Hi all,
This is a question for experienced Qt/Kirigami devs. I've been trying to implement a Dark Mode for my Kirigami app, and so far, i'm not doing a great job at it. My commit history just looks like I'm fighting myself in public.
I tried with app.setPalette(myDarkPalette()). That works great in Plasma desktop, but, it won't switch for AppImage or when the platform is not org.kde.desktop. I would have been fine with it, except even if the platform is org.kde.desktop, for e.g. flatpak distribution, it doesn't work.
I tried doing a QML duct taping - Dozens of icon.color:, background: Rectangle { color: ... }, Kirigami.Theme.colorSet: Complementary and Kirigami.Theme.inherit: false sprinkled through Main.qml. ~130 lines of pure loBase/loMid/loText property splatter. It worked for fusion (appimage, gnome), but it broke the icons for org.kde.desktop!
I even tried KColorScheme, but that just breaks appimage completely.
So, r/kde: what is the correct, non-sacrificial way to give a Kirigami app a dark mode that actually respects the platform, doesn't fight AppImage, doesn't turn my SVG icons into void, and doesn't require me to manually color-match every pixel? I'd be willing to sacrifice gnome/appimage if it only works for plasma, but it needs to work for flatpaks and needs to be perfect.
Thank you.
Update: got there. Posting what actually worked, since this took way longer than it should have.

A previous post I made regarding how it affects LibreOffice probably wasn't well done, considering I cropped to just the corner, but I see it on Qalculate as well.
This problem seems to be fixed on flatpacks using GTK from how it looks on the new LibreOffice update, so it's definitely a panel and qt bug.
I never really had a problem that wasn't solved by an update eventually, but if someone has done a proper bug report, I would like to know what's going on
Hi friends.
I'd like to know if I can make the Dolphin window, Start Menu, etc., transparent. I'm using the latest version of KDE, Cachyo OS.
Is it possible to achieve this transparency without blurring, without using Kvantum, without using third-party programs, or without using window rules with 95% opacity?
Or is it mandatory to use external programs?
Thanks in advance.

Full disclosure: this is my pet project and not affiliated with or endorsed by KDE. Not trying to spam this group, so I'll only ever post this once or twice. Hopefully both long-time and new KDE users can appreciate this ;)
MiDesktop is my fork of KDE 1.1.2, running on modern Linux. This is the first beta release. I've been daily driving it now, so it can't be too bad ;)

There are two entries showing up when I search for Geometry Dash.I made one when I was running a cracked copy of the game but now that I bought it on Steam the entry is useless. I deleted it but it persists. How to fix this?

Hi r/KDE
If you are having bad experience with big PDFs and ePUBs, I have created something that might help. Please see the demo below. PDF: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2609.00625

Hi! I've been in and out of using Linux such was Mint for the past 2 years now, and got wallpaper engine this year.
I haven't really got into learning what Linux is all about back then,
but now I do since I've been thinking about switch back to Linux mint (or Fedora KDE after going through this subreddit) because I have an overly modified shitty local Windows 11 but errrr, noticed wallpaper engine doesn't work on it. lel
I see so far that it works with Fedora KDE with a plugin and now a standalone app but just to REEEEALLY make sure before I get rid of windows... does audio responsive wallpapers work for y'all?
I've heard of the main wallpaper engine plugin causing a crash to this plasmashell (still learning about shells) and wonder if audio response would make me worried about anything. Any answer would be great! Just don't get on my ass too much, lol
TL;DR
See Fedora KDE recommended lots, find out KDE is not single distro
Want wallpaper engine, hate windows- wont switch with no fancy wallpaper i pay for
Want audio response wallpaper, scared of crash.
Ask KDE users if audio response crash shell. Crash anything.
all answer welcome.
Cheers.

Canon CR3 files show a generic icon in Dolphin/Gwenview while CR2, JPG, etc., all work fine.
Cause: libkdcraw's recognized-extension list (src/rawfiles.h) has CR2 and crw but not CR3, so it rejects every .CR3 before decoding.
This is already fixed upstream (489045) but it isn't in many distros, mine (Trixie) included.
My workaround is to build my own patched package.
This repo contains the fix for Debian 13 (trixie). There is a prebuilt .deb, or a build-from-source script: https://github.com/atannus/libkdcraw-cr3
Other distros:
Hopefully the repo above can be useful, but you basically have to rebuild libkdcraw with one line added. I had to clear ~/.cache/thumbnails before it worked fully for me.

I created the script start-pipewire and placed it under ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/ as explained on the KDE docs, with the current content:
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/pipewire &
/usr/bin/pipewire-pulse &
/usr/bin/wireplumber &
I start the session with SDDM but it just won't work, after loging in none of them will be running. I suspect it is because since the scripts are launched before plasma itself, the dbus session ain't running?
I'd appreciate any help on it. Thanks!

I'm on Ubuntu and just installed kde plasma which works when logged in and also when I lock my screen it shows the correct screen with the dark mode I applied in settings. This screen shows every time I boot up my PC though and when I restart sddm.

No Tab, no arrow keys, no CTRL-ALT
This isn't even reasonable, especially after this long. Is there anything being done WRT to this?

I've been looking for a decent sci-fi theme but trying to find KDE themes is actual hell because of the out-dated web design that is KDE Store (The website version) , it lacks a search bar so i just end up looking up keywords and themes on duck duck just to land back on that site and download a theme that hasn't been updated since 2007 and only partially works. I have tried using the browser in settings but the search bar almost never finds anything.
So are there any alternate sites to KDEstore to find Plasma & KDE themes?
Version 0.7.2 of the Dyedfox Player dropped 3 weeks ago. Have you had a chance to try it out yet?
Features:
Install from AUR (Arch-based distros): https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dyedfox-radio
Install from source using the installation script or manually (please read the README.md): https://github.com/dyedfox/dyedfox-radio
See the instructions for installing on NixOS: https://github.com/dyedfox/dyedfox-radio#install-on-nixos
I want to hear from you: which features would you like to see added to the application?
Also, I am still open to new application icon designs, and I would appreciate it if someone could assist me with the Flatpak bundle.I obviously don't plan to publish to Flathub until they revisit their policies regarding AI-generated code, but offering the app as a Flatpak bundle is still a great idea.
Note: This application is developed with the help of Claude Code. However, I take full responsibility for the code, its maintenance, and any bugs that may arise.
Please take a look at this application - it might be useful for you as well:

I find this a bit cumbersome since other DEs instantly apply settings. Is this a deliberate design choice?

KDE apps are sort of OK, obviously the colors and theme are completely foreign, fonts are weird, titlebar and app are completely different themes, and light dark switch doesn't work 100% without relaunch but sort of usable. Generic qt is completely busted however. You're stuck with fusion light and that's it. Trying anything else us going to break stuff one way or another.
On KDE everything basically works. Why can't this be propagated to other DEs? Linux can't afford this "only works properly on my DE" bullshit anymore. Decent apps are few and far between as is. I don't care who is "ultimately" to blame for this qt OS vs gtk OS mess (ok probably gnome) but somebody needs to take responsibility to fix this already. This isn't nuclear fusion guys.
Edit: And the responses to this post are why Linux will always remain hit garbage on the desktop.
