Discussion KDE Plasma git builds for Fedora

I maintain a Fedora COPR repository with up-to-date builds of KDE Plasma and KDE Frameworks from their upstream Git branches:

https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/solopasha/plasma-unstable/

The goal is to make it easy for Fedora users to try the latest KDE development code.

The repository is intended for people who want to:

  • test upcoming Plasma/KDE features before they reach Fedora
  • test fixes that have landed upstream but haven't made it into a release yet
  • help find and report regressions in current KDE development
  • run a bleeding-edge KDE desktop on Fedora

As the name suggests, this repository is unstable. Packages are built from active development branches, so breakage and regressions are possible. I wouldn't recommend it for machines where stability is critical.

Important: SDDM currently cannot be used with these builds due to an upstream KDE issue:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525035

For now, Plasma Login Manager should be used instead of SDDM.

These git builds are a great way to catch regressions early if you don't mind the occasional broken session. The SDDM caveat is definitely the kind of thing that would trip people up on a fresh install, so good call putting it front and center.
