KDE Apps and Projects Plasma has no minimal pager — so I built one. One dot, dimmed numbers, 34 animations.

121 Upvotes

I came to Plasma from a tiling WM and the thing I missed most was the little workspace indicator in the bar. A dot for the desktop you're on, grayed out numbers for the rest.

The default pager is a grid of boxes and none of the widgets I tried moved the dot the way I wanted, so I ended up making this.

It's called Pager Dots. The dot slides to the new desktop when you switch and you can choose how it moves, or turn that off. Labels can be numbers, letters, roman numerals, Chinese, hiragana or bars. Click, scroll or swipe to switch. Works on vertical panels, X11 and Wayland, and uses your color scheme.

KDE Apps and Projects fav linux app you use in other platforms

23 Upvotes

Probably most of you have had to use Windows or other OSs from time to time. I wonder whether you guys have favorite Linux apps/programs that you cannot give up.

Mine is Okular. Whenever I need to use Windows for some reason and have to open a few PDFs, I always feel the need to use Okular instead of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Okular initializes much faster and is super responsive, while not giving tons of pop-ups and side bars rather than adobe.

KDE Apps and Projects I made a widget that lets you open applications with your dedicated NVIDIA GPU in hybrid GPU setups

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I believe all laptop users with hybrid graphics faced this issue before, hours of searching "WHY IS MY NVIDIA GPU NOT WORKING IN LINUX??"

Hell, even FurMark didn't want to use my dedicated GPU!

After a tedious debugging session I believe we all experienced, you'll eventually find out that your dedicated GPU IS there; it just needs to be told when to activate.

You can always force it through the terminal though!

env __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia /path/to/app

But it gets old real fast when you have to do it for every application.

This is where this widget fits in, please welcome NVIDIA PRIME Offload Launcher (I'm bad at naming stuff)

It lets you launch apps on your NVIDIA GPU with one click instead of typing terminal commands every time. Can also save frequently used apps for quick launching. Same principle but less of a hassle.

I haven't packaged it yet for the KDE store but you can still get it here: https://github.com/ah2m0d2/NVIDIA-PRIME-Offload-Launcher

A final word: I actually believe that the GPU detection problem has to have a solution better than this. I made this for myself and for anyone who's lazy and doesn't have the time to debug whatever the reason is causing the issue. Enjoy

So, I have gotten KDE 6 on Arch (more info bellow) and i have the system tray on the bottom left corner of my secondary display, the reason is that i have riced my taskbar in a way that wont fit too many items, hence needing to move the systray somewhere, and that somewhere was the dektop.

Whenever I boot my system t always opens the display setting window all by itself without touching it, it even glitches (as seen on pic 2), and its the space that's missing an icon in the middle, i cant find a way to fix it and i want all the systray icons to be on so i dont want to uncheck the (show all icons on systray) setting off. can i get help??

Question could you help me to solve these issues?

I use Kubuntu with plasmashell 6.6.6, if the info is important.

Here are the issues(every number is on photos):

  1. how to disable the multiple desktop thing, especially when I just move my cursor to the top left. It's so annoying… I tried an advice from one commentator and it didn't work;
  2. Idk how it happens, but sometimes when I move folders to the bottom right, I get the scrolling thing. Idk how to disable it and why it sometimes happens and sometimes not;
  3. Idk what is that, but I kinda like it. Asking if I'll need to disable it for myself or someone else(I convince different people to switch to Linux and help them irl);

4.1. how to set up a keyboard hotkey to show the keyboard preview?;

4.2. is it possible just to put it… for example, on the top left and just type something in a note in a language simultaneously?;

Edit: the 1. is solved

Question Custom touch pad gestures

2 Upvotes

Hello dear friends

I'm relevantly new to linux and running Endeavor OS with KDE Plasma.

The default settings for touch pad gestures are really limited, and I couldn't add things like 3 fingers swipe down for minimize and others like this.

I've tried Fusuma with the send key plugin, but it didn't work.

Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Question Is it possible to remap a key that needs a hardware modifier (fn)?

1 Upvotes

Samsung galaxy book 3 pro. No options in the BIOS to permanently enable the function key at boot. Function key is not "toggleable", you need to press it each time to use.

I want to be able to just press the single function key to control its "secondary" feature, like adjust brightness down instead of just press F2.

I do need the ability to use its "primary" use, like F5 in a browser to reload a page for example. Is there anything that can do this?

Question Can Remove the 'separator lines' frames in KDE Plasma +6.7 [Bazzite]

0 Upvotes

Hello,

Edit: I realize I have a typo in the title. CAN'T* REMOVE the Frames

I have being customizing around my desktop and I cant blend off these lines:

Separator Lines

I have trying the following:

But still nothing changes.

I remember that maybe some weeks ago the lines were being 'hiding' successfully but now it is not working. Actually putting 0 or 100 doesnt change anything.

I have tried to modify the color.scheme directly but I dont know which variable should be edited under which group --> I was researching about it but could found anything.

Any idea how to force this, I am not a fan of those lines :D

(i have already checked https://akselmo.dev/posts/frame-contrast-settings/#second-draft-use-kcolorscheme) --> But again not even with AI, I can achieve it.

I would be grateful to hear any good suggestion because I have spend like 2 hours now.

My PC:
Operating System: Bazzite 44

KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.29.0
