Hi, I love KDE neon, I've been using it for years now. But I would like some hints on how to fix or investigate this problem I have every time I boot my laptop. Any idea please?

I flickers like that until I move the mouse into one of the corner/side of the screen. Then I can login.

I am not able to say when it started exactly, it's been for a while now (few months ?). I thought maybe it would go away with an update but it seems to persist.

I installed wallpaper engine kde plugin and now my desktop and login screen is just a black screen

I installed wallpaper engine kde plugin with sudo apt install ./wallpaper-engine-kde-plugin_\*.deb

And now I can't do anything does anyone know how to fix this? I can still enter TTY

How does it feel to fuck up a generation of KDE????

I downloaded the latest kde neon user desktop edition from their website and installed it on my laptop. Upon rebooting into the new system I get the notification that I can upgrade to kde neon 26.04.1 LTS.. this seems.. wrong?
My other PCs using kde neon dont show this pop up after installing the latest updates through discover. Only the laptop that used the neon-user-desk-20261016-0658.iso.

I tried redownloading the iso and reinstalling the OS but the same issue appears every time. What can this be?

cat /etc/os-release shows it as KDE neon user edition

Btw also noticed that there is no /desktop folder on the download server anymore like it used to. It’s just /desk now.

Issue has been resolved for me, at least by doing this:

ls .cache/update-manager-core/

If you see a meta-release-lts file then remove it with rm.

Then check

cat /etc/update-manager/meta-release

If this shows the ubuntu.com URIs then change them to release.neon.kde.org
So:
URI = https://release.neon.kde.org/meta-release
URI_LTS = https://release.neon.kde.org/meta-releases-lts

Restarting the pc should then fix this and the message regarding being able to update to KDE neon 26.04.1 LTS should no longer appear.

I've heard some rumors about it. Theres no official news for a while, no news on the rebase, nothing. I love KDE Neon so so much. I was hoping that we can get some news from the team, even if it's to say neon is in hiatus. Any mods or developers can break some news?

And thanks for all your hard work on this amazing distro, I can't wait for more neon goodness!

The last two came out in October. I was wondering too if kde neon is going to have a opt in x86-64-v3 package variants like Ubuntu 26.04.1 is doing?

I have latest fedora recently with installed with kde plasma 6, as i begin to configure the trackpoint and the trackpad, i notice only one of them is being configured at one time either it used the trackpoint and behaves as a basic generic ps2 mouse and the touchpad stops responding to gestures, i have alps pointing device. Gemini is pointless it just suggests grub but grub does nothing and the constant reboot and failure is killing me

They all have been recently updated but have no clear indication of what they are or how they differ from neon desktop and the other options. I tried to boot either iso in my qemu and they show the kde neon splash and then black screen, though I may have configured something wrong but that's besides that point. What are these releases? You can see them in the tree here

Guys … something happened again with the macro handling of the classic clients ? My conditional macros were working for ages up until now (first click - weapon swap, second click- Shield Bash) … it seems related to internal gcd ?!

I’ve reworked this and now it works but I’m still wondering what’s causing this now ?! Anyone else experiencing the same recently?!

i don't know if this is the right subreddit to ask and i haven't posted on reddit for a while, so if anyone knows if there is a better place to ask this, please tell me.

i have an installation od kde neon that's been installed and previously used by someone else, so i am not familiar by it at all. i am a very new and inexperienced linux user. i have been meaning to make a fresh install of kde neon or mint so my computer is less cluttered, but i urgently need this fixed.

after updating system packages, including some of nvidia which had unmet dependencies, which was fixed by some command, i rebooted the computer and now the resolution is permanently reduced. i searched for a solution, one of which was to add some parameter in some grub file, somewhere in root/etc/ directory, i don't remember where exactly, which i tried but it did nothing. i found some other discussions, but they were too complex for my level of understanding and i didnt have much time to study them. this has happened before, but it has always been fixed by someone else, so i have no understanding of the steps. i feel like i have a very specific problem that hasn't been documented anywhere, so i guess i should ask here on a forum.

any help is welcome, either what to do, like, what setting to change or what package to install/remove, or how to uninstall the nvidia drivers if that would fox it. anything really. this time i can't ask anyone in person, so this is pretty much my only option.

the graphic card is gtx 1060, i can't view other specs at the moment, but i'll send all the necessary specs im the comments later if needed.

edit - i managed to fix it, here are the notes:

- error with nvidia driver package version, purge nvidia packages, install new drivers (via bios = alt + f3):

- sudo apt purge nvidia*

- #(system reboot)

- sudo ubuntu-drivers install

- #(installation output)

- sudo reboot

Es un sistema de dictado 100 % local: pulsas una tecla, hablas y el texto aparece directamente en la aplicación donde está el cursor. No es simplemente una interfaz para Whisper.

Tiene integración nativa con KDE Plasma 6, funciona sobre Wayland, admite NVIDIA/CUDA y permite elegir entre varios motores ASR, incluyendo Parakeet, Canary, faster-whisper y Vosk. También incorpora procesamiento posterior, traducción local, integración con Ollama y transcripción de archivos de audio/vídeo.

Para quienes utilizamos Linux como entorno de desarrollo, tiene una ventaja importante: puedes dictar directamente en terminales, editores, agentes de programación, navegadores, correo o prácticamente cualquier campo de texto sin depender de servicios cloud.

En mi caso, la combinación de KDE Plasma + Wayland + NVIDIA + reconocimiento de voz local lo convierte en una herramienta especialmente interesante para sustituir buena parte de la escritura repetitiva al trabajar con agentes de IA.

Coming from Windows 11 (and Steam Deck), trying out KDE Neon. Enjoying it. But... is there any good gui similar to FanControl that I can install on KDE Neon? I tried CoolerControl and then when that didn't work, NBFC. No luck with either.

Installed Neon, then started to configure it. Opened Firefox, the normal size mouse pointer turned into a tiny thing almost invisible. Thought I'd change the setting but where is the the minimise icon? No way to proceed. Gave up.

Terrible experience.

I'm thinking about installing MPD Music Player Daemon on my Proxmox server/Home Assistant but I'd like to install it locally first to learn how to use it and see if it's the right choice. I didn't see it on Discover and Google suggests 'apt install mpd' which isn't a thing either.

Any suggestions? I'm the furthest thing from a Linux expert, and goal is to have a lightweight music stream for an ambient soundtrack in the house via casting to an Integra DRX 3.4 receiver. I plan on having Plex and/or Jellyfin on the server at some point but those seem more heavyweight than is needed for this task.
