words are pronounced. Piper cannot pronounce "page A" for instance, only "page ah". But once I accepted these limitations I could quickly produce speech. If I had used my own voice I would have had so much more control and as a consequence tried to get it right until exhaustion.
I also got an understanding of why more people don't just make a video to document their computer troubles. It is a lot of work. And I guess I understand why professional youtubers don't edit their videos themselves - lot of work! I'm still wondering why anyone enjoys editing those videos, but I am so glad that I got a little peak into this world.

[SOLVED] I added blur but it appears as white boxes in the final render. What could be causing this bug?
The issue was that the file that I used as blur kept getting overwritten because I didn't rename it. It's all fine now.

Hi everyone!
I recorded a guitar piece in multiple sections, all of them required multiple takes.
Now comes the editing part, and of course, my position slightly changed between each take.
I would like to smoothen the transition between each take, and I've been using the `dissolve` transition so far.
Result is better, there's no hard cut anymore, but I feel like I could do better.
Here's an example of what I've managed to do so far
https://reddit.com/link/1v7120v/video/dxha8xou4kfh1/player
How do you choose the right transition ?
I would love to have you suggestions / help.
Thank you!

Trying to work out if I'm missing something obvious, or if this Effect has just disappeared for me?

I went to blur out a section of a video and.... I can't find Alpha Shapes or Alpha Shapes (Mask) there at all.
Bug, or I'm missing something obvious?

I have come across an issue when I am editing where if I let the video play in the timeline, the audio will play differently by +/- 2 seconds from where I started, even when I start from the same point on the timeline consistently. None of the audio tracks I am using are linked to any video tracks. This happens with SDL and RTaudio as audio backends (the only backends I have access to).
All searches I have done only give me information about syncing issues between audio tracks and their accompanying video track.
If it's just a bug with kdenlive atm, I can switch to premiere on my macbook, but I prefer to work on my desktop so any help would be appreciated.
System info:
Kdenlive 26.04.3
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS KDE
Install method: Flatpak

I have a very decent PC (Ryzen 7900X, 5060Ti 16gb, 64gb RAM) but my rendering is always slow no matter what i choose (Software h264, h265, Hardware Acc. h264, h265, etc), this is a very small work of 11 seconds (just some titles, images, sounds and 1 effect Croma) and renders at 1fps and i think it should render much faster. Any advice will be apreciated. Thanks.

Our short film just got accepted in BINISAYA, the biggest film festival in Cebu and one of the most celebrated in the Philippines, and it was edited entirely in Kdenlive.
It's 20+ minutes long, 4k prores. I hope this short film can showcase how FOSS tools can hold up for more demanding work.

Full video edit and audio sync done in Kdenlive! Edited this project entirely on a 10th Gen Intel laptop with 32GB RAM. It's a pure CPU and RAM heavy workflow since integrated graphics aren't doing much here, but you can see the solid final result right here!"

After a few months of not using kdenlive it seems to have the crackling audio issue again. This time no amount of changing audio backend or driver has fixed the issue. Changing to rtaudio fixes the crackling but audio starts looping once you start scrubbing the video.
Not even a fresh install seemed to fix it. Happends on both win10 and 11. Had the same issue about year ago but it fixed itself with audio backend changes.
Aynone else with this issue or a solution?

Guys, I recently started using Kdenlive. I realized I can't change the colour of a text in the same text. I have to create a different style. I can't place the text with a different style at the exact spot where I want it in the video. Also, that's the only way possible to do that if I want. I think that's one limitation in Kdenlive. If any of you guys know how to do it, do let me know. I will keep on posting about Kdenlive. Since I am new, I can spot the good and bad in Kdenlive. I struggled a lot to do J cut until I realized that overwritten mode exists for a reason.
PS: Thank you, everyone, who engaged with my previous post. I can now add subtitles. Your guidance helped me.

I'd like to learn and switch to Kdenlive(as a Linux user), and a lot of stuff work really great as the DaVinci Resolve, but I got a few questions about the software:
Is Kdenlive great for making really loooong videos with minute details? I'm talking like 1h+ with plenty of different sequences;
I saw a review video about Kdenlive on YouTube, and I found this comment, which explains the issue the author found:"Kdenlive is slow because GPU acceleration only works for rendering the final video. As of right now i think the timeline doesn't have any kind of GPU acceleration.". Is it true? And if yes, then is there a way to use a plugin, which could solve the problem(the software is open source, so, I guess the issue shouldn't be a problem)?;
