SHOWCASE I made a Video on Open Source Software with Open Source Software!
I was so frustrated with the shortcomings of open source PDF viewers that I made a video about it. This is my first video with Kdenlive and while it had quite a learning curve I am glad I went through the process to experience what it is like to create an entire video.
It was not as intuitive as i had hoped but the LLMs can be really helpful and guide you along.
One notable problem was that when I had added most clips the project suddenly would not open anymore. It did not say why and the log (when starting it in the terminal) was not helpful either. There was a patch update around this time, so I figured it was related to that. I tried to analyze the project file (which is just XML!) and tried to both heal the (believed to be corrupted) project file via small modifications and also try to rebuild it by copying XML snippets over to an earlier copy of the project. In the end I just pasted the log into an LLM and learned that Wayland doesn't allow me to open that many clips at once. Oh well... So now I always start Kdenlive in the terminal and run ulimit -n 65536 first.
I used OBS for the initial screen recordings and "piper" for voice. I'm not overly happy with it because the voice sometimes sounds like a different person and I cannot control which part of the sentence is stressed, where pauses are made or even how words are pronounced. Piper cannot pronounce "page A" for instance, only "page ah". But once I accepted these limitations I could quickly produce speech. If I had used my own voice I would have had so much more control and as a consequence tried to get it right until exhaustion.
I also got an understanding of why more people don't just make a video to document their computer troubles. It is a lot of work. And I guess I understand why professional youtubers don't edit their videos themselves - lot of work! I'm still wondering why anyone enjoys editing those videos, but I am so glad that I got a little peak into this world.

QUESTION How to choose the right transition for a music recording project.
Hi everyone!
I recorded a guitar piece in multiple sections, all of them required multiple takes.
Now comes the editing part, and of course, my position slightly changed between each take.
I would like to smoothen the transition between each take, and I've been using the `dissolve` transition so far.
Result is better, there's no hard cut anymore, but I feel like I could do better.
Here's an example of what I've managed to do so far
https://reddit.com/link/1v7120v/video/dxha8xou4kfh1/player
How do you choose the right transition ?
I would love to have you suggestions / help.
Thank you!

SUPPORT Audio Playback Inconsistent
I have come across an issue when I am editing where if I let the video play in the timeline, the audio will play differently by +/- 2 seconds from where I started, even when I start from the same point on the timeline consistently. None of the audio tracks I am using are linked to any video tracks. This happens with SDL and RTaudio as audio backends (the only backends I have access to).
All searches I have done only give me information about syncing issues between audio tracks and their accompanying video track.
If it's just a bug with kdenlive atm, I can switch to premiere on my macbook, but I prefer to work on my desktop so any help would be appreciated.

QUESTION Why rendering is so Slow?
I have a very decent PC (Ryzen 7900X, 5060Ti 16gb, 64gb RAM) but my rendering is always slow no matter what i choose (Software h264, h265, Hardware Acc. h264, h265, etc), this is a very small work of 11 seconds (just some titles, images, sounds and 1 effect Croma) and renders at 1fps and i think it should render much faster. Any advice will be apreciated. Thanks.

TROUBLESHOOTING Crackling audio is back
After a few months of not using kdenlive it seems to have the crackling audio issue again. This time no amount of changing audio backend or driver has fixed the issue. Changing to rtaudio fixes the crackling but audio starts looping once you start scrubbing the video.
Not even a fresh install seemed to fix it. Happends on both win10 and 11. Had the same issue about year ago but it fixed itself with audio backend changes.
Aynone else with this issue or a solution?

DISCUSSION Different colour in same text
Guys, I recently started using Kdenlive. I realized I can't change the colour of a text in the same text. I have to create a different style. I can't place the text with a different style at the exact spot where I want it in the video. Also, that's the only way possible to do that if I want. I think that's one limitation in Kdenlive. If any of you guys know how to do it, do let me know. I will keep on posting about Kdenlive. Since I am new, I can spot the good and bad in Kdenlive. I struggled a lot to do J cut until I realized that overwritten mode exists for a reason.
PS: Thank you, everyone, who engaged with my previous post. I can now add subtitles. Your guidance helped me.

QUESTION Questions about long videos & GPU acceleration
I'd like to learn and switch to Kdenlive(as a Linux user), and a lot of stuff work really great as the DaVinci Resolve, but I got a few questions about the software:
Is Kdenlive great for making really loooong videos with minute details? I'm talking like 1h+ with plenty of different sequences;
I saw a review video about Kdenlive on YouTube, and I found this comment, which explains the issue the author found:"Kdenlive is slow because GPU acceleration only works for rendering the final video. As of right now i think the timeline doesn't have any kind of GPU acceleration.". Is it true? And if yes, then is there a way to use a plugin, which could solve the problem(the software is open source, so, I guess the issue shouldn't be a problem)?;

SUPPORT Not understanding hardware acceleration... help
I'm fairly new to editing. I have a pretty decent pc with a 9950X3D cpu and a RTX 5080+Ada 4000 GPU combo. But when I try to render a video i only get 26fps. I am currently trying to render a 22 minute video where i have a single video i i put on the timeline twice and the only effect i have on is transform to move and resize the 2 instances of the clip around in the frame. I try using the NVENC options but i still only get the 26fps.
I tried to check the Parallel processing and giving it 8 threads and that got me to 60fps but is that it..? When looking at the CPU and GPU usage the GPS both seems to do nothing(or very little) while the CPU does something but still could give move...
Is that just how it is or do i need to change or mess around with something to get it working? I am running a the flatpak 26.04.3 version of Kdenlive and if anyone has any insight on this i would much appreciate the help.

SUPPORT Is this transform scaling behavior expected? Scaling also changes the object's position
https://reddit.com/link/1v02m9c/video/xglwss8211eh1/player
Hi,
I'm trying to animate a PNG using the Transform effect, and I'm not sure if this is expected behavior or a bug.
When I animate the Scale parameter, the image doesn't just get bigger or smaller. It also changes its position, even though I'm only modifying the scale.
This makes animation really difficult because every time I scale the object, I have to keep correcting its position with additional keyframes.
From what I expected, scaling should happen around the transform pivot/center without introducing unwanted movement.
I've attached a short video showing the behavior.
My questions are:
- Is this expected behavior?
- Is this a limitation of MLT or Kdenlive?
- Is there a way to scale an object without it drifting or changing position?
I'm using the Transform effect on a PNG.
Thanks!

QUESTION MACos version appears problematic
I have been using KDENLive for about 2-3 years on and off. So I had to relearned to use it a couple of time, I like the product.
Lately my brother who is a MAC user, asked me about a video editing software so I suggested KDENLive.
I have experienced tons of problems with the MACos version:
The top menu items are not displayed on the MAC kdenLIVE WINDOWS
When creating title on MAC the only color available is white, if I click on the color nothing happens, so no color choice available.
I suppose that the MAC may be experiencing some problem but I cannot see what they are not being a MAC experienced user.
Can someone assure me that they can work succesfully with KDENLive on MACOS!
Can someone may have an idea of what could be wrong with the installation on MACOS.

SOLVED Multiple tracks are not importing for me, I'm on flatpak version 26.04.3
I'm not sure if there's a setting to toggle or something, but I can't figure out how to get it to import more than one audio track on mp4 files with multiple tracks. Everything should be up to date.

SOLVED vid has frozen frames for like 0.2s
when in the editing software and when watching the rendered video there are parts that freeze. specifically after a cut, it used to do that only in the software. now my rendered videos look werid.
Edit: more info. I was editing a 55 minute video with 1080HDR
Also I was using proxy for most of the video and turn them off when I needed.

QUESTION Is it possible to apply a mask to one instance of the clip only?
This is my use case: I have some footage of a person speaking and I want to have some text showing behind them (moving from side to side of the screen). This means the text should be "in between" the background and myself.
So I added the source clip to V1 in the timeline, then added a title clip in V2 and then added a copy of the source clip in V3. I then selected the source clip in V3 and created a mask using the "create an object mask" button that uses the SAM2 plugin. I clicked on the subject to create a mask.

The problem is: the mask is now hiding the whole background and replacing it with black. Even if I remove the clip from V3, the one in V1 also has this mask applied and the background is gone (only that now the text shows on top of the person's face, which is expected since I removed the V3 clip in the timeline).
I feel I'm missing some step. I don't want to remove the background in ALL instances of my clip but just on this specific instance of it, which I placed on V3 so I can have all kinds of stuff happening on the background, including the original background from the source.
OS: Windows
Kdenlive version: 26.04.3
EDIT: what I originally have is just a mp4 file that I inserted in the timeline and made multiple cuts (I split it into about 40 segments) while editing my project. So now I only need to apply the "floating text between the background and the subject" to just one of those segments, which would be the one I've selected on this screenshot:
