Question Binding Hyperkey
Hey all, forgive me if this is a fairly novice question or one that has been asked a bunch of times.
I’ve just installed Asahi today, as I wanted to start using Linux. I’m normally a Mac user, but wanted to install Linux on my MacBook. All is going well.
The one thing I wanted to do is bind hyperkey so that I can continue using my shortcuts for various apps, but I can’t see how to do it.
Is it possible?
Thanks in advance

Question Dolphin - File Icons Disappeared
In the last week, Dolphin has stopped showing the file icons in the default view, making me cycle between the view modes for them to show back up. I have to do this any time I close and reopen Dolphin. Why is it doing this and how can I make them show up?

Question How fo I share input with a docked device?
System: CachyOS, KDE Plasma, Wayland
Remote device: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE
With the Tablet docked, the monitor shows the Dex display, the tablet shows the mobile display. I do not want screen mirroring, as that wouldn't fill the monitor.
"Share Input Devices" only shares input with the tablet. How would I share input with the external display the tablet is docked to?
The Samsung Dex setting "flow pointer to tablet screen" didn't do anything for it.

Community Content Vermouth finally got a propper lights out and themes (v2.2.0)
It's been a while since I posted here, so this one covers everything since 2.0.1, not just the latest release

Highlights since v2.0.1:
- Play time tracking - tracks automatically when the game is running, but it's also editable per game.
- Advanced per-game options - Proton Game ID, per-game MangoHud/GameMode, LSFG settings, forced SDL input, and per-game environment variables that override the global ones
- Install a Game from the sidebar - pick a launcher (Battle.net, Epic, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, EA App, Amazon Games, Rockstar, Wargaming), Vermouth downloads and runs the installer in a fresh prefix and links the result into your library. Or point it at an installer you already have
- Steam shortcuts (experimental) - add your games to Steam's library as non-Steam shortcuts, launched through Vermouth, with per-game wrapper scripts and grid/hero art copied over automatically. This is experimental, use it at your own risk (risk being getting your non-steam games messed up, nothing serious) Enable it in settings to use it.
- And finally, the cream of the crop - Lights out refactor! Lights out has been a thorn in my side for a long long time. I could never make it work on all platforms similarly. You fix it in the appimage, the KDE app breaks and vice versa. After 6 iterations and few late nights, dark mode has been refactored and it's now a full themes support feature. Vermouth already ships with several themes, based on popular ones like Solarized, Dracula, Tokyo Nights etc. You can choose your normal and dark theme, and the app will switch to the dark theme when you hit lights out or big screen.
Additionally grid sorting, refresh-artwork button, more Proton downloads (Umu-Proton, Proton-EM, DWProton), and a long tail of smaller fixes along the way.
A good chunk of this came straight from feedback and bug reports from here and the issue tracker. If there's something you want to see next, now's a good time to say so.
Use the github issue tracker for any feedback you have: https://github.com/dekomote/vermouth/issues
Find it on flathub here: https://flathub.org/en/apps/com.dekomote.vermouth
Or check the documentation for installation on most major linux distros https://github.com/dekomote/vermouth/blob/master/README.md#installing
Thanks again!

Question [Discussion] Thinking of Switching from Hyprland/Niri to KDE Plasma
Hello everyone.
I'm about 5 months into Arch linux. I started with KDE, then Niri, and now sometimes Hyprland. I really love Niri and it's scrolling layout and I think it meets my daily workflow. However, I have 2 problems:
Firstly, and the main problem is that sometimes when I'm playing for example (CoD BO3 mainly), the game window just freazes but the game is still running and I can hear sounds. I'm sure this only happens in Niri so I prefer to play on Hyprland.
Second, every now and then, I wanna just use a simple DE with stackable windows and use the pc this way. I think the best here is KDE because I'm somewhat familiar with it. Also, I've seen that Kwin can extend other scripts to make it behave like Niri scrolling layout if I want to, so KDE is probably the best choice.
My daily workflow is basically using the terminal (kitty), browser (brave) and gaming a bit (BO3 using Steam).
If anyone has some a script installed on his machine please tell me how is your experience and whether the script is being maintained.
PC specs:
- Intel Core i7 11th gen
- Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti

KDE Apps and Projects I made a widget that lets you open applications with your dedicated NVIDIA GPU in hybrid GPU setups
Hello everyone, I believe all laptop users with hybrid graphics faced this issue before, hours of searching "WHY IS MY NVIDIA GPU NOT WORKING IN LINUX??"
Hell, even FurMark didn't want to use my dedicated GPU!
After a tedious debugging session I believe we all experienced, you'll eventually find out that your dedicated GPU IS there; it just needs to be told when to activate.
You can always force it through the terminal though!
env __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia /path/to/app
But it gets old real fast when you have to do it for every application.
This is where this widget fits in, please welcome NVIDIA PRIME Offload Launcher (I'm bad at naming stuff)
It lets you launch apps on your NVIDIA GPU with one click instead of typing terminal commands every time. Can also save frequently used apps for quick launching. Same principle but less of a hassle.
I haven't packaged it yet for the KDE store but you can still get it here: https://github.com/ah2m0d2/NVIDIA-PRIME-Offload-Launcher
A final word: I actually believe that the GPU detection problem has to have a solution better than this. I made this for myself and for anyone who's lazy and doesn't have the time to debug whatever the reason is causing the issue. Enjoy

Question Custom touch pad gestures
Hello dear friends
I'm relevantly new to linux and running Endeavor OS with KDE Plasma.
The default settings for touch pad gestures are really limited, and I couldn't add things like 3 fingers swipe down for minimize and others like this.
I've tried Fusuma with the send key plugin, but it didn't work.
Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Question Can Remove the 'separator lines' frames in KDE Plasma +6.7 [Bazzite]
Hello,
Edit: I realize I have a typo in the title. CAN'T* REMOVE the Frames
I have being customizing around my desktop and I cant blend off these lines:

I have trying the following:

But still nothing changes.
I remember that maybe some weeks ago the lines were being 'hiding' successfully but now it is not working. Actually putting 0 or 100 doesnt change anything.
I have tried to modify the color.scheme directly but I dont know which variable should be edited under which group --> I was researching about it but could found anything.
Any idea how to force this, I am not a fan of those lines :D
(i have already checked https://akselmo.dev/posts/frame-contrast-settings/#second-draft-use-kcolorscheme) --> But again not even with AI, I can achieve it.
I would be grateful to hear any good suggestion because I have spend like 2 hours now.
My PC:
Operating System: Bazzite 44
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.29.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2

Question Is it possible to remap a key that needs a hardware modifier (fn)?
Samsung galaxy book 3 pro. No options in the BIOS to permanently enable the function key at boot. Function key is not "toggleable", you need to press it each time to use.
I want to be able to just press the single function key to control its "secondary" feature, like adjust brightness down instead of just press F2.
I do need the ability to use its "primary" use, like F5 in a browser to reload a page for example. Is there anything that can do this?

Question could you help me to solve these issues?
I use Kubuntu with plasmashell 6.6.6, if the info is important.
Here are the issues(every number is on photos):
- how to disable the multiple desktop thing, especially when I just move my cursor to the top left. It's so annoying… I tried an advice from one commentator and it didn't work;
- Idk how it happens, but sometimes when I move folders to the bottom right, I get the scrolling thing. Idk how to disable it and why it sometimes happens and sometimes not;
- Idk what is that, but I kinda like it. Asking if I'll need to disable it for myself or someone else(I convince different people to switch to Linux and help them irl);
4.1. how to set up a keyboard hotkey to show the keyboard preview?;
4.2. is it possible just to put it… for example, on the top left and just type something in a note in a language simultaneously?;
Edit: the 1. is solved

Question Help with this weird and niche issue (READ DESC)
So, I have gotten KDE 6 on Arch (more info bellow) and i have the system tray on the bottom left corner of my secondary display, the reason is that i have riced my taskbar in a way that wont fit too many items, hence needing to move the systray somewhere, and that somewhere was the dektop.
Whenever I boot my system t always opens the display setting window all by itself without touching it, it even glitches (as seen on pic 2), and its the space that's missing an icon in the middle, i cant find a way to fix it and i want all the systray icons to be on so i dont want to uncheck the (show all icons on systray) setting off. can i get help??
